Grayson Smith Doubt that we'd ever do it for movies that aren't trash. We really hate talking during movies and we struggle to even provide any commentary in our trailer reactions until after, so if we did it it would just end up being us sitting there quietly for the entire runtime. We'd much rather be doing a video essay each per month, but we just dont have time between all the rest. That being said, we've wanted to do commentaries on The Cat In The Hat and The Flinstones 2 for ages, so as soon as we can line it up we will be doing those 👍
That makes sense. I was just watching Pan's Labyrinth the other day and wishing I could quasi-watch it with you guys. Not only that, I think it would be great film education for us. Video essays seem like a good middle ground though. Look forward to seeing more of those in the future! And yes, please do one of Cat in the Hat :) :)
When I saw the trailer I burst into tears, when I was reading GDT's speech from festival I teared up. I'm watching your review and weeping. I'm gonna be a mess at the premiere, no make up for me that evening. Can't wait for it) Thank you!
Love hearing you guys talk about film. It's clear you're both so passionate about it and it makes you both a joy to watch. This film has been on my radar for so long now. So happy to hear how it turned out.
Saw the film last night in LA screening Q&A with Del Torro, Octavia, and Doug. LOVED the film! BEST PICTURE, BEST DIRECTOR, BEST ACTRESS, BEST ACTOR, AND BEST EVERYTHING!!!
Thanks for the review! I'm excited! I'm seeing this at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 12th! All 4 public screenings of it are at one of the theatres they filmed in for the movie called The Elgin Theatre, which there's a blip of in the trailer.
I had watched this review right before I saw that Call Me By Your Name was playing at the Hamptons Film Festival. I landed some tickets and your review convinced me to get tickets to The Shape of Water as well. Pan's Labyrinth is one of my favorites and this was such a great pick. Thanks for the review guys, I thoroughly enjoyed it and you're beginning to make me fall back in love with cinema. Been to the movies maybe 3 times in the past couple years and all of a sudden I'm driving 6 hours to go to a film festival. Thanks again for your dedicated work!
I can't WAIT to see this movie.....this trailer looks THE BOMB. If Sally Hawkins doesn't win the Oscar for Best Actress, I'm gonna RIOT at the Academy, and probably get myself arrested LOL
What the hell I didn't even know Guillermo del Toro had a new film coming out, and I love his work. Damn how did I miss this? Glad to hear it though, even more glad to hear it's great!
Your energies and enthusiasm is beyond infectious! I am a recent watcher of your videos, but wow your love of all things film and television is great! keep it guys! Literally I wanna be friends with you hahaha!
Fantasy and reality = Magical Realism. A genre inherent to Latin America, where we need to dream beyond our reality to cope with our way of life. Read Gabriel García Márquez's work, the MASTER of Magical Realism. Visit any country in Latin America and understand our surreality. Maestro del Toro is cinema's Gabriel García Márquez, and I'm damn proud of him.
Wonderful review! del Toro is my favorite filmmaker. Your passion for film reminds me of his. I hope you guys get to visit his Bleak House one day. Good luck!
I know you both really loved 'A Ghost Story', and mentioned it will be hard to top that film. Well, from what I've heard so far regarding 'The Shape of Water', and more specifically after watching this review, where would you say it ranks of the movies you've seen thus far in 2017? Also, groovy review! This right here is my third most anticipated film after 1. Call Me By Your Name and 2. (Alex Garland's) 'Annihilation'. It is one to be damned excited for!
Gotcha. I will be kept in utter suspense until the moment your Best of 2017 list hits. Thank ya kindly for your reply --You guys are the only movie reviewers on YT I've come across that show a true, deep passion for film/television. Keep on being groovy!
