- Helldivers 2 has had it's worst weekend ever. In this video I go over all the Helldivers 2 Drama that happened over the weekend as well as the resolution we got earlier this morning from PlayStation.

the playstation network account required tag is still up on the steam page , the may 2nd update page DOESN'T say its been removed simply that they are learning about player preference , NOTHING is changed except a REVIEW SCORE FOR THEIR UPCOMING INVESTORS CALL by people taking a twitter post as solid evidence, until the PSN required tag on the helldivers 2 page is removed and an update clearly stating it wont require PSN on steam im not changing my negative review im not falling for twitter crap that can be reneged on without consequence.

The steam page not being changed is because the news literally just dropped today, you cant just snap your fingers and change a steam page.

Great to see that every once in a while these big corpos will actually listen if the backlash is severe enough. Now we need also band together and revert the negative reviews and get the game back to an overall positive rating. All that's left otherwise is Steam re-enabling the sales in all regions.

PS5 gamer here, I was rooting for PC players from the beginning. In our Victory, I purchased the original Helldivers in support.
I never expected Sony to cave. I bet it meant a lot of money changing hands somewhere. Sony took some sort of payoff to relent.

Let's be clear the main reason they backtracked is because the biggest issue is that they sold the game in countries that don't have PSN access thus by making it required everywhere, including those countries, would likely break one or more trade laws in those 120+ countries if no exception was made for them (which if they did tons of players would likely make alt accounts from said countries and use VPNs to get around that and that would be a red flag as it'd be obvious if tons of players suddenly come from said countries and sifting through those that are really from said countries from those not from said countries would be annoying as fuck and take tons of cash and time to do) which could lead to not only individual and class action lawsuits but likely even lawsuits against the government from said countries as well (and while Sony can use delay tactics on individual and class actions until the other party gives up they won't be able to against a country as the country has unlimited cash via taxes as well as can just tell them no you can't delay anymore, we're finishing this up now you had enough time to make a case and you failed to do so'). The moment that Sony dropped this requirement (technically option as they didn't even make it needed on launch as their EULA said it was optional on release) they should've given up this idea and if they wanted it mandatory they never should've released and made sure Steam didn't legally let people buy the game in said country from the start (granted it'll piss fans off though and is a stupid move imo that will kill any goodwill towards the company if anyone has any goodwill for Sony).
The other big issue is supposedly if Sony was to ban you on Helldivers via the PSN account they may also be able to ban your Steam account as a whole (I don't really paly on Steam/PC (my computer's 10 years old and can't really play modern games) and don't link Sony to it for the few games I played so I'm not really sure if this is true or just BS some people are spouting online) which is also a huge amount of BS...if they want to ban them from the game/PSN fine, but from another company's launcher Sony shouldn't have that possible control over your non PSN accounts.
I will also criticize Arrowhead for teaming up with Sony under these requirements (should've just said piss off to Sony imo and gave up the IP and made a new IP since Sony owns the Helldivers IP if I'm right...Sony may have been big in the PS4 era but they're quickly becoming more obsolete especially with the push for digital (physical is the only reason I'd consider buying a PS5 right now so if they ever drop physical I'll drop console for PC completely even if consoles are a bit easier to deal with due to not needing to switch/look up computer parts for a PC and don't cost as much as a PC most of the time) as well as for how their community managers acted (which was unacceptable imo).
I will also say Steam's also accountable for allowing these games to be sold (at least legally...if players find a workaround and use it and later get banned well it's not really Steam's fault in that regard...well legally anyway) in these countries without PSN or having some pop up at the moment of checkout when buying a game stating that you would need a PSN/some third party account to access the game (imo all games that have a third party account should have a popup on purchase that states something like: "Note this game requires/may require a 3rd party account to play the game. Please make sure you're willing to make an account with said service before buying the game as if you buy the game after acknowledging this warning you will not get refunded for this issue if you do not want to make a 3rd party account for said game." and even then I'd say Steam should require all of these 3rd party games should either have a Require or Doesn't Require a third party account and no in between so BS like this situation cannot happen again as customers will clearly know what they're getting into as they buy the game).
As for changing negative reviews to positive...I say no. If you change it than change it to mixed review scores at most and no more and make sure you leave a review detailing the issues you have with the game, what you liked, and clearly state you cannot push it to positive as this situation never should've happened to begin with...at best it should be somewhat Positive and no more (never overwhelmingly positively after this debacle). Granted this is my opinion on the issue when games do moronic things like (same sentiment would apply to games like Cyberpunk 2077 and No Man's Sky as both launched horribly even though nowadays they're doing good, granted I never played them or Helldivers either (not into shooters and all have shooter focused combat systems), all of these games that do something dumb either on launch or later on shouldn't every have a near perfect score as they released in a way that shouldn't deserve such a reception and it shows the company is willing to release games in a half assed state/with controversy which we shouldn't accept).
It can't be underestimated how well received this game is. I love it. It has a $10 per month battle pass and everyone's like "yeah it's fine! We still love it!"
It doesnt rly though. I've gotten all of them for free because you can just grind the currency easily.
@tzoanast1061 Sure. And it only takes about an hour with 4 people exploiting (which will be parched). But that's super boring.
Otherwise, you just can't stop playing. If you never stop playing, youll be able to get the 1,000 sc through natural gameplay after a couple of weeks. But, put the game down for a couple of months and come back when you're 2 or 3 war bonds behind. You have to either grind for weeks or... just pay a little money.
These aren't for cosmetics, either.
@@anubrakahn2970 I earned my super credits very easily and without any sort of intentional grinding, ever. Now yes I've probably played more than the average individual cause I have had a lot of free time lately for personal reasons but it was still very easy.
If you come late into a game, which is actually something thats gonna happen to me cause I'll be away for military service for 9 months and I'm gonna lose a lot of updates, then yeah it makes sense that you'd need to grind for the warbonds, I dont find that weird personally and it doesnt bother me.

