That place with the creek and the koi in it just within arms reach from the pathway looks magical. I don't know any other places where that would work aside from Japan. I wish I would be able to visit, and hopefully live there, someday in the near future.
As soon as you started exploring that area, I imagined that it was growing up and visiting places like that which would have inspired the creators of Zelda. It was really cool to hear you guys comment a little later that you both were getting Zelda vibes.

The Japanese countryside, like in many other Asian countries, has almost this whimsical quality to it. Even in the older towns and villages, with their narrow streets and cobblestone pathways, makes them feel quaint, homey and welcoming.
Everything was perfect about the video, it made me so happy, County sides are truly the gem of Japan, thanks to mitch who made this journey a memorable one ❤️
Those giant fences I think are snow fences, they kind of just collect snowdrift to stop extra snow from building up in bad spots and reduce chance of avalanches depending where they're placed
Two things stood out to me: 1) The gentleman we see in 16:49 looks exactly like Hayao Miyazaki in the NHK documentary (when he goes to a beach to relax) 2) I saw how beautiful it is the Gujo Hachiman area, but what's the smell like? The fresh air, the moss walls and the feeling of running through a "maze". Just imagining thatt makes me fell a bit lighter.
What a great video! Those "giant cow " fences are to help hold back snow. We have them here in the US where I live. Ours though are usually on the sides of roads to help keep back snow.
This view is amazing, going hiking and camping on Japanese mountains is a dream of mine, it really makes me happy to look at that view even if it's through a screen
8:01 Monkeh watching birds, yes? 😂 I think that those big "cow fences" is to hinder snow from blowing to what ever direction. I have seen similar things along roads in northern Japan and they are to stop snow from blowing up on the road. Beautiful area Norm, those mountains are so amazing 💗
Man, those hidden alley ways! I'm a huge sucker for those. Just feels lived-in and cared by the folks there. With my curiosity, I wouldn't have left a stone unturned in terms of exploration.
That statement about castles was so accurate! Unless it is a super fancy castle like Heimeji, or you have a historical interest in it, they really are a part of the landscape!
@22:15 I'm pretty sure those are to manage the snow banks. I saw the very same in Montana and a local committed it's to keep the drifts from taking over
