Even though I’m 30, I didn’t know until a couple surgeries ago that the mask is not always used for anesthetic gases. It’s used to give the patient 100% oxygen since they won’t breathe on their own when the anesthesia kicks in.
When I was a kid, I had surgery a few times and the anesthesia gas they used was flavored! Never used an IV because you could pick between ALL these flavors like chocolate or strawberry! I wish they used that for adults too.
Jessicaisrealawesome I chose one smell for all of my surgeries and I can’t smell artificial grape without like gagging and not wanting to be in that room
When I had my apendix taken out I was scared and if I wated an nother 2 hours my apendix wonld have ecploded and I would have died or not have walked. And thanks to my parents they helped me and stayed by my side
Funny moment I had when I had surgery: the nurse measured my heartbeat and I was so nervous, my heart was beating a little faster than usual. The nurse noticed it and said, “I can tell you’re nervous,” and I said “Yep.”
I went through the same thing, kinda. I had a severe asthma attack, and the nurse said that what he was holding was a needle, and my heart rate went up, then he just said the he was joking. (The hospital was the Bayonne Medical Center).
I remember that when I had my tonsils taken out, they gave me a blanket "fresh out of the toaster" (their exact words) and they told me to blow up the balloon on the other end of the mask. I didn't even have time to say that the scent was bothering me.
