How wonderful to hear a young person with this perspective! I’m 56 and wear mostly second hand and vintage. I could not care less about ‘trends’, although it’s really cool when my students comment on my clothes and ask wear I shop because I am accidentally trendy sometimes. My aesthetic is mostly Charlie’s Angels/Rhoda Morgenstern 70s chic. It’s what all the adults were wearing when I was a kid and makes me happy because every time I get dressed I am wearing some nostalgic item that brings joy.
I'm so happy to hear this, thank you for watching! I used to be a K-12 substitute teacher and always found it cool to share perspectives with my students about clothes/trends. Speaking of Charlie's Angels, I think Farrah Fawcett is an under-appreciated style icon!
I just love the reminder that we each as individuals have lived and consumed different/ similar things and using that to play into each owns style for the better . Especially dressing up .. is wonderful.
i’d say as someone in the uk it is super hard sometimes to find nice clothes in charity shops but there are super cheap ways to get really good quality second hand clothes!! my best resource is car boot fairs because i can get gorgeous vintage or designer items for 50p to £5
i loved this video! for me, ive had a hard time trying to find my personal style because it feels like i have conflicting aesthetics. if you could do a video on that that would be super helpful! again, this video was awesome!
this is super relatable!! I find myself wanting to dress like everything all the time. It's a matter of finding a balance between closet staples and fun statement pieces, great video suggestion ty! Something to deep dive into!!
Omg I totally forgot the mob wife trend, I heard of it like 2 days and never again, I think it was the fastest trend ever Btw great video and what a dive in nostalgia with 1D, insta… in France we have a show similar to What not to wear, i was watching it everyday after school I wanted to warn you about the low sound of your video, especially in the intro
Cool, liked and subscribed! I'm making myself a new tote bag out of some old black waxed denim and black brocade pants tomorrow. Might upcycle two linen dresses that look terrible on me into something else too! Looking forward to the upcoming content in your new series! :)
oh that's amazing and so smart!! you made me think of something I didn't mention-pieces made with natural fibers like cotton and linen are getting much more expensive to buy, especially given the mass production of synthetic clothing that's harming our planet, so upcycling and thrifting is a huge plus!!!! thank you so much for watching, I'm so excited to share more
I sent this to my sister for my 17 year old niece. I really respect what you are doing. I have a feeling you're from an Azorean family from New Bedford or Fall River Mass? Keep doing what you are doing. Wished I had kept my clothes from the early 90's made so much better than today.
I totally agree with everything! Tho I have to say fast fashion can be very convenient if you don’t have enough money for a 30€ hoodie and no thrift shops accessible. I mean for me it is possible to find good quality SHEIN clothes that I’ve had since 2019 and are still in pristine condition. We really bash brands like this but if it’s all you can afford it’s ideal
Right! The only problems when it comes to fast fashion are the unsafe and unjust pay, treatment, and working environment of the people who make the items, and also of people buy and throw out clothing with trends. If we're responsible and wear clothes what we like and not going with trends, the eliminates one of the problems. And I feel like now Individuality and having your own aesthetic and style is coming in right now as well
Yes to this! If you are able to hang onto your fast fashion clothes instead of disposing of it-it helps make a difference! I talked only briefly about the economic aspect, but folks who are on a fixed or limited income it may be their only option but it's likely they'll hold onto their clothing longer than the average consumers!! Thanks for watching!
@@kittykornprincess3856 absolutely! It’s evident that most influencers buy all those clothes for a single-wear and then toss them out or give them to thrift shops where they infiltrate them and then another cycle begins. We have to be more mindful on why we are buying from fast fashion and think before we shop!
@@sarahcreadir Exactly! Glad to find more people who think like this! Clothes are meant to keep us safe and healthy but they are also a form of self expression. It’s ok to treat yourself with a couple of expensive pieces if they are of value but for items made out of common materials there is not reason to over exaggerate

Completely agree that inspiration & points of reference are important but you can’t develop a personal style by only recreating outfits. Great video 👏
Thank you for watching!!
