One project at a time and your place just keeps getting better and better. Time and work give rewards!!!
Jen nothing beats Madagascar Vanilla! It will taste great! I use it in my baking and cooking all the time,it just has the most vanilla flavour.
can't wait to bake with it!
I remember my woodworking grandpa soaking branch logs in hot water to loosen the bark before peeling.
Good tip! Will have to try that for next project
Jay love your videos and enjoy watching them. May the lord bless and protect you and Jen and working on the homestead and building
Thanks for watching always brenda and the kind words
You two are so much fun to watch and I love the sense of humor.
you did a great job of peeling the limbs , very time consuming ... great work Jen
Bless your heart Jenn !!! Getting that bark off of those small limbs is hard!!! It is much easier to do large trees.
lots of hard work for sure
I say if it works , use it !!!!! Usually I use the curved ones for inside cutting, that size , short bowl, platter etc. Outside have always used a flat blade and longer strokes . I'm no professional , just my opinion ! Work's for me anyway .
The best way to peel logs is to do it the way you want!!🤭
Jen, you're doin the right way LOL. Can't wait to see hoe the vanilla turns out. Cheers!! J & C
Jen I think you are right. It's alot of work. ❤
hard work but worth it!
Thanks Jay and Jen 👊🏻👍🏻God Bless 🙏🏻 Appreciate you
Thanks for watching!
Jay is right, but you do what works for you. You could use a grinder with a wood disc to remove the bark. I've had good luck with that. Just be careful it can kick back.
I think your way goes faster even though the other way is correct. You look so cute with your new hair style.Cant wait to see what you guys are up to next. ❤❤
I don't think there is a right or wrong way to use the peeler. I think use it which ever way works best for you!! Can't wait to see how the railing turns out
the old man is wrong you go girl ........cheers
14.00 Hey Jen, don't store your vanilla on the top shelf of your pantry, the light will come in your stained-glass window and spoil them! lol. Great idea and something I'd never considered, although it seems simple enough... Greetings from Sunny Perth, West Australia. Still followin' along... Frank.
I hope you guys didn't hurt your eyes looking at the sun, without special glasses.
Jen has a hooch shack! 😅 Woot! Woot!
I have not been well lately with Asthma so I have been watching all your videos from the beginning. It helped me cope with my asthma thanks 💚🤪
So glad it helps you feel better my friend. Please rest and we hope you feel better.
Jen, I believe you are holding it correctly
Dang you had me lol , thought you were doing the whole loft railing in this video 😂guess I’ll have to keep watching 😉
lol - always many parts -
I absolutely love your hair cut Jen🎉
Jay is completely correct it’s shaped like it is for that reason
it worked both ways so that's all that matters :D
@@OffgridwithJayandJen so true
As a woman, Jen is always right. Lol
I've never peeled wood in my life. I have seen Brooke do it alot. She says that there is no wrong way, just do what works for you. I trust Brooke.
CREATIVE IDEA..... woot woot....I bet its going to look great....cheers
Try putting some of your drinks under the cabin it should be cooler
I think whatever floats your boat what works for you or what works for him as long as the job gets done LOL
I would say whatever works for you.😊
Jen, The common way to use a draw knife is like Jay says. It removes a wider and longer strip of bark when pulled.Typically, the wood is held in place so it doesn't move when you debark it. This allows you to pull harder and longer, thereby removing more bark per pull. A smaller knife would work better for you because it wouldn't be as tiring on your hands and arms as would your bigger one.
it worked for jen the way she did it :D
Sorry Jay
Jen's way looks right 🎉
So you didn't get too dark with the eclipse. Here it got dim and the temperature dropped and it got quite windy. It warmed up after. Making your own vanilla. Very cool. The real stuff is more expensive. It will be nice to see how it turns out. 🙂👍👍🇨🇦
In Oakville Ontario just a brief, very small partial (as partially cloudy) with some lovely sunshine afterwards!
excited to see it too- got a long time to go still
Do whichever was is easiest for you!❤
I like that answer
Omg, you’re making me giggle…it’s just like the toilet paper roll..over or under…lol 😂,….it’s a personal preference I believe. Also, you’re supposed to have special glasses to look up at the sun so not to wreck your retinas and go blind. Cool peeling!
