    We use plastic covers over anything that touches the rim. If they used them no damage whould've been done.

    I have been to a tire shop yesterday to change tires, they have ruined the plasti dip on the edge for a solid 20 cm on the edge, I think they were just not careful enough, of course they said it was like that beforehand, but offered me to pay the repair

    You can buy a special tire change rim protector to prevent this type of damage. Nothing like this happened since I had mine for about 80 cents.

    Found this interesting as Ive been fitting tyres for 15 years, wondering if plasti dip would peel when the tyre came off.
    as for the lever bar cut a 3-4 inch section out of an old tyre sidewall and slide it under the machine head. the bar will land on the rubber not the wheel and it keeps the head a few extra mm away from the wheel.
    plastic heads are available also however they are pretty much in contact with the wheel so a good paint and lacquered wheel would be fine but would probably be worse for dipped wheels.

  • @nicke2307
    @nicke2307 7 лет назад +3

    He should've had a plastic covering on his bar. Also I use a machine with a nylon denouncing head. Less likely to marr rims especially expensive ones

    I knew this would happen!!!!!!i have dipped my wheels too and when it's time to change the tyres....i'm afraid that these scratches will be inevitable!!!!!the tyre seller said that there won't be any contact to the wheel........but what i saw is FULL CONTACT to the wheel!!!!!!!😥😩😫😫😢

    Just had mine changed and the plasti dip was torn to hell afterwards. Not that I care that much about having to redo it as I was thinking about a redo anyway. The annoying part was that no one at the shop (a main stream chain around here) said anything at all to me about it.

  • @cmawhz
    @cmawhz 10 лет назад

    It's not that they were careless using the pry bar, that's the only way it's done. It is nearly impossible to take a tire off without the pry bar touching the rim (and by nearly impossible, I mean I have never ever done it after changing thousands of tires).

    There's nothing wrong with the way this guy changed the tyre, I can't believe all the negative comments. People with all these fancy alloys need to get a grip and accept the odd scuff and scratch when replacing tyres is always going to happen. The owner is lucky the fitter used a rubber covered valve puller. I certainly wouldn't have bothered!

    after lifting the bead over the arm of the machine take the tyre lever out never spin the machine and let the tyre lever contact the wheel thats just stupidity you can take tyres off without damaging the plastic dip or vinyl wrap if i was your customer is of made you pay for the damage done

  • @sowajarek
    @sowajarek 7 лет назад +1

    2:23 you've used wrench to lift the tyre and in the process edge of the wheel got scraped! Funny thing is that same happen to me on my diamond cut wheels and tyre shop was liable to buy a new wheel - 960 euro :) I know this video is old but nothing has changed

    Yea that shit sucks, i bought some 20x9 chrome oem 2014 dodge rims with new good year tires for my 2005 ram, these rims were flawless no scratches or scuffs and i took 2 tires to get repaired and sure enough front rim got dent and back rim got scuffed, i was pissed, it took 4 years of these wheels looking new from the factory and some dumb ass messes them up 2 weeks after i bought them. Take your wheels to a shop that specializes in custom wheels.

    I work in a tire shop, I've done way past 1000 sets in the past few years and have done dipped wheels without any damage. However I got the chance to asked the customers why they chose dip and not paint, they said cuz it comes off easy. So what's the point of doing this whole job? Just paint.... And you won't have these stupid problems. Just paint man. You like your Beemer? Then prove it... You have no idea how much of a bitch this is for tire shops
