Hey Everyone!! Have you been keeping up with the adventures over on Tokyo Lens Explore? (ruclips.net/user/TokyoLensExplore) I 100% brought more than I needed for this trip! And hopefully almost everything should be linked in the description! Did you have a favorite item? Let me know in the comments!!
nothing says "let's go on an adventure" more than that camping go-bag (go-crate?) ready to go at a drop of a hat. It's a pretty-well thought out kit too; partner it with that supplies, that power station and maybe some solar panels and you're good to go for an extended campervan roadtrip
I am so jealous that you are camping for a whole week. That sounds like fun. The fan is my favorite thing you brought because I can’t sleep if I am hot.
I’m not sure if I am more excited about the cameras, camping gear, or the coffee. Also, every location shoot MUST have too much gear, etc. It is a requirement. If not, inevitably, the one thing that is left behind is the one that you need. 🤦🏼♀️
The first 10 seconds drone shot and the music, is enough to makes people hooked the cinematography is just chef kiss, One of the best RUclips channel I've ever find.
I'm overjoyed that we have someone like you to share all the magic and hidden gems of Japan so that the rest of us who dream about going can have something to tide us over and look forward to for the day when we can return and experience it all. Thank you so much Norm! Don't ever change :)
camping is just amazing. The freedom you get by the posibility to sleep nearly everywhere is amazing. I often went camping with my family and the best gear ever is the "göffel" a tool that unites knive, fork and spoon... No seriously the gas coocker is something i couldnt live without.
I’m in love with (and slightly envious of) your packing skills. This camping trip is like the culmination of all the “Norm packs everything in little bags” jokes that have been peppered throughout all your videos. Just look at all the things you were able to pack, keep organize, AND fit in the little van; I’m impressed.
Thank you for the amazing livestreams on the Tokyo lens explore channel. And you still managed to make a video for the main channel amidst all that. As a lazy person I admire your work ethic so much.
Giant Marshmallows: "Die, or be a diabetic" - Hey, gotta go some time buddy and I can't think of a better way. ;) Always good to see what's needed for these streams. Great job Norm.
One, your organization skills are like Tetris level good. Two, how long does it take you to prepare for these sorts of journeys, or did I miss that in another video? Three, you never cease to amaze with your camera skills…the sights, transitions, and how you make it feel like we’re there with you. Thank you!
Great video! I am so happy that you put link to all the things you showed here! I really want that portable fan, it looks easy to use and will be useful during any heatwaves during travelling. I cannot wait for the rest of the videos from this trip!
You've gathered a lot of useful stuff. When I was a kid, the only things that my father was taking for camping were tent, lighter and a fishing rod 😅 I need to go on camping one day by myself
Just wanted to say thank you once again for the excellent livestreams, it's been such a wonderful journey from start to finish that I'm looking forward to what you decide to film next! Otsukaresama desu!
I always used to go camping with my parent as a child, and im slowly getting into it again after moving out. Its really nice to just go out into nature and relax for a couple of days
When you passed 8 cameras I was like, "OK, I get you now." Having a backup to your spare action camera in your pocket was the best part. I would love to have you capture, on a body mounted GoPro some random tourist at a photo spot, walking up to you and asking, "Could you please take a picture of us?" and you going, "I already have..." with a wry smile.
That is some unbelievably good preparation and packing 👌🏻 Also everything recently is just enhancing my longing to go camping in Japan! Especially given how lovely this campsite looks 😍 I honestly can’t think of anything else these days. I need some adventure! (And a better sleeping bag) Amazing video as always! Thank you so much for sharing 💖
Such an amazing adventure week! Really cool to see all the packing and gear that is involved with the longer trip! Definitely haven't seen a fire set up with a mesh base before, so that was neat. I don't think it would be practical for holding a lot of warmth or for cooking or windy weather like you mentioned, but still pretty neat! That campsite was pretty awesome on its own as well! Thanks again!
_I love seeing these sorts of videos, I enjoy being prepared when I go camping, so it's interesting to see what other people like to bring on their setups and what they get excited about, like the PHATPOWERBANK! I revel in his excitement_
I usually carry my DSLR in a small pelican case and put that in a normal backpack. I also have a small pouch with the charger, spare battery and a SD card case with cards. When I can only carry one case and a backpack(that needs to be filled and can't fit the pelican). I put a 50mm on my DSLR and try to fit the charger, battery and some SD cards.
Time and time again I get flabbergasted by how well you make your videos and this time you even showed us how good you organize your stuff ! I'm looking forward to your next video ! 😁
Those little propane cooking things are life savers. Not only great for camping but should be a staple in any emergency kit! Came in handy in the aftermath of Hurricane Laura.
Hi Norm. Thank you for all your work. I love camping and my fav bit of kit is my Kelly kettle. I couldn't live without it. Check out the one that comes with all the extras, handful of twigs and you can boil over a ltr of water in a minute, plus it looks epic in the dark as its a volcano kettle😊oh and it makes a great noise as it does its thing❤️❤️love from the UK xx
Norm , you are living the dream in that Traveling Gadget van and keeping your sanity and health up . Those coffee holders are used I think in the japan Rail hotels I know I used them in Nagasaki station . After covid i got to drive that country and some of your Tips are fantastic .
I think the charging station is probably one of the most useful items you brought while the new fire pit, not so much. 🤔 You, obviously, are well organized in your preparations👍 Really enjoy the content!
The sheer amount of camera equipment! Impressive so see how much you carry around to film & bring us your content. The huge powerbank looks super handy, we rented a similar one (I think it was a bit smaller tho) for camping once and it really was super helpful.
Thanks Norm! I really enjoy these equipment/gadget videos. Your links were very convenient. I ordered the fan so I can have some cooling even when the power goes out. That cook set seems to be a real bargain. I look forward to seeing how well it works for you in the coming week.
The happiness in Norm's voice when showing his camping gears! I am already sold with the van, Kai, when I saw it. I think the new one I like is the kitchen equipment. The stove is ok, but the kettle, pot and pan, those are amazing! And the powerbank, some might say it is over the top but thinking the gears and equipment Norm brings, he really needs it. Looking forward for more of the camping videos. P.S. Some might call this glamping but I would rather sleep in a van than a tent.