Helldivers 1 peaked at 6700 players on steam. Likely a bit higher than that on Playstation (It initially released on PS3).
In the case of the community managers... I have worked in customer/client facing roles where I represent my employer and am expected to defuse and control situations where customers or clients are upset. If I behaved the way their CMs have toward customers, my employer may not blame me on a personal level but they would absolutely fire me while being right to do so.
Not to mention the CM openly (and completely falsely) claiming that Grummz s3xually assaulted multiple co-workers (this is called Libel) along with other accusations, the doubled down when pressed. The team needs to be repopulated.
I find it funny how people in the west who hate sony call the company soyny; soy + sony. In Japan, they call the company, kusony; kuso(garbage/shitty) + sony. And now in Helldivers, the company is called Snoy. Get bent sony!
As far as I'm aware, purchase is still restricted on Steam for certain countries, so nothing's changed and this isn't the win everyone thinks it is
Steam did the change not Sony, they got bombarded whith refund requests and did the obvious thing. It will stay blocked for a good time.
Seeing democracy in action is refreshing, because this shit rarely happens in real life where government doesn't care what the people think and continue to cater to special interests and line their pockets. Ironically the game about "managed democracy" has a more democratic system than real life democracy.

Unless there is cross save I don't see the point linking acc cause i am under impression you will need to buy console and pc version seperately to on both in first place.
The devs have said they will add cross-save in the future.

Hi Ruri, FYI while we don't really know who ask steam to retroactively delist the game as technically steam could have done it on their own, we do know one of Sony's responses to being in a PSN unsupported region
"PSN requires users to register in their country or territory of residence. Individuals who are traveling, working, or studying abroad may create an account in a country or territory different from the one in which they are currently located"
AKA illegally make an account in another country by violating Term 2.5 of their TOS of "Truthful" information

In the UK you now need to provide a phone number and/or some form of facial recognition to create a new account. A few months back I got a message saying as such even though I've had a PSN account for ages so, no it's not that simple at all.
Edit: Also, Sony hasn't actually the best track record for good security when it comes to data (they've been hacked quite a number of times) so it's no wonder people were sceptical of Sony's reasons for doing this (keeping people safe from "harassment" etc).

