    I'm a grown man sitting here with tears streaming down my face. I remember when Terrie's commercials first started airing. As a non-smoker I always found them chilling and full of emotional impact. I found myself grateful that this woman would put her mistakes, and her disease, on naked display for the good of others. I am sorry to see her life ended with such pain, but I hope her message continues to live on.

      I've never smoked. Dad did. He was like Terri. He lingered in his last stages like Terri, but his lasted three years. I've got lungs like a 12 year old. Never smoked. Never will. Those who have, there's lots of programs by the County office where you live, paid, for by the smoking companies. They even give you a person to get you through the ordeal 24/7. Just give it a try. Don't suffer like Terri. Or like my poor dad:(

      Around The World II yes, She started to smoke herself, but on the other hand everybody do errors and we learn from our and the others' errors... Terrie learned the lesson too late, She Just wanted to Be cool in school and then She never stopped because she just cannot.. We can't blame her, right?

      Music Basement most people deserve to die due to how stupid they are for smoking but Terrie isn't one of them. She had so many regrets and put herself out there to try to get people to quit. That, in my eyes, deserves to live if anything.

    I remember Terri's previous commercial. I was moved by her confidence in front of the camera sharing her story. And her saying her grandchildren never heard her per cancerous voice. I applaud her desire to reprise her life by sharing herself in her last days.
    Me? I never picked up the habit and am grateful. If you don't smoke, don't start.

    Thank you, Terri. My grandma died from bladder cancer caused by smoking at 80. My uncle died at 69 from lung cancer related to smoking...as did his brother and sister, at 45 and 43, respectively. It’s a wicked addiction. Hopefully people in my generation listen to this message.

    I actually tried smoking once, but it mad me dizzy and it made me vomit. I never wanted to smoke again after that. I even asked myself, "How do people get used to this stuff?" It's same thing with me and beer/alcohol. I didn't like it and wondered how people get used to it, so I don't drink, either.
    Terrie Hall, the poor woman. She used to look so beautiful. As a young woman, she looked kind of like Beverly D'Angelo and look what smoking did to her appearance. At least she died while doing some good for the world. Being an example of what constant smoking can do to you. Well, she is survived by her daughter and grandkids.
    In fact, one reason why you see people who are so thin is because of getting a snack, they often have a cigarette, instead. My dad started smoking when he was a teenager but I think about a decade ago, he finally stopped. He's put on a little weight because he eats more but he hasn't smoked since. It's better to gain weight by eating a little more than to lose weight by smoking.

    *My cousin's parents heavily smoke. I keep telling them to stop smoking. I show them ads, I tell them facts, but they just keep smoking. "I quit when I feel like it", they say.*
    *I go to a school with mentally ill students (I'm not one of them. I'm just here to learn). Most of them claim to grow up in a "hood" and they awfully smell like smoke. Some bring cigs to school and smoke in front of the teacher. I try to tell them the dangers of smoking, and so did my teachers, but not their parents.*
    *If you think smoking is cool, it's sexy, it's neat, it really isn't. Kill smoking before it kills you.*

    If smoking cigarettes is this bad, why is it so heavily promoted in Hollywood movies and why are tobacco products still legal in the US? There are many other products less risky, some with 0% known mortality rates for continued use by adults, yet they are not only illegal and banned for use, but filling the US prison system with users of them. Are the people at the CDC for real? YES? Then where are your priorities? Great video, great tool to help kids never start smoking, but until tobacco products are summarily banned, and known safer alternatives are allowed by law on a nation-wide basis, millions more like this deplorable victim of tobacco will fill hospital rooms, hospice care and graveyards, not because of what they did to themselves, but because of the CDC/FDA/ATF's apathy, gross neglect and willful ignorance to the facts.

    • @illusionsinboundtheavidvid9689

      I agree. The government should close down tobacco companies. My suggested law:

      After Terrie's first ad, hundred thousands of American smokers quitted.

