That would actually make a lot of sense for space travel, just take the lighter parts kits and a printer on the ship and print all the weapons at the destination to save on weight
0:12 to 0:14 I really love how this gun comes apart for maintenance...err painting err whatever RUclips is fine with it being called The orca is like if you described someone to make a Space AR-15, and told them it had to come apart in the coolest looking way available and out of advanced materials *anyone* can get Seriously I can't wait to see some movie (be it a college or Hollywood one) use this as a "scifi" gun
I really like polymer painters tape. Usually it's found in automotive painting areas. 3m's is yellow and is used ubiquitously in aviation painting, so it'll work well enough for a hobbyist
PlastiDip is a rather epic finish, it last on steel rims through a winter(several actually) without any issues so it is very hard wearing, it dries through evaporation so it grows harder over time and it's a very functional tactile and grippy finish that can be easily touched up as the solvent in the touch-up dissolves the old surface so its is a homogeneous and seamless bond. Also available in the whole gamut of camo colors....
@7:33 - Well he definitely knows how to make a gun but he sure as heck doesn't know how to paint 🤣 LOL i love this video ✌🏼 (i cant wait to get the AMS System so i can print an orca with 2 flamen colors instead of paint 😈)
Hey Hoffman, I'm going to dive into 3d printing some of the stuff you've created. But could you list out your 3d printer + Setup? I'll just buy what you're using so that I know they'll work for this project! Appreciate all your help.
If you wanna get a good printer you can get a svo6 they are amazing and cheap super good or any svo printer is pretty good the new svo6 plus is bigger so if you have anything you wanna make that's bigger you can personally I went with a larger printer myself
Question for anyone who sees: why is PLA + the choice material for these types of projects? Wouldn't a PC blend of CF PETG provide the rigidity of pla, but with the added bonus of more temp resistance? Just getting into the hobby, but 3d printing and mechanical design is kind of my jam.
Hey, I live in commie-fornia, wondering if there could be support for everything but the lower on the orca to be printed on like a aero precision lower, to still be able to print most but not all. since the serialization laws are stupid here.
The only problem is, you painted all the parts that you will normally grab with your hands, so it's going to wear off fairly quickly. I think it would have been better to do the exact opposite, and leave all your white areas black, and paint the rest white. That way your grip areas won't have any paint. (unless you're going for that "worn" look, which will come). Edit: Also I looked up an Orca and I see what you're doing, with the white on the bottom. I just think it's going to wear fast. cheers.
Mini painter here, Spray a varnish over your work when you're done to help preserve your work. There's a wide variety of Varnishes for things from cars to tabletop miniatures. I advise using a varnish that isn't so reactive with heat in this case since I assume we all plan on having fun in the sun and not all varnish's are friendly for that such as many door varnish's. Should help to keep your work looking nice and you can use a varnish to also provide a matt or glossy finish, or be fancy and do some matt and some gloss.
On todays episode we’ll be painting happy little orcas
Lots of thin coats. No red coats
Or turncoat
Wow, the SpaceX colonist rifle!
Looking forward to seeing this printed and shot on Mars by some free settlers in 2030-40s

Video production quality is through the roof, great work
Epic music starting, and then the switch to Beethoven,.... :D well rounded in your music interests. ;)
That actually looks really cool before its painted. I wouldn't assume 3d printing just looking at the finished parts
Yeah, I noticed that too. I wonder what fillament this is, or if he finished it somehow?
its carbon fiber filament
That paint job is AWSOME
Hoffman All I will say is that PACF6 and Cerakote is OP. Keep up the good work
As always, excellent video. 👍
This looks like a work of art! I wish I could buy a similar model pre-painted, since I know I'd mess it up every way possible. 😅
Do you have plans to release a 9mm Orca?

😂 the music at 9:43 with all the hanging parts.
A funeral march!
I use a paper towel roll tube or rolled up paper inside the handguard when I paint
Some call it Orca, but this would be my Airwolf build 😂
Awesome work 👍
Great video as always.
Super cool

I will paint with the blood of my enemies
What if you use a long balloon to prevent the inside of the hand guard from getting painted and not the painters tape?
If you have one, worth giving it a shot.
Tim Hoffman = respect ✊
Need some Miami tiger stripes next!
You think it's safe to paint assembled if I do a good tape job?
ar you goin make a ar pistol verison

Not PC or PETG. But carbon fiber Nylon is choice. That's what this build is.
Could the textured and smooth parts just be printed with different color filaments or does color switching impact the structural integrity too much?
If you have a IDEX or AMS, sure. I do think there is a loss in strength, but if you do it carefully it should not effect the high stress areas.

Is that intro ok on RUclips?
I'm worried too.

It does wear on the tops of the texture, but that just adds to the look ;)

How do I buy the project?/
Do you have a discord channel?
yo would the orca work with a 300 blackout?
the docs just say use at my own risk
I know of a couple guys who have tried it with good results. Feeding / ejection issues are all that might come up.
@@HoffmanTactical thanks
Let's see who's a nerd too...... two thin coats ,).
Gotta sub on my other account otc
Good stuff.
Aren't you supposed to cure the paint before gloss..?
I've not found it's needed, if you give the entire job a few days to cure.
