Whether it's a Sustainiac, or Fernandes system, or something else, I love the sustainer systems for electric guitars. The give unique sounds and abilities that you can't typically get any other way. BUT the issue has always been finding a guitar with one of these installed. Now there's a company that will custom build one of these systems for any guitar! Veyz Sustainer. And it's not even expensive! Let's check this out.

I've owned two Sustainiacs and two Sustainers. I currently am down to just a Fernandes Ravelle Deluxe, which is an amazing guitar. I let the other guitars go way too cheaply. To the people that bought them, you're welcome...but I digress. In my opinion, these pickups completely change the dynamics of your playing and allow for versatility and creativity you wouldn't otherwise have. Thank you, Max, for making this particular video. been using sustainer systems for years... I have one on my cheap project guitar whom I jam-packed with every possible upgrade I can find. I put everything, including an upgraded FloydRose with a stabilizer system, a kill switch, a toggle switch stacked in the volume pot, a coil split selection stacked in the tone pot, even an RGB backlight behind the tremolo cavity that changes colour according to what feature and what mode of that feature I have active. Lastly, I also stuck in a piezoelectric pickup behind the neck sustainer driver w/ it's own independent output and battery. it's a lot of things packed into one cheap guitar that I've grown with for years and I love it. It's only now that I noticed these sustainiac systems are getting pretty popular... great content! i love your videos! hope I see more sustainiac related content... I just love those. their a part of my playstyle now. I would also love to see some new guitar technologies or upgrades that I can add to the same guitar. again, I love your content!

Easy to order, they needed make, model, pickup configuration, sent it pre-wired, only major hurdle was the router work for the battery box. Install kit was $225, tech charged me $80 for the work, and I gotta say I love it! Gonna take a while to figure out how to use it, cause it changes the whole personality of the axe, but it's fun as hell!

I have had 3 actual Jackson DK2S guitars, and each one needed costly repairs more than once. Even when it had already been repaired by the inventor of the Sustainiac(A. Hoover). Try getting a hold of those guys on the phone or through email when you need help. Very difficult and not the friendliest individuals. There's a reason Eddie Van Halen didn't work with them, and there's a reason most of the big name guys were with Fernandes or Hard Driver. Veyz is a very friendly guy, and I was happy to do biz with him about a year ago.
Bonus: One of those Jackson's came back with a giant ding/chomp when they shipped it back to me after the first repair. So the system got fixed, but I got some free damage to my guitar 🙂...and then the system failed again not even a year later. I'll never use a sustainiac again, never do business with them again, and will stick to the hard driver ones in my PC1's, my old Fernandes guitars, or a Veyz.

Too much fun!

    • @Aaron-zh4kj
      @Aaron-zh4kj Год назад +4

I've got one too. The only thing is that it doesn't do is the infinite sustain thing that a sustainer will do (eventually the pedal has nothing to listen to once the note dies). I go back and forth on if it'd be worth it to sacrifice my favorite neck pickup just to have that one feature (sustainer drivers don't sound like a classic alnico neck pickup at all), and I almost come back with the answer no, so the freqout does a fantastic job for those passages in songs where I want the amp in the room sounding and still going through a silent digital rig.

@@Aaron-zh4kj if you set it up as I have, it's quite sensitive. Mine is set to hold & gradually feedback when I step on it, & just the slightest vibrato under my fingers will keep it going strong for a ridiculous amount of time. It's insane, lol!

I’ve also had the DigiTech Freq Out pedal for about 3 years, and when playing my Schecter Sun Valley with the “Sustainiac” with different settings on the FreqOut pedal, it is mind blowing how many other harmonics (somewhere between a dozen different harmonic setting, plus 4 pots that adjust time to come in, depth, etc) I’m able to add to the Sustainiacs 3 settings... After I purchased a 16-20 pound Schecter a couple years ago, I decided that between the weight, and the fact that I was able to do so much more with the infinite settings from the FreqOut, ( only difference was it lacked any way near the amount of infinite sustain as the Sustainiac) but through my agent I was offered a rediculace deal on my “Sun Valley” and only weighing a mere 10 pounds, I couldn’t resist. So now I’m adding a Sustainer to my “John Pettrucci” Music Man, which is my favorite player of my 13 guitar collection!

