- Well after a weekend of review bombing and setting twitter on fire the Helldivers 2 PC player base has gotten their wish. Sony has canceled the requirement for a PSN Account to play Helldivers 2 on PC. Most of this video was recorded before PlayStation announced that it was rolled back so many of my thoughts, while still valid, are without the knowledge this had been removed.
Helldivers 2 is a 2024 cooperative third-person shooter game developed by Arrowhead Game Studios and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game is the direct sequel to Helldivers, a 2015 top-down shooter. It was released for PlayStation 5 and Windows on 8 February 2024.

This isn't over. Do not relent or forget what happened because this is still Sony. Until everyone can dive again nothing has changed. Until its confirmed that countries that were locked out of purchasing the game can again it's not over. All Sony has done is said things on social media. Talk is cheap, action speak louder. My review will stay negative because I have no faith in Sony to not screw this up later when they try something else.
the playstation network account required tag is still up on the steam page , the may 2nd update page DOESN'T say its been removed simply that they are learning about player preference , NOTHING is changed except a REVIEW SCORE FOR THEIR UPCOMING INVESTORS CALL by people taking a twitter post as solid evidence, until the PSN required tag on the helldivers 2 page is removed and an update clearly stating it wont require PSN on steam im not changing my negative review im not falling for twitter crap that can be reneged on without consequence.

@@hoteleight4217 exactly why the hell is everyone going braindead and taking some talk on twitter as fact and not looking at the actual actions which judging by the updated info on the may2nd update which simply is a hold on the PSN requirement not a reversal to be a reversal they would have to both say its being reversed and remove the requirement from the steam page and put it in an update. not to mention work on reopening purchases for all those blocked countries none of which has occured
PS5 gamer here, I was rooting for PC players from the beginning. We're stronger together, and I want so much more from Helldivers 2. In honor of our win, I bought the original Helldivers game to show support.

That was steam doing that. This will all revert back. The whole issue was the sign in that's fixed. So everything else will return. You think they won't allow 177 countries to buy after its no longer needed. Think bro.

Some say it took 3 days for Sony to change their mind. Others say it was cause General Brasch didn't hear about it for 4

When they update the availability in the regions they cut off from purchase then I will change my negative review. I have a bit of trust issues with large corporations, I need to see them act on their PR.
This right here!!! Exact same, I am waiting for it to be brought back to those regions. Or Sony can literally go back and say PSN is required again.

I haven't even played helldivers and I have both steam and psn account, that being said I am very happy you guys fought this corporate move, it will strengthen consumer rights in the long run, small steps but this is definitely a massive win for players.
I would expect psn sign up requirements to be standard for all future titles at launch specifically with their live service games on PC.
The Helldivers community is writing a page in the history of gaming since day one.
Let's really hope the content never stops, because this game is something truly special
All this Helldivers 2 talk in the last few days got the game back on my radar, getting it on PC Steam for me little weakling laptop.
Corpos like Snoy speak the language of money. Those metrics are money. They played chicken with the community and they blinked first.
Still 2 problems here:
1. Cross-save/progress system. What AH and Sony gonna do?
2. Player in the regions that be PSN-locked still can’t play.
1: If you really want that, then you already need a PSN account so this hasn’t changed much for you. Those of us who don’t have PSN accounts … it doesn’t matter?
2: I’m pretty sure if they’re letting the status quo remain, then it’s just a short matter of time until those countries come back.

I think it’s coming.
One simple decision isnt enough to immediately revoke the bad reviews. If anything it should reflect the current state till everything been revoke especially since unless i miss an update the game is still removed from those country meaning they can go back any time and force the implementation
Actually, it was in the game before they disabled it And from what I’ve heard from people, I’ve talked to some of them could skip it and some of them couldn’t

I get why some people don't like it. but if they made it optional for a while and let there be cross progression between PC and PS5 so those users that want to can play in both places with the same character.
Yeah, I agree. They messed up by allowing it in those regions and they should’ve changed the FAQ before the game launched I feel like the mess up with the game being in the regions or PSN isn’t available was had something to do with all the previous PlayStation games on pc being sold there since they they don’t have the psn linking requirement
As a PS5 user, I stopped playing. We Dive together. My point is, I've seen a lot of hate for PS5 Divers, and some of it is warranted, but know there are lots of us who supported PC players. We fought for this win together and it is an honer to fight for Democracy with ALL the Divers.

Money hungry? This was a misstep by sony but it makes sense for them to require psn signin for their games on steam. It's costs the consumers nothing other than a few minutes and allows sony to show investors growth in Mau. Ms does this and reports steam users, ps users etc as part of their mau. You need a linked ms account on ps to crossplay minecraft. EA also does this, wb does this with some of their games etc.
The issue was that it wasn't enforced at launch and some countries don't have access to psn.

Sony and Arrowhead have a responsibility to make sure everything is correct on Steam. Also that it was available only in PSN allowed countries if that was going to be a hard requirement. Which they knew about 6 months before launch.