All of this happened shortly after I had to log in to an xbox account to play Sea of Thieves on the PlayStation, and I didn’t think it was a big deal. Then Helldivers asked for a psn login and everyone went crazy. It looked to me like people were just overreacting. I wasn’t aware that sony removed the game from many countries as their solution and that’s just uncalled for. That’s the one thing I think people should have been mad about

Day one, you could skip PSN creating accounts (like all Sony games). ToS/EULA never stated it, Sony support page also said it to be optional since day one.
On top of that, one thing is requiring an account when you're actually the one selling and providing everything like Ubisoft, MS, Battlenet and others do on Steam. Another is not doing any of these while also requiring an account without giving anything back and also ignoring the fact that you sold the game to people that would not be able to have the PSN account.
Most likely they didnt have it right away for selling purposes and to see how it would fare. After the huge success (and most players playing it from Steam), they decided to do it and boost their PSN numbers right before their next sharehold meeting in june.
Also, the CM part, this is basically the only time that companies need their CMs and they receive their money for it. And when Arrowhead needed them the most, they just stoke the fire and run away.
Things like this always happens to try to educate people that being a "higher up", "game dev", etc. doesn't exactly mean that you know everything about this better than everyone else. "They know more about the business than you!" and Sony higher ups do something that anyone with a little bit of common sense could see a huge problem.

The biggest issue steam players had with the PSN account is how it requrires a phot of your Government ID and a picture of yourself in some cases and how Sony gets its PSN hacked annually and millions of people get their data stolen
its amazing that sony is still a functioning company, and i believe this helldivers situation is far from over because it could have been entirely avoided and sony doesnt learn from their mistakes and will try something stupid in the future with this game or another

I left SONY entirely back in 2019/2020 during the Anthem debacle. Sony refused to refund my money for a game that was broken from the start. I was a lifetime Sony guy from 12 I had a PS1 all the way to PS4. I gave them thousands upon thousands of dollars over the years, and left a $2000 library behind when I switched to steam. BEST Gaming decision I ever made! I will never go back to that company.
I don’t know. Lots of hate to “Sony” because it’s always easy to point to the corporate, but it seems to me more of a dev ceo decision issue. It was all pre planned before launch , took it out, didn’t check what’s possible or not with psn, then now implementing them back , again without checking if there could be any potential issue. To me it looks like a major oversight at least twice by Arrowhead CEO.
think it would have been fine if they just didn't force old accounts to do it. if only new purchases needed it after the update. that would have given them time to delist it in countries where you can't have a psn account. why it was ever being sold in those countries to begin with is beyond stupid.

The backlash should have been anticipated even more considering this game likely attracted a lot of non-PlayStation gamers (especially XBOX gamers) that will balk at being forced to create an account for a console they don't want to own, several weeks after the launch of the game. So many companies making brand-tarnishing decisions in the last few years... 🤷♂ executive greed strikes again?

They should absolutely make that into a cape. It's a celebration of a time gamers were so strong together that they forced a Corporation to back down. This is what happens when you release a game that creates an army with players having each others back, and then screwing them.
I honestly think if the gamers returned their steam reviews back to pre-PSN, it'll show that the Gamers are strong together, but they also have the Developers back and they took their victory with dignity and unification to be an admirable force of good.

As soon as this happened i knew HD2 would never really recover. Even aside from just losing trust and not wanting to undo a refund, the gaming community can sometimes be very toxic and like you said, they will rally behind a negative campaign over a positive one most of the time.
"Cross save progress," Yeah, we bought the game on PS5 for my wife to play while I'm on PC. I logged on to my PSN account to see if I could play my character on the PS5 version but... Nope. then what is the point of linking the account?!

Don't change your review yet, they said they won't push the 30th may update, they didn't say PSN is off the table, 177 countries still delisted who they sold 3.5 million copies too.

Whether it is a shitty remaster, almost unplayable PC port, micro transactions snuck on day 1, censorship, nefarious localization, etc, do not eat the dick. Use your consumer power, don’t buy it, if you did and then realized how bad it was get a refund and make it known. Do not go back to complaining and buying the product. If you bought it, you support it. If you condone it, you support it. Stay strong, gamers.

