I remember the Dick Johnson crash during the Top Ten Shootout where he went off the track and into the trees in 1980. I really thought it was all over for him but he miraculously missed all the trees and he walked away.

It’s not Bathurst if “Skippy” doesn’t make an appearance

Remarkably, Weel's injuries were light - especially in comparison to those suffered by rival Paul Radisich in a one-car accident the following day - but he was kept in hospital for observation after being diagnosed with heavy bruising and at least one cracked rib.

Especially when you consider that Mark Porter died in a very similar crash in the 2nd tier series two years prior.

Racing and car crashes, like Glenn Fry said in one of his songs: "It's the nature of the business"...
Happy to see you react to more racing stuff...😁👍👍

When you said where did the kangaroo come from, well its like this unless there is a race meet the area is farm land and public road

I've stayed at a resort beside the course and it is swimming with roos. The only thing preventing more roo incidents is that the race is usually from late morning to 5pm or so and roos are generally most active at dawn and dusk. Also seen an echidna crossing mid race and there must be snakes from time to time.

Arguably Race Cam was first used for sports in the world for the Bathurst

That whole area is surrounded by farmland and a nature park extending behind the mountain. I used to go to University in Bathurst, Mt Pan is just up the road from campus. There’s kangaroos (and possums) everywhere around there

I come from Bathurst, the really nasty crashes were from the Easter motor bike races, especially the sidecars.

At 06:40 "...looked like a hundred miles an hour"... Cars actually touch 290 km before braking - 180 mph...!

You should check out some of the earlier circa '80s Bathurst 1000 crashes. *Warning there has been fatal smashes

I think a Bathurst passing without at least one spectacular fender-bender might well be one of the signs of the end times. They almost did it in 2017, though; made it all the way to lap 144 without incident!

First crash in the video: broken leg and wrist

And in some of the replays you can see the thigh bone shatter live... Also should take note several of the Marshalls were hurt when the shrapnel ripped through their barrier - one transported to Orange Base!

It the tires that make that noise and when that car rolled a lot of time he had a tire blow out just before he rolled but every time I see a big crash like that I gasp till this day some of the older cars you should check for crashes as well because they were the best ones some of them had to go to hospital that's in the older cars so check it out

There have been 17 deaths at Bathurst, dating back to 1949. The last one was in 2006. The cars are a lot safer nowadays.

You're thinking of the Mark Porter crash in 2006. The crash in this video is not the Porter crash, and both drivers were fine.

I remember one they never show in these videos, early to mid 70s before all the concrete and tyers. All there was standard roadside barriers (wooden posts & steel in a wavie M shape) a Ford Falcon rolled about 5 times cutting the car in half just behind the driver.
Think the reason it's not shown, it's doubtful the driver survived. I was watching the race live on TV will never forget it (absolutely terrafying)

Search Bill Brown 1971 Bathurst crash on RUclips, it does still appear in some videos. He walked away with no injuries.

That crash was Bill Brown in his 1971 XY GTHO Phase 111.
He did survive, his seat collapsed on him and he ended up laying flat in the car as it rolled.
