Jimmy Chin is an absolute legend. Big respect.
Yeah what hes accomplished while also filming some of the best shots+documentarys is just mind blowing. Amazing climber, Amazing filmography , amazing human.
I'm on a Jimmy Chin Video Marathon. I didn't think the level of respect could go any higher when it was already at the top. How he's able to direct any fear and nervousness into excitement and passion is something I always try to do when I'm climbing or even entering into a job interview. lol I teared up a little during this video just imagining the 1% of his avalanche experience and happy/thankful he's still alive, well, and still passionate to continue his work. "It's not a sense of immortality, rather no sense of mortality." Beautifully put.
Yup, cant wait for his documentary of Alex Hollolds free solo of El Cap!!! Going to be absolutely wild.
@@skobird2732 It's beyond wild!!!!!!
Kiss kiss.
2 years later i have started the marathon too.
@@skobird2732 well.... You were sooo right..
I was fortunate enough to meet Jimmy once, up on the trail to Everest. What an amazing individual, how many people have walked away from an avalanche? Much happier to see him tell this story than to hear someone else telling it.
"It's not a sense of immortality, rather no sense of mortality" - mind blown
What's a mortality?
@@leveckfamily8841 immortal means that you cant die but mortality means that you are able to die
@@leveckfamily8841 mortality is death rate
Came here to say the same thing. He nailed it. The idea that young people have a "sense of immortality" never run true to me.
thats how i felt after having my kid..
Incredible story. I've been in the Tetons, and I've seen those conditions, and the chances of his surviving that avalanche are simply zero. That he did is a miracle.
You are a genuine testament of living life doing what you love. Not too many are fortunate to do that because they allow fear to control them.
Awesome comment!
You can hear the fear in his voice as he recalls the experience.
Seems like a nice genuine dude tbh :-) Glad he survived.
Jesus CHRIST Jimmy... So glad you're still here. Jeremy said to me, "Oh, yeah it was just a big wet slide Jimmy got caught in". I think he was downplaying it to protect everyone involved. Thanks for sharing the story, even if my comment here is 7 years after the fact.
and in the last as said that its not a sense of immortality .. its out of the universe ... just great.. love u chin... ..
I just love it when miracles happen!
its absolutely incredibly how he survived
A bit surprised why he and the others were not geared with air bag ruckshacks, they have been known to save lives in avalanches. Back country boarders and free skiers do use them quite often. He is so lucky to be alive but very nice that he is, seems like a very nice guy!!
How utterly amazing to even imagine what that experience would feel like to endure. It looked like you got into agreement (no choice no problem) with the situation, and that was the moment you gained control of your survival. So glad you survived the fall and now you are able to pass your experience of such a harrowing ordeal to us. whew!!
I like the part where he mentions he stops being scared of the situation when he is on top of the avalanche !!
5:40 perfectly well stated.. exactly !! I've definitely fallen victim to that thinking.
That's some close calls, this dude is the man
I am glad you make it out alive. We all have something to learn from this experience.
Listening to him i got goosebumps
😨😨😵
Dude just won an oscar
and his yappy wife ruined it with her acceptance speech...smh
@@Roosyer yeah it was quite odd. Maybe nerves or trying to be woke or something. It backfired
I’m half holding my breath this entire video
Respect for Jimmy Chin!
"I had several thousand pounds of snow crushing me. Then I got knocked down about 1000 feet. Then the avalanche stopped for 30 seconds so I popped open a beer."
Just a badass plain and simple !!
Thats crazy! He's lucky to be alive right now
This 11 years ago +, then the film on free solo. wow
He 🎿 down from the peak of Everest
He seems like a really cool guy
damn...nature can be so powerful
This guy at a dinner party is probably a blast
This story is insane I'm on the verge of buying touring skis and stories like that really make me second-guess myself.
Glad you survived the avalanche.
Praise God he survived!!!
It's not a sense of immortality, I always called it a sense of being indestructable, now at 81, I am so glad they did not test me an inch or two further.
That's a pretty heavy story jesus
great he survived. wouldnt like to go through what this poor guy went through
Love you Jimmy, elevated soul ! Divinities saved you to support your legacy of enabling higher transformative humanity, like Free Solo - congrats !!
Cool
glad you survived
Wish there was a bit of video
Americanism Not Globalism there is a bit of footage included in the film he made,
Called Meru. It’s shown and discussed about halfway through the movie.
Hold my beer
cool story
Run over by several Mack trucks. Wonders of the body and mind!!!
just great (Y)
Seemed like they cut him off at the very end
true could be
"It's not a sense of immortality, rather no sense of mortality"
金国威,出生明尼苏达州,父亲浙江温州人、母亲哈尔滨人, so proud of you, do you speek WenZhou dialect?
Him having long hair really has it’s perks for being in the wild.
Well done Jimmy just caught you video on getting caught in an avalanche you jammy git hope you bought a lottery ticket coz your winning it
@VitalitySole what?
2 wave hold down
Jimmy where was your Jet Force Avalanche Airbag Pack???
So was he wearing an air bag?
Was Jimmy Chin trapped in avalanche or was an avalanche trapped with Jimmy Chin?
@Aaaaarrrrrrggghhh
*shat*
@mannymaan Uh okay random
Don't breathe when there's snow in your mouth...Oh, and have an ortovox.
Impressiv... even more impressiv there is not a single picture of anything...
I would take a picture if i survived such a unbelievable thing... at least a crapy one with my smartphone.... especially if i´m a filmmaker and there are filmmaking friends arround me and i surrvived this deathbringing avalanche without a scratch...
There is indeed footage of this. It’s included in the movie, Meru. About halfway through the film.
not him, but his friends in this little "safe zone" could have shot something... or take a happy survival pic afterwards... i listened to a couple of people in a avalanche... they speak different...
it´s a random picture of a mountain... thats not footage.
@@tobi22285 What are you talking about the movie has footage of the snowboarders he was with talking about how they saw Jimmy get caught in the avalanche. And there's a video of Jimmy as he digs his way out of the bottom of the avalanche and the others who eventually find him at the bottom afterwards.
the anti chance,,,
@mannymaan I did and its BS
@Aaaaarrrrrrggghhh hahahahaha
Sounds like getting worked at Pipeline or Teaupo.
You have what it takes, for a really terrible funeral
Y
Jackie Chan! :D
I'd be thanking God after something like that.
i used to climb, then i took an arrow to the knee.
@mannymaan Plz Prove this god you talk of....A book? I can write write a book about fairy tales and tell my friends to spread rumours about me being an almighty being, so does that mean ill be God in 4012??
in most case Jimmy Chin were send to die by national Geographic.
I don't believe him