I'm so glad to hear you guys enjoyed it so much! I could not possibly be more excited for this film. I absolutely feel like it's going to be one of my new favorites.
great... a coelacanth takes acting lessons and becomes a box office smash. I`d like to dine with del Toro... but I don`t think he needs any extra nourishment
Breaking Banter (hey you actually replied to me, this so awesome) could be but we’ll see maybe when awards season properly starts it’s Chances will increase. But I’m convinced Nolan is a lock for Dunkirk
+The PNT Tv Network So... how much of the film have you seen? Considering it has 100% on RT and 97 on Metacritic right now, I'd say this review is pretty accurate 😊
I haven't seen it, that's why I watched your review?! But I know from the trailer reaction, how much you love del Toro's work. So I legit wondered. I will obviously be watching it because I like Sally Hawkins and Octavia Spencer's work but seeing you called Pan's Labyrinth perfect...had me pause. I liked it for sure but perfect, not in opinion. For sure, make-up, cinematography, I know it's going to be a beautiful film. And as far as the reviews, isn't Venice the FIRST place it has been shown? Has the public seen it?
+The PNT Tv Network Del Toro got a standing ovation in the conference afterwards and people applauded for ages after the screening, which included about 40% general public. On all accounts, the film is adored.
I am so excited for this film. But is there anything that would make it uncomfortable for a pair of friends going to it? Like sexual? I know that's weird to ask.
So I mean this in not a rude way but, you guys use a lot of hyperbole and give many films perfect scores like Dunkirk (which lets be real is not a PERFECT film), so I don't really know if this is actually going to be that good because you guys are too liberal with perfect scores. If you give too many films perfect 10s your reviews are meaningless. Definitionally you should at most only give one film a year 2 tens so we can gauge it in comparisons to other films from that given year.
+Alchemist1330 It has perfect scores from most other reviewers. We're heavily considering dropping scores altogether because putting a number on a movie is gradually becoming a more and more irrational concept. Even then, you have to rememeber that us giving a 10 means that the film achieved it's maximum potential. Not only does a 10/10 film not put a foot wrong for us, we also cannot see it being better than it was in any possible way. It's probably a good time to start preparing for 2-3 more 10s before the year is up at this rate.
Okay well I don't want to tell you how to do your show, so if this system works for you you two should keep on doing things as you are. However, just as friendly advice, for me the best reviews on RUclips are given by "What the Flick" because they may praise a film up and down yet only give it an 8 or a 7, because for a film to honestly receive a 9 or a 10 is something truly special, in the 99th percentile of films. Maybe it comes down to standards (sorry if this sounds rude) but I entrust a reviewer to have restraint and have seen a large enough of a pallet of films that they can have enough nuance to understand there is a difference between something that very good and something that is PERFECT. As viewers we entrust to you to be better than a random opinion, therefore you should be extremely cautious to claim a film is perfect, because if we the viewer can see that a film in question is exceptional but has objective flaws (yes art is subject yet has objective qualities), we are left in a position that leads us to believe that our ability to evaluate film is more developed and accurate than yours and therefore they is no need to view your content. I say this with the utmost respect, because it seems like you two are really trying very hard to start a successful channel. In the end you are giving opinions so they can be what you want, but as reviewers they should appear to us well founded and rational. Deeming 4 films thus far this year as perfect is hard to rationally justify.
+Alchemist1330 With Baby Driver, we didn't allow any swing room for subjective enjoyment, so it would probably come out around a 9.6 now. The other 3 however are truly films that deserve 10/10 (A Ghost Story, Dunkirk & The Shape Of Water). These are all maximum cinematic experiences that took it to the next level in every single aspect and we need to celebrate them for that. They're all 10/10 in different ways too, so you need to rememeber that. A 10 doesn't necessarily mean a movie is perfect, but if a film ends up on your Top 50 list straight away, you know that it is seriously special. Anyway, respect and appreciate your feedback bit we cant please everyone. We're just being honest and true to ourselves and our love for film 😊
This movie sucked. I didn’t like it and neither did the people J wen with. It’s a beautiful movie but the movie is just weird with a predictable ending. It’s basically promotes beastiality. It’s just weird and not really enjoyable.
Doug Jones deserves a mention too! He is acting behind latex and is technically the leading man
You lucky bastards.
Hey, have you considered doing audio commentaries of movies? I would love to watch Pan's Labyrinth with your live thoughts.
hell yeh!
