it took me like 2 weeks of constant playing to get a consistent positive KD. after a while though the game just turns into a meme, you find it harder and harder to try and instead just meme constantly because its so fucking hilarious. once you start to win 50% of the fights you're in, this game is great.
I can't relate too much because I've been playing since release, so I've never felt such a huge disparity in skill-gap.... However, as someone with 1850 hours on Mordhau I can wholeheartedly say that it's the funniest game I've ever played
@@big_narc It's the only game I've seen that is fucking ridiculous enough to have a shrek, pingu and michael jackson build fighting together in a 3v3. What in the actual fuck lol. Also saw someone with a chicken build pecking the ground...
i think something mordhau does well that alot of other games dont is that its just genuinely fun to play, I have 1k hours in and ive spent 500 of them just maul rdming and its such a fun, fluid game that nothing really beats it
Hey there! I'm a professional voice actor by trade, and one of the official voice actors for Mordhau (Cruel, Young, and the Tutorial) and I regularly play the game. Your review was spot on with how the game is, pros and cons. My personal opinion: I think that three major things are on my mind for this game's longevity and health. 1. The skill gap can be intimidating for new players, and the community is vibrant- but also there can be a good degree of toxicity at times. But there's also a lot of positivity in the community as well; and I think it boils down to this: People get better as you said often on duel servers, it is where boys/girls become men/women. It is the community that sharpens the blade of itself. So on the note of the tutorial I think something similar to what Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition did can be done here- have a panel of highly skilled players in conjunction with the developers make an advanced, "Art of War" type tutorial. You got your basic tutorial, and then you have the more advanced series. This would need to be carefully thought upon and time and love would need to go into it, but it would greatly improve the health of the community I think. Because while Age of Empires 2 is not a melee game, its competitive mentality is similar. 2. Add in a new game mode, specifically COOP missions. People love horde mode, but sometimes you want more than just whacking a stick at bots trying to chase you. The maps were also made with objectives in mind, and on the notion of maps this also segways into another semi-point I have: this will allow modders to make their own storylines and campaign missions if they'd like. Sort of like Warhammer Vermintide 1 and 2 or Left 4 Dead, coop styled missions with voiceovers (yes some self interest here but hey, can you blame me?) with each voice personality having their own quips, players go from different objectives on a map while the AI rushes out enemies at them with an AI director spawning different enemies. This could be a huge boost to gameplay because the modding community in Mordhau is quite talented. The devs could easily make their own missions with existing maps, and then modders could just expand on top of this and you'd have an insane amount of content that'd just continually be developed, and its a great way to have fun with friends by accomplishing missions together. 3. With longevity animations and balance tweaks are going to be necessary, and part of that is reliant on feedback. I think that the Mordhau team has despite their size, done a great job at communicating with the community. I see lots of the devs actively speaking to people- and keep in mind this is with all the shitposting and other meme filled lunacy that is constant in the community. But also longevity is more importantly: On the community's own initiative. And I think that right now that is being approached at a healthy level in the sense of engaging the creatives of Mordhau's aspiring film makers with the recent Mordhau Film Festival. With created content and possible user submission type stuff, Triternion can promote a healthy community for the game by encouraging and rewarding this, as it'll only grow the amount of folks playing the game and thus supporting them. I figured to post my thoughts here, and if you want to get in touch at all I can be contacted via my website at www.kimckenzie.com/ and I'm also on the official Mordhau Discord and some affiliate servers.
You have a good voice for narrating a review. I think you could have talked more about how the modding community has greatly increased the longevity of Mordhau since it's release. From the release of the Star Wars mod to the awesome Horde maps like Mines of Moria. Otherwise good review.
It is worth noting that, once you have the skill, any sort of janky animation attempt is immediately perceivable once it happens to you a few times. Investing your time into learning jank animations is not worth it unless you want to increase your level of fucking around.
You sound like MandaloreGaming. I've had the most amount of laughs with Mordhau, all the voice interactions and animations you can do are outstanding and virtually all of the voice actors are solid. The gore the combat the mods the feels of the game make it probably my number one in the genre, also customizing your character with both facial features and armor equipment are in depth and very satisfying.
would loved if you had mentioned the troll and rollplay aspects, & atleast 50% of the Players dont kill you instantly like in nearly each other game & mess around with you (with Emotes&Voice) . But anyway great Video bro!
Reminds me a lot of MandaloreGaming's Reviews. And that's a compliment! If you continue making videos like these, People will probably give you some shit for that. Honestly I'm just happy to see more similar quality content. Hope to see more from you!
