I am still surprised at how well this movie played out. Within the first five minutes I was just wanting it to end. Twenty minutes later I was hooked. George Michael's music is an important part, but the trailers do cram this down your throat as if you have to see it just for that. Loved your review. If I ever see Emilia in person I will mention how much I enjoyed this movie.
Here you go with another great and thoughtful review, thanks! I did see Last Christmas, so was just curious about your reaction. I had a similar one ... There was all the goofy, silly fun, and it was actually super-funny too (esp Michelle Yeoh and Emma Thompson). But it was Emilia Clarke who was the living-breathing "heart" of the story. Kate felt real, flawed, relate-able ... yeah, human. You're right about the powerful connection between Kate and Tom (Henry Golding was kind of a perfect fit, right?) And the writing just interwove that particular George Michael song "organically", it felt earned and honest in a way that turned out to be kind of genius. It had beautiful messages ... (Not going to lie, tears were shed.) It just is a lovely film, I'm so happy other people are letting it into their hearts too! cheers guys!
This movie is nothing new but it sure hit that bittersweet Christmas-y spot. I really enjoyed the cast and it left me with me that warm fuzzy feeling which is all I ask from a romcom.
Went to this movie with my wife and I was very pleased! It was a very sincere yet lovable christmas movie and it's almost like this movie was written just for Emilia (even though it wasn't).
Really enjoyed this film. The more times I watch the twist the more that it actually surprised me. Even though it's based off the song of the same name
I just saw Parasite and liked it, as I'm an arthouse film guy! But I saw this this evening and yes it's hokey! Sure it is cheesy. A Hallmark made for tv movie mixed with the Sixth Sense, Ghost but I enjoyed it! It's nice sometimes to not take yourself seriously. It's a fun date movie...
Thanks for the review, I would have seen it regardless as I love Emilia Clarke. She's adorable and lights up any room the second she shows up. So glad to see her play something closer to her actual personality and I hope this movie does really well.
I personally don't decorate for Christmas until after Thanksgiving, but let's be honest, it's just a meal. I don't have a problem with people who start celebrating earlier. I do however get a jumpstart on my Christmas shopping, music and movies in November, prior to Thanksgiving. With that being said, I don't feel that it was too much Christmas in early November. I loved all the glitz and glam they added. I thought that there was some breathtakingly beautiful scenes of London. All of the George Michael music was perfect! But then again, I am a fan. The movie did start out a bit slow, but soon drew me in. Emilia Clarke was adorable and gave a fantastic performance; as did Emma Thompson and Michelle Yeoh. I will say, I felt joy, I laughed, I cried. I loved it! Critics can be harsh. But it was a holiday romcom perfect for date night. My husband even enjoyed it!
Well you've convinced me, good to see! I wondered whether you would be reviewing upcoming TV shows like His Dark Materials or Witcher?Would love to see your opinions on them.
I doubt I'll be reviewing TV again, and definitely not episode by episode. I don't get to most shows until months after they air, and I probably won't be watching either of those. Sorry 😏
Looks good. I read a theory that Henry Golding is suppose to be a ghost and Emilia Clarke just made him up because of her condition. Without spoiling me is that true?. Loved Emilia since Me Before You.
I love Emilia Clarke and I would have suffered through a terrible movie for her but it sounds like this might be worth the watch which is encouraging. Emma Thompson is an incredible writer and comedian too so I'm sold.
Movie starts with the caption "Yugloslavia, 1999"..... Yugoslavia didn't even exist anymore in 1999
Yugoslavia existed till the end of 1999
I was surprised by how much I liked this movie. It made my heart very happy!
Shout out to my housemate, Alan, for the new channel theme music 🙏

You sold me, adding this to the google play list asap ;) A good Christmas movie can be a hard thing to find. Thanks for the review :)
Emma Thomson wrote the screenplay, as a dedication to George Michael and his music.
Really enjoyed this film.

great review, subbed!
Love the Arrested Development reference hahaha really excited for this film!
This looks like the kind of movie thats better watched in the comfort of your own home not in a movie theater.
The trailer looked terrible, but the movie is very good indeed - funny, sad, heart warming - loved it!

I was going to watch the movie regardless but with your comments I now know I'll enjoy it :)
You mean Dame Emma Thompson
Directed by Paul Feig?! Thanks for pointing that out, now I'll skip the movie