Pan's Labyrinth with their audio commentary is a great idea!
Grayson Smith Doubt that we'd ever do it for movies that aren't trash. We really hate talking during movies and we struggle to even provide any commentary in our trailer reactions until after, so if we did it it would just end up being us sitting there quietly for the entire runtime.

Zarina make sure to hydrate with water during the movie!
I will, thanks))))
Zarina Just wait till you see the film 😂
I'm sad because I feel like so many people are gonna not recognize Doug Jones as a part of the main cast.
Love hearing you guys talk about film. It's clear you're both so passionate about it and it makes you both a joy to watch. This film has been on my radar for so long now. So happy to hear how it turned out.
Being a movie junkie myself, I loved watching you guys review this film. Thank you!
You never mentioned Doug Jones' performance!
watching this at TIFF! even more excited after watching your review guys!
Hey man, you're gonna be at TIFF ? Would love to meet you, been a fan of your channel for quite a while now.
Saw the film last night in LA screening Q&A with Del Torro, Octavia, and Doug. LOVED the film! BEST PICTURE, BEST DIRECTOR, BEST ACTRESS, BEST ACTOR, AND BEST EVERYTHING!!!

Not really surprised that this film is excellent. When you have a talent like Guillermo Del Toro, the film is bound to be immaculate.
I had watched this review right before I saw that Call Me By Your Name was playing at the Hamptons Film Festival. You guys already have seen "The Shape of Water"?! 😱 Another one of my most anticipated movies of the year 😍
The Devil's Backbone is also amazing.
I think A Cure for Wellnes has one oof the best cinematography of 21st century
I still haven't seen Blade Runner 2049. neither you so i can't say
MarinoZajmi Blade Runner 2049 is my best of the year and the cinematography is AMAZING!
I can't WAIT to see this movie.....this trailer looks THE BOMB. If Sally Hawkins doesn't win the Oscar for Best Actress, I'm gonna RIOT at the Academy, and probably get myself arrested LOL
Thanks guys- very informative. Your excitement is contagious.
What the hell I didn't even know Guillermo del Toro had a new film coming out, and I love his work. Damn how did I miss this? Glad to hear it though, even more glad to hear it's great!
Poor marketing of a great film is the best way to do it 8)
that is correct, the opposite would be Suicide Squad
Aye XD
Ocram Immorto Although this film needed poor marketing because there are a lot of spoilers they could have revealed
Aye. Which they, have admittedly been doing in each new trailer XD
So good to hear this. Espeically from you guys! Del Toro is a genius.
this is my new favorite youtube channel
The hype is real man.
cheers from Méxcio, love your channel!
Your energies and enthusiasm is beyond infectious! I am a recent watcher of your videos, but wow your love of all things film and television is great! keep it guys! Literally I wanna be friends with you hahaha!
thanks guys! Will be watching this.
But yall! What about doug? :( he deserves love too
+Delilah Garnica He's given a creature performance on par with Serkis' Caesar. He's incredible
I look forward to watching this film. Unfortunately, it doesn't come out in cinemas till January 2018.

Sucks that I have to wait until this comes to Digital or Blu-ray. Cause it’s not in theaters near me! 😔
I'm sad just thinking about what Silent Hills could have been...
I'M SO READY!!!!!
I had already been excited for this movie... now I'm literally dying to see it!

Don't want to give away ranking because of our Best Of The Year list, but TSOW is definitely top 3 of the year at this stage.
Gotcha. I will be kept in utter suspense until the moment your Best of 2017 list hits. Thank ya kindly for your reply --You guys are the only movie reviewers on YT I've come across that show a true, deep passion for film/television. Keep on being groovy!
+Kyle Vesey Thanks! We do our best 😊
Where the hell is mention of Doug Jones' performance???
I'm so glad to hear you guys enjoyed it so much! I could not possibly be more excited for this film. I absolutely feel like it's going to be one of my new favorites.
Love your review guys ❤
Goodness... i Love the love You've Got for great Cinema!!! Haven't seen the movie yet, but damn am i excited after watching your review !
actually he has 3 masterpieces already, Cronos, Devil's Backbone and Pan's.
didn't even talk about doug jones O_o
+Widdo Monki You just gotta expect that he's excellent. It's Doug Jones after all...