A friend picked up mordhau for me a while back. I had no experience in any sort of melee style games, and I'm really bad at fighting games. Still, it looked fun. Now, every time I see gameplay I get reminded of the bitterness and utter hopelessness that is being new in this game is. Your comments on needing something for new players is completely justified. I don't think I'll ever return to this game, and if a lot of other newbies think like me, this game is gonna be on a diminishing population.
Best way to learn? Ranked 1v1 for s few days will catapult you towards the skill required required to hold your own in frontline. I just got back in again after quitting on 3 separate occasions after getting my shit kicked in. And oh boy did the 1v1 mode make a difference in my ability.
Less than 500 subs but great quality video, hope I can see this channel grow! RUclips algorithm picking out a jewel right here. I've got 500+ hours in Mordhau and I still feel really bad at it. I only play for the funny aspects of Mordhau - the voice lines, the ragdolls, the dwarves and the lutes. I wouldn't be still playing if we didn't get to fuck around in matches or custom servers, but this isn't really a negative for me.
This review was great. As far as the things that players have said needed to happen in this game. Some people think lutes should be removed from the game. Bards are the most important person on the battlefield. I'm surprised that anyone who says that think the game would be more enjoyable without certain weapons and tools. This game needs more love and I'm glad you made this review. Its one of my favorite game in the world even though I have a little bit over 249 hours into it. I don't have friends who play it, but I have a good time without any friends because I've made so many new ones in this game.
A really well done and accurate review, this is the video I’ll be sending anyone who wants to get into the game from now on Great job and all the best for your channels growth
I think the only way to make mord better for new players would be to make actual matchmaking that takes level into account. That said, its always nice to talk to new players and give them advice on how to improve :)
1300 hours. 202 lvl fully gotten on duel servers (100% of my playing time) Often i end up rounds with 30-0 KD and feel like a King of Battles, but sometimes i met naked guy with a pan and he destroys me smthg about 5-25 spamming laughs on me... Btw great quality of content, the info in review is 99% accurate. Good job man
On Russia there are one lobby at evening and 5-6 lobbies at evening. But at the end of the day, most of the players are the same. I have around 350 hours and fight guys every day, but its not a bad thing. We are saying "hello" and "good morning" to each other, discussing patch notes in chat and just having a good time
You should have made a whole social section, cause I have never ever seen such a good and actual funny community as mordhau. Everyone is just letting out their inner autism in it. Yes the public chats are toxic, but if you go on a private server the people are to 90% quite nice and even offer help and all that. They are really open and ready to help if needed. Besides that you also got the emotes and voices which make the game so much funnier if well timed. I also showed the game to a friend the last day and we had a whole public lobby sitting around a campfire doing emotes and interact each other (mostly friendly) and just dancing while a single bard was rocking. Nice review tho. The worst is just to get into the game. My mentioned friend doesnt have too much fun with the game because he only plays bows and doesnt feel like learning the game. So its not friendly to casuals
I use to do alot of Medieval reenactment(irl fighting with swords) and mordhau is basically the next best thing. even tho irl combat and in game is way different its still good fun

~1000 hours in Mordhau. I love this game so much. If you are new and getting stomped on; enjoy it and stick it out. Once you become competitive this is the most fun game you'll ever play.
I think they should add a mechanism to balance matches, it's not uncommon one team be chosen by all the high lvl and more experienced players (usually defenders) and the other team (usually red/attackers in invasion mode) only by noobs. Total massacre, guys with 5k hours in chivalry and 2k in mordhau just dragging and fragging the whole enemy team. I'm sure those players wouldn't be so dominant if the teams were balanced.
As a level 202 player I always though that new player experience was the worst in Mordhau. But i'm actually kind of surprised you enjoyed the game. Hope you enjoy Mordhau !
I've been playing it since launch, I played alot sorta seriously, with good builds etc, but then I just started having more fun dicking around. Now I have most of my fun in mordhau running around like an idiot having a good time. Dying in some stupid situation but managing to distract half their team as a naked guy with a tree branch is just as fun, if not more, as popping off, tbh my kd is horrible most games but I don't care lmao. The sound and feel with smacking your enemies or getting smacked is what makes this game replayable enough for me to open it up now and then and playing a few matches, sometimes much more.
1vx ing Mutiple people and winning is amazing . Ive close to 1000 hours now and I really love the game. Buy it guys. BE WARNED AAACCCHHHTTTUUNNNGGGG ! you willl WILLLL !!! get your shit pushed in.
