- This week I talked to Nick Nguyen, a member of VietFactCheck, a small project from Progressive Vietnamese American Organization (PIVOT) to help tackle the problem of fake news rampant in our Vietnamese-American community.

I’m 72 yo, came to the US in 1975. I have an American MD degree since 1976and held two unrelated Medical Specialties from the American Board of Medical Specialties ( The American Board of Emergency Medicine and the American Board of Addiction Medicine) I always consider myself a refugee from the Vietnamese Communists not an immigrant. I speak fluent , the so-called colonial Vietnamese, I speak English with some accent since I came here at age 27 but i definitely don’t read, listen to, dream in American English with an accent and definitely don’t have any language barrier to understand.

We need people speaking Vietnamese sharing facts rather than simply translated articles and subtitles. Many of our parents don't have literacy skills.

without Vietnamese subtitles, I think old-aged people and even young Vietnamese who are not good at English cannot understand what you discussed in the clip. May you at least write the links to the web site Viet Fact Check and the Interpreter below the clip so that people can read verified info?

My parents are being served some really far right-wing Vietnamese news so I've logged them out of RUclips and put in a new account so I can monitor the algorithm. I have to regularly tell YT not to recommend certain channels and I subscribe to channels like yours, and Viet Fact Check. Are there other people you'd recommend I follow to help balance some of the nonsense? It just has to be other Vietnamese speaking sources. I made it follow Phillip Le in NYC so they can see outside of their bubble in Oregon, and they're now following a vlogger in Africa.