    My father passed away just a week ago and he used to smoke! When he got sick, he lost his appetite, a lot of weight, he lost his voice and his ability to stand. His cancer spreaded through his lungs, back, legs and brain! He was in A LOT of pain. They admitted him to the hospital and they had to put a feeding tube through his nose. The cancer was so advanced, there was not much they could do, so they put him on hospice two weeks later where he died the day after! DON"T SMOKE! If you don't smoke, DON"T START! If you do smoke, QUIT! or at least try!

    It's impossible to inform consumers who don't care. My dad knows all the dangers of smoking, but still smokes because he enjoys it.
    These warning campaigns do no work, as studies have proven. Instead of being a culture which rewards individual responsibility and forces people to think longitudinally, we have one which relies on the gov't to educate us and allows to to pretend to be victims.
    I don't smoke. But if I did, 2nd hand smoke would be more safe for my kids than driving them to and from school everyday in an automobile and more safe than having a swimming pool on my property.
    How soon until the CDC disables comments?

    • @CrimsonGenious
      @CrimsonGenious 10 лет назад +2

      The campaign is for teens and primarily to prevent teens from starting

    • @matthewrichardson828
      @matthewrichardson828 9 лет назад

      Derek Uzoh Studies into the effectiveness of graphic warning labels on cigarettes concluded that teens barely acknowledged the labels. In other countries these graphic labels showed morbid pictures of deceased lungs, skulls and cross-bones, etc. -all not effective.
      I agree that the government has a proper role in informing the public. The irony today is that the government is actually giving smokers healthcare subsidies, making it easier for them to afford the monetary cost of smoking and the adverse affects that smoking has on one's health. These smokers would otherwise [easily] be able to afford a healthcare insurance premium if not for said monetary and health costs associated with smoking.
      At what point are citizens just children of the state?

      Thank you for your question. We have a number of commercials featuring Terrie. In this particular advertisement, Terrie is not shown speaking. Instead, we use her voice over the images as a narrator. In several of the other Tips ads in which Terrie is featured, she is talking directly to the camera and it does show her speaking. She is able to do so with the help of the hands-free device in her trachea.

    The thing is that unfortunately, ads like this don't reach people that don't care. Of course, it scares a few people into not doing it, but mostly people who haven't started.
    That's the thing with addictions. You can know it's harmful, but with the addiction, it's difficult to deal with the mental and physical drawbacks of attempting to quit an addiction. Especially hard if smoking is some sort of coping strategy, albeit an unhealthy one.
    But while I lack some belief in the ad distributors, I do feel empathy and a bit of pride for those within the ads, as they truly want others to not have to go through the same pain and want to do something to help others.

    My nona saw this commercial a couple minutes ago and I said "does this make u realize what's happening to u when u smoke" and she said she doesn't care. It breaks my heart to see my nona be addicted to smoking after aches worked with cancer patients for many years.. She tried but stopped trying.. She never kept trying to stop... She just wanted a cigarette..

    People like her scare me imagine a person who came into your place or walked in front of you to ask a question and that person smoked so much that needed surgery and can't speak anymore that really makes me scared, saddened, depressed, and nightmares. I really feel bad for little old Terrie ;-;

    The first day I tried smoking was the last day. I tried it at 18. when I was finished with just one cigarette, my blood pressure was high, I couldn't breathe right, and the nicotine made me vomit. i don't know how anyone could pick up such a habit.

    wow I wish we had adverts like this in the UK, I'm the same age as Terrie this year and like an idiot I too started smoking because most of my school friends did,I was 15 back in 1977,we weren't as educated to the possible affects and outcomes of smoking back then,but since losing my Sister last year and nearly losing my Brother to lung cancer I stopped smoking in January and I haven't touched a cigarette since,I've tried loads of times to give up and like Terrie says keep trying as one time you will do it. For those of you lucky enough never fell to peer pressure to try it all I can say is count your lucky stars as I wish I'd never had my first as that is all it takes sometimes,that's how addictive the drug is. Good luck to all those who have given up and in the process of trying to give up.

    Some of the most hilarious commercials to exist this year. This one, the guy who loses his teeth and the woman who smoked when she was pregnant are my favorite. Those are a riot and LULZY! xD
