As one of your gay fans, I love that you guys are so open to queer films - a testament to the power of cinema being able to immerse us in other people's lives and empathize with their stories and your unbridled enthusiasm and open-hearted, open-minded way of engaging with the artform. It's beautiful and inspiring. Also lovely to have Jay back. ❤️❤️❤️

Oh I just love it when you guys get so passionate about a film! I saw it a few weeks ago in a really small theater and it was absolutely enchanting and so representative of not only the universal human experience, but also very much of my own experience as a sapphic woman in a way no other film ever quite managed to -- I felt so seen. Keep up the great reviews of queer movies, it's so wonderful when people use their platform for that!

I saw a screener for this a few months ago and have been haunted by the memory of it ever since. Now it's playing in NY for a week and I'm heading back tomorrow for the third night in a row. This movie is absolutely remarkable. Absolutely breathtaking.

You guys said some really important things, so that I even think this is the best review of this film on youtube. I think this is not just the best film of 2019, it is even a milestone in many respects, which will be cited in film histories as example of really advanced cinematic work. Its an inteligent movie, so it will require intelligent audience, and not everybody will always click with it. However, people who know and understand arts, philosophy, poetry and politics will always understand why this film is groundbreaking. Thank you once again.

I believe the director and Adele Haenel were former lovers which may be a reason why the movie felt so intimate .

It makes you feel like you’re back in that time. The colors and lack of music except for three times where the music was from time. The expressions and dialogue or sometimes lack of dialogue is phenomenal. I was just hanging on every word and expression of these two characters. I was there…lol. I felt their pain; I felt the damn oppression. I was a physical wreck by the time this movie ended. Also, every shot is a beautiful painting. Well done by all. Bravo 👏!

saw this a day ago and yeah wholeheartedly agree
truly a tragic love story...i loved how sciamma was able to weave in the gothic as well...with a couple frames of someone in a white dress (that last one especially) that took me back
    and that ending my god

54 years old, I know what life and Love can do to a person and I realize that we learn this young as well. I dont know if this is the greatest film I have ever seem but no film has ever affected me this way or shown love and equality to me this way. Have we seen anything like this? There was even no score to tell you how to feel. It was them. Celine and these women created something so special that makes me feel so many things….along with the tears its a journey, as if we are Heloise at the concert every time. and then I watch again. More than love this film, and thank you for a mature caring appreciative review. Agree it is very difficult to describe. Thanks for posting.

I just discovered you with this review, and then discovered you have discontinued your site. I'm sad, but will go back and watch your other reviews, and hope you are still reading comments that come in belatedly, like mine. First, your review is hilarious, passionate, genuine, intelligent and moving! Like you, I was totally captivated by this movie, and days later, I'm still watching youtube clips because I don't want to let it go. But early on in your review, you said this is a "seminal work"...REALLY, guys?! Your word choice has to be the absolute best AND worst ever, and I know you said it innocently - but you really cracked me up. Thanks for a review almost as absorbing as the movie itself!

I was really looking forward to see this film, but I personally was disappointed. Yes I did like the performances of both Noemie and Adele, but as a film it did not feel 'intimate' but claustrophobic for me. The first half of the movie we see only 3 or 4 people , and then all of a sudden we got to "sing" with dozens of people from the village... the scene she was in that boat going to the island...just shot from inside the boat..the house they are in..just one shot from the outside. As a tour de force for the 2 actresses, yes I can see this is a well reviewed film, but on the whole I rate this rather 3 out of 5, rather then the masterpiece its supposed to be.