Typically it is done the way Jay said but whatever floats your boat.
LOL I like that answer
Jen you are holding it right. But you should try for longer strokes. It is easier to do if the wood is dried. I did it with pine years ago and yes it is very hard work
hard work for sure but worth it!
Grey Goose? You’re living the high life! 😍🇨🇦
haha - it was left at our house after a bbq like 7 or 8 years ago. so it was time to be used lol
Neat I have always wanted to try 😊
I use the same beans and I do Volka , because you can see when it turns a nice dark warm color. Mine is 8 months old now and beautiful. Smells so good. Dollar tree has the cute bottles with the lids that work so well for gifting.
Jen will have to check out the dollar tree when hers are ready! Thanks for the tip
You tube “Kyles Cabin”. A young man building a log cabin in N. Minnesota. He scrapped enough logs to build a cabin. He did it over this winter logs (not limbs) via the method your using. After a few, one gets a method and rhythm and it goes a bit faster.
we have watched him a few times
Your tool is not a draw knife, they are a flat blade with a bevel.yours is a scope used to dig out chair bottoms and the meat of hand made wooden bowls.
It's a spoke shave. You need a "draw knife"'.
it worked for what we needed done
Nice guys. Jen we both think you're right and it's much easier the way you're doing the peeling. Yes, very hard work. Good exercise! 💪 Hey I tried resending that email. Wanted info on the music plus had a bunch of questions about rain and water etc. 😁
Thanks for watching
I like the villain bean ideal, thank you two 😎
:D thanks for watching
I wait to peel them after they have been cut a year.
humm.....always heard they peel easier when green. I know the Maple bark basically falls off after a year on its own.
Jay is wrong BUT you need to hold it on a flatter angle x x
Hi guy's, hope that vanilla turns out tasty. Can't wait to see the loft railing ❤
Thanks for watching
Your way seems much faster.😍
I think it doesn't matter I would do it like you.
Thanks !
I think you're both right, in my opinion, because you both got the bark off.
good answer lol
Very cool 👍🏻😎
thanks!
That hill looked really steep from that view
it is very steep!
As a married man of 43 years...... The wife is right😇
I sometimes put a vanilla bean in a big bottle of whiskey. Makes the cheap stuff taste decent without an overtaking flavor.
ah will have to try that maybe
Jay was wrong,Jen is always rigth.Sorry Jay
good thinking-
Same issue with the toilet paper, o er or under, l guess is what's comfortable for the user...l say a tie...😅😂
Ha....love it
Jen it’s not wrong if it’s working
:D
I make vanilla and then put that, 1 can of condensed milk and 1 can of evaporated milk to make coffee creamer. It is delicious!
sounds delicious will have to try that when the vanilla is ready
Actually you can use the draw knife either way. Whichever works best for you.
Excited to see the railing build.
I'm only 90 miles from the total eclipse in Missouri. We got 97%, coverage.
I'm prepping for eye surgery so I didn't physically look at it.
Jen likes hearing that :D
You are both right depending on what you are doing , but !!! toy should be using a flat blade draw knife . Get that candium layer off to get rid of the brown . Lay them out in the sun to bleach white . .... Oh nevermind I see you have a flat draw knife .
:D thanks for watching
Need a draw horse.
Thanks for watching :D
Yum on the vanilla beans , you are halfway to home made Kahlúa . I was told to scrape the seeds out. ? Wonder what would happen if you dropped a few beans in your maple syrup.
hmm that would be tasty have to try that out sometime!
do it what fell right for you
Here in Arizona it dimmed out and got cold during the full eclipse. ❤
Oh wow!
Like the kasocke4x4got a John Deere amt 600 it's like a three wheeler with four back tires and a dump bed .
Thanks for watching
Hi guys. So are you now being able to send maple syrup to New York?
Yes, we are going to try and get the syrup put into smaller jars this week and get things rolling. Send us an email if you haven't yet. Jen is keeping a list. Thanks
Not wrong your way, just easier.
Thanks for watching .
Snowing again? Ahhh
ya it keeps trying to show up in michigan all of spring lol
🇳🇴👍👍
Sharp tools and medication don’t mix!

No wrong way it gets the job done.