First the Devs fought the community, then realized they were on the losing side. "If you can't spend 120 seconds to know you're fucking over 2/3 of the planet with PSN bullshit, why should I spend 120 seconds making a PSN account?" Arrowhead wanted this change just as much as Sony, their CMs were gleeful about it. They attacked fans, were passive aggressive and condescending, then complaining about the dumpster fire they started. And after all that they come back on bended knees groveling for an apology.
There are 2 CMs that need to be publicly fired by the CEO. And the rest need a few months off with no pay. Then, I will consider it apology accepted for their tone deaf response to the issue of their own creating. Then I will update my review.
sony shot itself in the arm, passed through and also hit arrowheads arm despite it being mostly ps fault. i guess it also passed through and hit stella blade's developers arm as well as psn messed them up too. Who would want to let sony publish their game when these two disasters happen, esp if sony shoots itself in the chest the next time, and it passes through breaking your game as well?
1. If this account linking was always going to happen then they shouldnt have sold it on steam to countries that cant use PSN.
2. PSN security is garbage and I suspect it could compromise my steam account if it gets hacked.

I'm one of those people who do not buy games that require thrid party accounts and/or launchers, no game is worth doing what corporations want like a sheep.
I think helldivers 1 peak was like 10 to 16k peak.
Even after the huge controversy these past few days player based never really changed. So I think.
They're going to do just fine after Sony's back peddling.
Saying that Sony took the game off Steam for those specified countries may not be true; there is no evidence that Sony did it.
I think that it was Valve that did it to help stop the bleeding that was Sony's AND Arrowhead's doing.
Remember all the people that say everything is inevitable and to just get over the micro-transaction or whatever other BS that is being rammed down people's throat? Do you not understand now that resistance is not futile? Yeah, without undoing the reviews, this process won't be successful. Stick AND carrot.

People celebrating this victory are short sighted. They’ve only DELAYED the policy, they’re going to implement it in June sometime. I hate Short Term Victories, I want Permanent, Long Term Victories.
Yep its already happening. They targeted Ghosts of Tsushima and other games instead. Yet there will likely not be any videos or outcry against it. Battle was won and the war was lost because people are too complacent.
They didn't backtrack they just targeted a different game after. They just pushed this on Ghosts of Tsushima. The battle might have been won but you all lost the war. Especially since no one is going to push back for Ghosts of Tsushima unlike Helldivers 2. And Sony will continue with other games too. You all need to pay more attention because in your complacency they slipped past you easily.

the funny part the whole warning banner of: Third party account required: PlayStation Network (Supports linking to a Steam account)
was there from the start in all shops in every country. so actually the buyer could have read that.
But in the Playstation Shop it stated PSN was optional for PC on the Helldivers shop page. AFTER the Backlash Sony changed the general FAQ on the Homepage but on the shop page it is still saying PSN is optional (it will probably soon change as well). Also there is no other Sony game that NEEDs PSN on PC. SO even with that Steam banner it was perfectly reasonable to assume it would not be mandatory!

My review stays negative until they deal with these abusive, prejudiced CMs. I'll edit my Steam review to reflect the issue at hand. Congratulations to my PCMR brothers and sisters for showing the console users how you reject corporate abuse, instead of defending it.
End of the day I dont think Arrowhead is guiltfree here. My helldivers 2 is on ps5 so thank god I don't need to revaluate what to do with my steam review. But lets think about this:
How did arrowhead code in the game the possibility of linking psn accounts withouth knowing you need to link psn accounts? Why did they not relate this info to customers in due time?
Did arrowhead just trip and accidentally hire the most white gamer hating community managers who imiadiately attacked gamers before going into hiding? Are they guiltfree if their employees essentially do very weird shit in their name?

It was said in the contract before you even bought the game that you will eventually need a PSN account to be able to play, everyone could read that
Now i get that it can be annoying to need a different account for something (PC players are very familiar with this and their multiple launchers..) but the way people handled this was pathetic, they cried and whined and downvoted like literal children until they got their way even tho they were the ones who were in the wrong here because the warning was there since the beginning but who bothers reading anything right?
Just because it got integrated later doesn’t change the fact that it was intended from the start
Better go and bomb it on Steam and refund the game...idc what people say, PC players can be some of the most annoying, arrogant, elitistic pricks in gaming, just seeing some of those "reviews" they left, smack talking PSN about unrelated things for no reason
I am not defending a corporation here, i am just saying that in this case, it wasn’t warranted imo, the only thing that Sony did that was dumb was delisting the game from all those countries