Hola, I love your excitement in your camping trip and you showing us your new gear. My daughter saw a video you made on Sakura volcano and she loved it. Now she wants to travel to Japan, stay safe love your videos 💕😉
Hello notification squad! 15:04 Shirakawa-go in 4k = chefs-kiss.gif Them COLLAPSIBLE storage bins for the wood is a mark of a connoisseur. I have something similar on my folding bike's rear rack so it doesn't look too dorky when I'm doing my early morning clear-that-head rides but I'm always prepared for a surprise grocery run. That week of adventure was something yeah? Can't wait to see the curated 4k versions. Thanks Norm and good job here!
Didn't you have a pack of marshmallows for the first camping live stream? Hehehe I was infected by your enthusiasm for the gears you brought that I feel hyper at 1116pm. I feel like if I do get to do car/van camping for the first time, I might end up filling up my space with things I won't need at all. Missing th 5 day stream but I hope you have rested well since going back to Tokyo. Always looking forward to more.
If going for a Japanese brand, I hear the SOTO igniter is great too although a bit more pricey. Comparable to MSR PocketRocket. As someone who tips on the scale between lightweight vs ultralight backpacker, (and a combination of watching your videos from the other channel), I realize how fun watching this video was and how much more I want to camp in Japan!
Hey Norm, great video. Wonderful B-Roll. I love the giant powerbank and didn't even know they made ones that big. The pocket campfire thing with the net at the end looks super unsafe though. Take care. Looking forward to more live streams on the Tokyo Lens Explore channel as well.
Another great video Norm, always love to see how much gear you have and it makes me want to go out and do some shopping. In answer to your question about gear at the end of the video, one of my go-to bits of camping gear is the gold old reliable trangia, such great design and the most reliable little cooking system.
Thanks for inspiring me to get back into camping. I took a week long road trip in the Northern Great Plains. I wished I had a camper van, as the temps were in the upper 90s F (mid 30s C).
So much cool stuff and quite organized😅 I would love to be somewhat close to this when I go camping, but I'll try to apply some ideas I got watching this. Also, this is a nice prelude to the incredible adventure we appreciated the past days.
Great opening drone shots and lol, so expected you to say you were at Costco for snacks ... not just one pack of sausages. There was also the "and the other early birthday present to myself mlwas this" ... Unpacks small camping stove "which I haven't tried yet" ..... was have expecting the " and Norm had to do the rest of the trip with no eyebrows" lol! The best bit of kit has to be the portable fusion reactor, oops I mean the power bank. I have several UPSes I use for power protection at home but this is in a while other league. Although what you need is a little freezer to be powered by it for ice-cream! It was a great series of adventures last week as shown on all the live streams in the Tokyo Lens Explore channel. Looking forward to the additional videos which were produced too.
I like how many of your things are compact that they fit in boxes. The new fire pit though... looks cool but doesn't look as safe as the old one. I mean it looks easy to knock over.
Nice camping set up! Be careful attaching the grill to the gas can, I’ve seen them spray some gas, so keep it away from your face! Looking forward to watching the build of the van.
What was the phrasing? Make the mundane seem interesting? So much more than packing a bag 😉 and nearly 16 minutes of interesting content. It's insane to me the amount of gear that requires charging these days. We get into an accommodation for the evening and every plug plus some power strips are occupied by gear. 🤣, Costco size bag of marshmallows. Too much marshmallow for s'mores. I may have just picked up an early birthday present for myself given your enthusiasm for a certain tiny camera.
I’ve been loving all the camping videos! Cool to see what you bring with you but also you’re stressing me out 😂 that’s not enough stuff! You’ve got like three shirts and barely any food, I’m gonna panic
You're living the life of my dreams! Would love to go on road trips, explore, hike, and camp in Japan! Thank you for sharing your experiences, goodluck on the journey.
I applaud your restraint in buying only what you came for at Costco! I’ve only ever managed that feat once, and that’s because I literally had someone waiting for me in the car 🤣
Oh woW GOod stuff Brother! THIS IS AWESOME! We have a couple of camping cars down here in Okinawa. Costco is coming to Okinawa next year were so excited lol!
Hi Norm! Holy gear Batman that's a lot of stuff! I thought it was funny that you went to Costco just for a package of sausages and then you said " I know that it's funny to go just for sausages...." I like the power bank the best, I think. It looks like it weighs a lot though. I loved the 4k shots of Shirakawa-go at the end, can't wait to see that one!!! Thanks Norm!
Big Backpack ? well my Alicepack large and my 75l hiking pack say "cute" XD That fire (mesh) pit, heard good reviews about it. But i had similar thoughts...how long the mesh will survive. If you going to an outdoor-store anytime soon, look out for a Coghlans folding grill (or similar), to upgrade the new firepit for BBQ ;)
Also, looks like we need to shame Olympus. How dumb can a company be to drop the ball like that? Good thing we all know that their products are garbage.
13:54 this looks fairly unusual 🤨 I don't camp that often but I have a radio that has a lil solar panel and you can produce energy manually for your phone. You can also use it as a torch
You have enough gear for 2 pax and 1 month on the road XD That is insane!! Love the power bank and bunsen burner camp set though XD It makes lots of sense now how you get around the way you do. Question though...do you have to go home, drop all the stuff before you return the camper? Or stuff it all in a cab at the rent-a-car place? Thanks so much for your hard work and dedication!!
Yeaaaa that fire pit is a no. And there’s nothing bad in a Pelican case lol. Okay so the Sony A7 is kinda like the Shure SM7B mic to me. I love my RE20 and I don’t want to just follow the crowd… make sense? Is it REALLY that good?
You have the same exact camp stove as me! (Great for if you wanna make s’mores but don’t have access to a fire. Just sayin’. I may or may not have done that in the middle of my living room after a strong craving. 🤣)
you must have had such a great time on this trip!!! I can't wait to go camping again (wife is only weeks away from giving birth to our first child, so family camping trips are on the cards for the future)
I personally would have gotten the marshmallows. I like a little something sweet after dinner. As for no cup, improvisation is the key. Glad to be able to relive this adventure - but in 4K.

