Taking a brand new JVC and pitting it against a 3 year old version of a Sony that also just launched a new version. Amazing that Sony lets you sell their products.
Highly skeptical when a company compares their product to a competitor. They could have very easily calibrated their product and de-calibrated the competitor. The Sony 8100ES has a MSRP of $32K. Sony makes a great projector with a very film like image and very detailed image with great motion interpolation. JVC black levels and HDR performance really outshine all past Sony models. It will be interesting to see if Sony has fixed its HDR performance issues and have they been able to lower black levels without crushing details. The fact that Sony is trying to price $6k more than JVC means they better have fixed those two issues or only Sony fanboys will buy the Sony projector.

I think Sony did itself “harm” with the release of its x5000/6000/7000 projectors. Sony grossly failed to keep its projector tech-up-to-date and instead relied on its past successes to carry them forward. Brand loyalty I think helped them get over the hump but they got some very serious JVC “surprises”. Overall though, what the !major! difference is for me is - after sales tech support. Sony has severely cut back on this, and over the last 3 years (as best I can tell given my direct contact with several recent Sony projector owners) is that customers have seriously suffered!
@marvinabugov4579 with Sony releasing the 5000es and Epson releasing the LS12000 it forced JVC to lower their pricing. On average when JVC released the NP5, NZ7, NZ8, and NZ9 their pricing was $2000 more per model. Those projectors were overpriced. I said as much when they were released. Now JVC has made their pricing more competitive and that NZ500 will sell well. I am waiting on Sony to release a replacement on the 5000es.
@@percybedford6266 Agreed. I am curious to see what Sony does with the X5000 as compared to the JVC NZ500. I already own a 2018 Sony 285es but it needed a new motherboard within the first few weeks after I got it. Since then it has worked fine with over 3000 hrs. on it now including a new bulb at 2800 hours. (Where Sony got the idea its bulbs would last 6000 hours (as originally advertised) is beyond me to understand.) So, as a result, “after-sales-support” should something go wrong on the unit I got - is very important! I do not necessarily expect every production unit to be perfect (although much preferred!) BUT at least to know that the unit can be properly repaired! Question: Who to TRUST for the longer-term? Right now, I think it is JVC although my dealer says Epson has excellent after sales support, but I am not ready for pixel shifting - when everyone else can competently do 4K. BUT! Sony might have learned some lessons over the past 3-years, maybe? I’m told by an expert that I follow where he says: “not likely!! Sony does not fix stuff - INSTEAD Sony waits for its next set of projectors to do that” - but I await the “reviews” before I make my long-awaited decision for a budget “laser” projector. Suffice to say, I didn’t buy the x5000 two years ago because of well substantiated review reports of excessive laser fan noise in high mode. I raised this matter “in real-time” with an a Sony rep who was on-line during an Audio Advice vlog about Sony projectors. His response: “There are no issues with Sony projectors!” I gave him 3 references (two documented in RUclips vlogs! and the other was my local dealer). No response!

@@marvinabugov4579 I have an Epson LS12000. I got it last year. About a month and half of having it my power company was doing work in my subdivision and they sent noticing out saying there maybe a black out. Sure enough there was a loud boom in my theater room and it fired my HDMI cable and the HDMI patch in the projector. I called the dealer I bought the Epson from and we got Epson on the phone. I had to put a deposit on my card so they would next day the projector. I got my new projector the next day and Epson sent me the return slip. I mailed out the old Epson and I got my deposit back in 2 days. Epson's customer service is A-1.
@@marvinabugov4579 Epson has excellent customer service. I had to send my LS12000 back and I got a new one next day. I did have to put a deposit on my card and ship out the old one I had. Once they got it back, they refunded my deposit.
That’s a very insightful take on Sony’s recent projector lineup and customer experience! Many find that post-purchase support plays a major role in their satisfaction, especially with complex tech like projectors.
JVC all the way the image speaks for itself. Sony fell off, just updating your TV causes a green line across the panel. Customer service is HORRIBLE no-one wants to help.