I've been playing this since it first came out & the combat is so good. I got Chivalry II & couldn't get past the tutorial because the combat controls were so different & didn't feel as intuitive
Great review for me the janky animations wouldnt be a problem since that is atleast some kind of tech in game f.e if you look at game like Overwatch where they removed any unintentional tech it made a game completely boring since your skill was in developer hands because they controlled the numbers. Yea shitty servers are one thing in this game even though I dont see packet loss sings I see something worse like disconnects which are annoying and when devs fuck with servers they usually spawn a maintenance window. But for me the biggest gripe is not the maps or gamemodes are not fitting in my problem is spawn exploits and bizzare siege equipment placements on maps f.e on Camp enemies can waltz on behind blue spawn and shoot balista in spawns and if player is decent he will never die since 1vx is quite easy with passthrough and team hitstop. Other problem I found is the unbalance of game mode objectives some objectives are completely ridicoulous like push the payload cart and at the same time burn the books in library. All in all even with all these shortcomings for such small dev team they manage to do wonders and the game is awesome and even though it may not be a big hit like it used to I think population will not fizzle out completely due to great skill ceiling and game being unique.
Been playing since last September, love the game and some of the people on it, met some great guys and some absolutely disgusting one's but every game has a good/bad community, When I first started i was getting fisted by everyone but now I've played it whenever I can, I'm decent at 200 hours though 😂 just takes time to learn everything but for me what kept me playing was the core mechanics of ducking under attacks and finally popping someone's head. Thanks for reading my Ted talk
This is the first game in at least 10 years which i suck but i enjoy every minute. For every toxic player there is a kind pro that will teach you with train sword cause he see you suck. Big battles,in depth mechanics,a lot of custom weap and armor and a very funny roleplay.
It’s a good melee slasher, can be played seriously or not. Punishing at first but so rewarding. Devs are a bit slow with updates and balance is a bit of a questionable topic but overall it’s a good game. My most played on steam by far (700hrs+)
I bought the game last night and played it today and i sucked so much ass but it was still so fun people just mess around you see people chilling in the river and just random things all around
Drags should only stun, drain some stam and leave initiative for the attacker, that would be pretty much perfect system, as a veteran I am still bothered because drags causing damage just do not make any sense...
my only issue with mordhau is that their isnt enough content or communication between devs and the community, its mostly small content updates that people either dont care for, or just arent interested in, like releasing an arena map that most people didnt want or even play since a majority of players play frontline and invasion, the cosmetic additions are alright but I would prefer larger updates in longer intivals, than small ones that no one cares for, like an update that soley contains new maps / updated versions of old ones. Or a full on cosmetic update with lots of new armour and variations, maybe even body paint or themed stuff from different regions, idk just spitballing i guess.
Truth be told I clicked on your video while in search of a review of this game, and after watching it from beginning to end in its entirety, I walked away with the impression that it was from an established youtuber with no less than 100K subs. I was utterly shocked when I scrolled down and saw that you had only 915 as of the time of this writing. This isn't to take away anything from your channel. It's to add to it and say that it's highly underrated because this video is top tier-youtuber quality, so that's why I'm shocked. As someone that has spent a lot of time on youtube, trust me when I say that you have what it takes to make this channel big if you really want to. Maybe you don't, but if you do, you just need to upload way more. At least once per week minimum. Graham Stephan went over how he committed to uploading a few times per week no matter what while growing his channel, and now he's at 3M. To put it in perspective, he was at 300K when I subbed to his channel just under 2 years ago. If you do have an interest in growing this channel, I would seriously pursue it. P.S. - Should be 916 now. I like to help out ☺️
I appreciate it, truthfully I'm not 100% sure what my plans are for the channel either. It's very hard to commit to a hard schedule because of the other work I do, but the hope is to get things out as quickly as possible
Worth noting with the Janky animations, Mordhau is at least better than chiv in that you at least will be facing your opponent. Nobody will fight you by turning around and using overhead, but they will turn left and right to speed up or delay their attack.
I've played this game too much, I've played since the day one of the alpha release and about 1200 hours over the years that the alpha was out, You will get your shit pushed in for a very long time, but the team fighting is very skilled don't be fooled, it's like dueling but if there was 8 people dueling you at once, I would say there's much more skill in it. Mordhau like all melee slashers is a niche genre and will probably hover around 2k to 3k players for quite a few years from a dedicated community, so don't worry about buying it and it dying right away
Ahh my first copyright claim. Does this mean I've made it?