Lol there were still a ton of snacks with the Tokyo treat and sakuraco boxes! Who needs marshmallows when you have all of that? 😂
I don’t know why your channel isn’t over a million members, they’re always so much fun and so educational! I need to start sharing them on my fb 😊

i really enjoy the tokyo lens explore channel, it makes indoor workouts more fun for me and less boring
This video is also making me excited for my camping trip next week. It's not an ambitious trip, but it's my first camping adventure in 4 years.

Hey Norm! Started tent camping this year (water and electric a must!) My single serve Keurig is the first thing I pack!

As an organized person who loves containers and storage, this was fun to watch!
Lol that second part of the comment made my day lol

Makes me want to go camping and the sausage from Costco is my favorite🤣. A well made intro as well.
Everything packed except a cup… 😊
Going thru your videos & enjoying each & every one…

See you real soon!!
Wow the first several seconds is amazing!!!!!
Looking forward to watching the build of the van.
love all the tips kind of like laid back camp with all the advice
Japan looks amazing to visit
I just bought myself a peak design clip! Excited to try it out
Thanks for the video, loved it as always! I even bought one of those fans just now, going to use it while camping so thank for showing that too!
What was the phrasing? Make the mundane seem interesting? So much more than packing a bag 😉 and nearly 16 minutes of interesting content. It's insane to me the amount of gear that requires charging these days. Those single use coffee filters! ❤ I wonder if I can find them in Canada... I would definitely use those

That fire (mesh) pit, heard good reviews about it. But i had similar thoughts...how long the mesh will survive.

Thanks so much for your hard work and dedication!!
must have been a treat to have the campsite to yourself
Looks like a lovely campsite! Thanks for the video! P.S I can’t believe you didn’t get the giant marshmallows!
That giant power bank is super cool though, having to work with only two outlets and spoiled USB ports must have been so painful, so that's great!

I'm still hung up on the camper. I'm surprised you didn't show more video of you using all the amenities.
Great as always
😊
The best things was the Camping Van for me !
You have the same exact camp stove as me! (Great for if you wanna make s’mores but don’t have access to a fire. Just sayin’. I may or may not have done that in the middle of my living room after a strong craving. 🤣)
great journey it was , thank you
and of course, to many more
So much more to come!
Great video, Love that fan i have never seen anything like it
you must have had such a great time on this trip!!!
Lol and so much more to come!!!