I think it should stay optional unless they put cross progression and store game saves on their servers to play where you left off on ps5 but if it doesn’t have that then it should be optional that how I feel or make it optional to link for cross progression other than that linking to me is not necessary

I don't really understand why we can't all unite console players and PC players. If you think technical about it we're all using the same equipment just different operating systems. Can we not just agree that scumbag corporation should just sit back and let the developers make awesome games?
The problem is not the fact that the psn account will be required to play. The real problem is that psn is not available everywhere. Microsoft and google are worldwide. You can create those accounts for any country, compared to sony which is available in only 69 countries.

Thank you for standing up to Sony on this. I know you have a bias towards Sony but good to see even Bias cannot supersede what was objectively, a stupid decision. Sad to see the usual suspects on twitter seeing this as PC players being ungrateful or not for "their community"
I agree the argument of "the store clearly says it" is not good enough because what the store says is in fact NOT clear. This game became a massive hit really quickly and quite a lot of people when they buy a game like this they don't read every minute detail. They have seen its success and popularity and they decide they want in. Also the store page does not even say you need a psn account in order to PLAY the game. The wording is bad because it is unclear. You could easily have assumed due to the wording that you need a psn account in order to link your psn account to your steam account. Which OBVIOUSLY... yeah you would.
I've also heard about a in-game splash screen that has this information on it. My only pushback to that is the splash screen is extremely easy to NEVER see because I have never seen it after 189 hrs played. If the unclear store page and a single in-game screen you can easily miss are the only places to see this info then it was not communicated properly. In my own case I never even looked at the store page until all of this because a friend gifted me the game.
The War is not over, now we need to hold Arrowhead accountable and make them fire their community managers.
The only party we needs to be hold accountable is Sony. Arrowhead only develops the game. Sony sets rules on how it is released.

Gamers are the worst. I am sick of hearing PC players talk about how Sony should do more with PC, better ports, day one Multiplatform launch, cross play, cross save, cross buy, cross platform multiplayer and trophy support… finally Sony manage a day 1 PC/PS launch (but without the inevitable PSN sign in necessary for most of the former benefits to be a reality, due to a technical issue) and now PC players want their money back!
If this is so stupid choice to do then make Sony pay so much more. I am sorry to say but the game shouldnt recover in the slightest. If it does then i feel like sony will just do this again with another game.

They really should just give exclusive benefits to linking, but kept optional.
I have to say that PC players are saving the game now if it wasn't for the PC players Sony would not how to change their minds if PC players had spoken out and a huge chunk of the player base would be completely gone. Considering that only 69 countries have PSN as for everyone outside of that range of countries that would have been a disaster for those players. Helldivers 2 would be dead, which should Sony's Answer to Call of Duty. The Customer is always right.

The power drunk jerk CMs and mods need to be actioned (demoted, power removed, fired, put on final warning, etc.)

I understand having some exclusive content to drive people to want to buy your product. But with how explosive helldivers was. Making it a ps5 exclusive and demanding psn hookup was stupid.
If i was sony watching helldivers explode like it did on steam i would have dropped the psn mandate(knowing that psn cant reach everyone on pc like steam) and i would start talks with Microsoft to tap into the obvious Xbox ODST community. As a PC gamer that started put on Xbox i would buy helldivers again for my xbox and i could convince my friends on xbox to get a $40 game vs failing to convince any of them to get a pc.
If other publishers are doing it, why is it a problem when Snoy does it? That's the point. We've been eating shit for a long time and we refuse to eat more of it.

This says the May 6th - May 30th deadline will be discarded, which was meant for New players in the original post by Sony.
What of the June 4th account link deadline for existing players? Is that being discarded as well? I dont believe so, if not, i think we're gonna be in the same boat in a month.
Finally, what are the odds Sony fixes the previously "unavailable in your country" players to be able to buy the game again? Seems like a huge waste to deny access to all those regions despite them previously being able to play it.
Big fumbles all around on this one. Such a shame really. Helldivers 2 was shaping up to be one of the best live service game in 2024.

Players in over 120 countries that have purchased the game would no longer be able to play, with PSN being restricted in their country. Got Sony to listen and realize what they did.

It is clear Sony needs to be more hands on their policy, they funded and supported this studio for 8 years, i was shocked to see AH throw their own publisher under the bus with precision and ignonimity. This is not a win for players imo (majority of whom had no issues playing the game nor registering for PSN even unsupported countries). this is a victory for a very small minority with large followings on places like reddit and discord.
Linking your account is not a hassle, PlayStation games had to link a Microsoft account to play seas of thieves. Even Minecraft, years after the game had been out without the requirement.
117 countries being delisted seems more like a steam to prevent the rampant refunds.
All in all, a storm in a tea cup that got out of control, thanks to the fanning of the flames by AH and its woefully inexperienced CM team as well as content creators looking to get some engagement.
How do you propose players in countries who did not have access to PSN deal with it? Don't poo poo this win against a big corporation like Sony. They made this problem and to their credit appear to have corrected it.

What are you talking about? Accounts? I can assure you, I don't have an xbox account, a psn account, a ubisoft account, an epicspyware account, or any other account linked to my Steam account.

PSN is only available in 69 countries everyone else outside of these countries would have been locked Out Of Helldivers 2. Sony's own actions would have killed the game and killed Sony's Trust with the PC players. Not surprised that fanboys are still good corporate shills of Sony.