I've been playing it since launch, I played alot sorta seriously, with good builds etc, but then I just started having more fun dicking around. Now I have most of my fun in mordhau running around like an idiot having a good time. Dying in some stupid situation but managing to distract half their team as a naked guy with a tree branch is just as fun, if not more, as popping off, tbh my kd is horrible most games but I don't care lmao. The sound and feel with smacking your enemies or getting smacked is what makes this game replayable enough for me to open it up now and then and playing a few matches, sometimes much more.
Just playing some good old Empire Earth OSTs in intro. Noice
Great review man! Keep up the great work!
That empire Earth music tho, uuh, so nostalgic
I've never had so much fun getting absolutely destroyed! Great game and awesome voice emote things "Helloooo"
Been playing since last September, love the game and some of the people on it, met some great guys and some absolutely disgusting one's but every game has a good/bad community,
When I first started i was getting fisted by everyone but now I've played it whenever I can, I'm decent at 200 hours though 😂 just takes time to learn everything but for me what kept me playing was the core mechanics of ducking under attacks and finally popping someone's head. Thanks for reading my Ted talk
10/10 My favourite game by a long shot.
That EE music, nostalgic.
@Nickyeah what was that movie with the knights and the zweihanders?
yo what movie is this clip from at 5:19
10/10 game, would reccomend
That was great. Thank you! Mordhau Patchie is here lads!
Such a good vid man keep it up 👍🏻!!
This is the first game in at least 10 years which i suck but i enjoy every minute.
For every toxic player there is a kind pro that will teach you with train sword cause he see you suck.
Big battles,in depth mechanics,a lot of custom weap and armor and a very funny roleplay.
That duck at 6:27 was perfect mate
Kudos for the Empire Earth soundtrack :D
It’s a good melee slasher, can be played seriously or not. Punishing at first but so rewarding. Devs are a bit slow with updates and balance is a bit of a questionable topic but overall it’s a good game. My most played on steam by far (700hrs+)
I bought the game last night and played it today and i sucked so much ass but it was still so fun people just mess around you see people chilling in the river and just random things all around
Nice review man! Been playing this for ages and u were pretty spot on. Defs gonna sub after this one
Why the Chivalry gameplay on the lowest graphics settings though :-).
As an in game admin on the biggest EU Star Wars server I approve of this video
Jeez only 180 subs,welp u earned mine
Appreciate the support!
@@Nickyeah Come back to this channel and you're at 1k congrats brother u deserved it!
5:20 What is this epic fucking Montante duel from? please shed some light.
Maximilian, should be on Hulu
You deserve a larger audience fr
I'm suck at this game but can't stop playing it tho
I always love to cosplay as sherk or some wacky stuff
Drags should only stun, drain some stam and leave initiative for the attacker, that would be pretty much perfect system, as a veteran I am still bothered because drags causing damage just do not make any sense...
I could see this game randomly becoming popular later for no reason. It needs it's turn tho, it is fun. :)
The early days where the best
my only issue with mordhau is that their isnt enough content or communication between devs and the community, its mostly small content updates that people either dont care for, or just arent interested in, like releasing an arena map that most people didnt want or even play since a majority of players play frontline and invasion, the cosmetic additions are alright but I would prefer larger updates in longer intivals, than small ones that no one cares for, like an update that soley contains new maps / updated versions of old ones. Or a full on cosmetic update with lots of new armour and variations, maybe even body paint or themed stuff from different regions, idk just spitballing i guess.
0:25 hehe I am on your video :>
Haven't played in about a year but that star wars mod made me want to reinstall
i have close to 200 hours on this game now and 1:13 is one of the most accurate things ive heard about this game lmao
My brain instantly recognized Empire Earth music. :D
Just downloaded for 17€ a month ago, liking it a lot!
game is really good and all but its just the devs and the poor weapon balancing
but its also addicting
honestly though excellent video
clean review
Good luck playing Duel, everyone in that cursed category hasn't left the servers since they opened.
"You're gonna be bad for a long time..." I felt that...... Lol it's been over 300 hours and I'm only at level 65 🤦♂️
Worth noting with the Janky animations, Mordhau is at least better than chiv in that you at least will be facing your opponent.
Nobody will fight you by turning around and using overhead, but they will turn left and right to speed up or delay their attack.
why tf did i get emotional in the last part like it sums up all my hundreds of hours i played this game
Mordhau like all melee slashers is a niche genre and will probably hover around 2k to 3k players for quite a few years from a dedicated community, so don't worry about buying it and it dying right away
i loved it so i made a video on it, the player interactions are so great and hilarious, amazing gameplay aswell!
also i noticed when you get somewhere in horde where the ai can't, they'll keep throwing turds at you lmfao
lol the empire earth music was unexpected