Well now you have me excited...i would have taken it being even half as good as Pan's but to hear it comes close to its greatness is very exciting
I would add The Devil's Backbone to the list of masterpieces he's made.
What are the other movies you guys gave a 10?
Michael Pallada Dunkirk, A Ghost Story & Baby Driver.
How do you watch movies do early?
+Sainterman We were at the Venice Film Festival, but we're certified press back in Australia so we get media & premiere invites
Please give some credit to the DP, Dan Lausten, and his team for their hard work in creating the visuals you praise.
possible best director nomination?
+manendraviper Easily
I love GDT. Been my favorite director since I saw blade II ironically. Love all his films, and I hope he wins this year. He's earned it.
Russell Liston He'll have to beat Nolan
Do you guys watch/follow Collider Video?
i knew this would happen!!! can't wait!!!
Can't wait to see the next Del Toro masterpiece.
I love your review. Its awesome.
Sally seemed Oscar-worthy. Idk. The trailer... She looks impeccable.
Thank you for this review. I usually never bother to watch Oscar-nominated movies but your review convinced me otherwise. This movie was stunning!
I literally cant wait for this movie!
Can't wait... can't wait...
Just came out of this and I pretty much agree. I think it’s just perfect
great... a coelacanth takes acting lessons and becomes a box office smash. I`d like to dine with del Toro... but I don`t think he needs any extra nourishment
Easily my favorite movie in awhile. I will get the DVD. Totally under rated movie, which sucks.
I saw Dunkirk first little noice in the beginning I knew it's the best movie of 2017
OK which win Oscar 2018 the shape of water or dunkrik
Kathiravan Ganesh from what I’ve seen I’d say Dunkirk for directing and Shape of Water for Screenplay
+Inception Report Doubt Three Billboards will be beaten for best original screenplay at this stage
Breaking Banter (hey you actually replied to me, this so awesome) could be but we’ll see maybe when awards season properly starts it’s Chances will increase. But I’m convinced Nolan is a lock for Dunkirk
+Inception Report Haha all good! If Nolan doesn't win we are inciting a riot. You can join if you want 👍
Inception Report thanks for the information
So is this better than A Ghost Story? 👻
Yes.
Really had good hopes for this movie I'm open to anything but the fish sex killed it for me
You guys are nice guys 😊
So this is like Pan's Labyrinth and then some 8)
+Ocram Immorto Very similar in ways, almost as good too
I've heard some people claim it's del Toro's best to date.
+Ocram Immorto Guess it is for some people.
So...how much of this review is fanboying over Del Toro and how much is actually a true depiction of how the film really was?
+The PNT Tv Network So... how much of the film have you seen?
Considering it has 100% on RT and 97 on Metacritic right now, I'd say this review is pretty accurate 😊

no, it's THAT good.
you guys so lucky!!!
I am so jealous!!!
I feel like this movie is gonna make me sad I don't want to watch it nowww
Got me excited.....
loved it
❤❤❤
❤️
I am so excited for this film. But is there anything that would make it uncomfortable for a pair of friends going to it? Like sexual? I know that's weird to ask.
+Approximately 92 Sobbing Goats Probably, but its really sincere and beautiful and we watched it with another dude and it was fine
Breaking Banter awesome! Thank you so much for answering me!
Insecure much?
So did you get uncomfortable at some points? Going to see this movie soon, so I'd like to know too...
I loved this movie so much
very good film
💜 💜
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Well, shit lol

Do you think Mass Effect games handled human X xeno romance better?
They are GAY???
Terrible movie!
Too bad there is gay character in it. Not trolling, it's make me sad.
Shame.
+Ofer Mizrahi Thats utterly tragic that youd find this noteworthy in 2017. It's a thing, don't miss an incredible film because you don't like it
Breaking Banter Thank you for not blocking me
You need to open your mind and your heart. Otherwise, you're only limiting yourself.