ALL of your best guitars WILL sustain & resonate more than any other when trying them all UN-PLUGGED. Pickups are pickups, and can be changed out anytime. But you can bet the farm that the electric guitar that sustains & resonates the most UN-PLUGGED vs all of the others, WILL do the same when plugged into a good tube amp.

Stays in tune a lot better and swapped the humbuckers for dimarzio Evo 2 bridge and Evo neck. Middle pickup damaged a few months ago and got a warman middle pickup. Really compliments the humbuckers. i use 9.6 volt NIHM pack which is for a r/c , it lives in my strap . it is fused . it has a 90 2.1 dc connector . the guitar has an additional 2.1mm dc port one inch above the side 1/4 output . i have been doing this for many years . you can also use an xlr cable and run the 9 volts thru the third wire , use a 90 1/4 inch connector and run the wire with the 9 volts out of the end of this 90 , to a 2.1mm dc connector . then you can install a 7809 v-reg in your amp and front panel mount the dc port . thats another way i used to do it . i never had interference. i have two fernandes sustainer guitars but i hurt my back so i play headless stienberger spirit . i would love to get a lighter guitar that is equipped with a sustainer . like my spirit . you could just send me that jackson , that would be a nice gesture max . thanks in advance ! super cool !! we live in n apartment and we do a lot of headphone jamming with the family band and now the duo . using the sustainer system gave me "feedback" . which i used it a lot for years i loved my sustainers and i rarely shut them off ! it was ok as i dont use a 9 volt cell i use nihm battery pack .

Hey bro me and a friend ordered 3 ($100 each + 30 shipping) he got a single coil, I got a humbucker and a single coil... (only took about a week to get them ... we are east coast) I do have a couple Fernandes guitars with Sustainers and yes these work but nowhere as good but they are also so $400 cheaper. also if you switch the pickup selector while it's on you get crazy squealing and there is only 2 modes even though he advertises 3 (UPDATE: I saw in the description on their ebay listing that the "MIX mode was with system on and neck PU selected) It will work when the neck pickup is selected but sounds darker and the drive pickup when system is off sounds a bit darker and not as good as the ceramic pickup that was there. I put in the single coil last night and well it works but you get what you pay for, I am hoping the humbucker will be better since the magnet seems much stronger I say that cause I had to get the pickups closer to get it to work better. If you can't shell out $500 for the Sustainer or $350 for a Sustainiac then get this one .

I bought one of these a while back. Overall its a good alternative if you don't use the neck pickup.
The driver can't actually act as a pickup, and that's something I wish I'd known before buying. The polarity of the other pickups in the guitar before you add the system is something to note as well. If you add it in the wrong orientation than the driver and the pickup cancel out and it does nothing but squeal uncontrollably.
During the installation process I was sent a wiring diagram that didn't match the harness, so I changed the harness to match the diagram like an idiot. I fixed it and installed it without much hassle.
It didn't help that I live in the us and they are made in Indonesia, because the only time they would answer my messages about questions was at 3am. Time zones suck.😂

The sustainer has INFINITE sustain, it isn't a gain booster, so a pedal can't do that, because you need something that make the string vibrate. The sustainer pickup has a coil that induces vibration to the strings, it's a physical thing, not electronical.

I think the solution needs to be better. Perhaps built into the neck somehow as it needs to be as far from the bridge pickup as possible. Maybe the 12th fret of your fretboard could be a sustainer, that way you can keep your favourite neck pickup where you want it.

But, It came without any schematics so I had to contact them through Reverb and request one. Communication was somewhat difficult and after a few back and forth, they sent me a schematic. The schematic doesn't make sense. It has a red wire coming from the sustainer amp that doesn't exist on my unit. The battery is wired differently from my harness. DO ANY OF YOUR SUBSCRIBERS KNOW A SOURCE FOR A GOOD SCHEMATIC? The guitar I'm modding is the same set up that Max is using in the video: Two Humbuckers, 1 vol, 1 tone, and a Tele style 3-way switch. Before anyone comments, I know how to read schematics and I have been modding my own guitars since high school (1972 ughh). Thanks in advance!
