    I have this jacket. Initially I didn't like the 10d fabric, it felt clammy compared to thicker fabric in other jackets. But over time I began to appreciate the light weight and versatility. It's essentially the same fabric as their sleeping bag, so with long sleeves it feels super soft and cozy. I also like to wear the jacket to sleep if temp drops too low. Now it's my favorite jacket!

    Thank you Justin, this is terrific. I learned a lot and didn't even realize all the custom options. This was very helpful.

    Perhaps it is time to put in my order. My Montbell 7oz down puffy is over 15 years old and still fabulous. However, the added benefits of hood, pockets, and synthetic fill in the Torrid may be worth it

    Justin, thanks for a great review. You helped me figure out I need one of these, but I’m gonna have to save up for a while to justify it. Cheers brother! 🤙🏽

    Great video! I love mine. Although I do wish I ordered a medium over a large. It’s a great jacket that I wear all the time even when not backpacking. Hands down the best insulated jacket. I’ve tried a lot of the expensive down jackets and this is my go to. I’ll eventually order another.

    I am caught between the Torrid and the Ghost Whisperer. Doing the PCT in 2024 and worried about warmth. So the comment about warmth calmed my worries about the Torrid. Both will work for most of trail but the Torrid pulls ahead for Washington.

      Having both, the torrid is warmer and the same weight. The GW gets smaller and should last much longer if packed frequently. I have both the EE jacket and pullover. The pullover is warmest.

      @@shamitoson thanks! Just pulled the trigger on the EE jacket. I got a tad larger pack, the ULA catalyst. It will not be fully compressed to a tiny ball just thrown into the top of the pack with a hardshell.
      I have plenty of room.

    I actually don't like the aesthetics of these jackets. To me it looks like someone is wearing a bag, with no baffles. I get that it's because its synthetic apex. But I just don't think it's a flattering cut for most peoples frames. Or it reminds me of a municipal worker's jacket or poncho or something? I don't know. It just doesn't do it for me.

      They are purely function over form. They perform amazingly well for being soo light. They do look like trash bags though. Strictly for the backcountry and not around town. I don’t think anyone likes the aesthetics.

    Ok so I'm 5'11", about 200lbs and have a 42" chest and 34" waist. Would you recommend medium or large? According to their size chart I'm a medium...but I figured asking is always better!

    Looking to get this jacket for my trips - tends to rain a ton here in northern Ontario especially in shoulder seasons, down just won’t do well in the event I get caught in a storm as always.

    • @GearPriority
      @GearPriority  2 года назад +1

      I think it's great but fits a different niche due to it's weight. More of an activewear jacket for cold temperatures.

    • @shamitoson
      @shamitoson 9 месяцев назад

      Nano air is an active piece. Torrent is much warmer when stationary.

    Hey Justin, how do you find the size guide on EE clothing?
    I took all my measurements and it says I'm a small, although all my normal/hiking clothes are either medium or large. Someone in the reviews said they ordered a small and they were 4" shorter and 35 lbs lighter. Don't want to get something shipped to Australia to find it too small and not able to return. Thanks!

    • @shamitoson
      @shamitoson 9 месяцев назад

      I find they run on the large size. Much more so than arctytx and a bit larger than Patagonia. Hope that helps.

    Wiggy's makes a jacket that is the same insulation and thick enough for Canada in winter. I have his jacket liner. Same jacket as this for $80 bucks I believe.

    • @GearPriority
      @GearPriority  2 года назад +1

      It really depends on the location and conditions! The Torrid is such a versatile jacket though that when I am uncertain, it's what I go to.

    what is the temperature for it?

    • @shamitoson
      @shamitoson 9 месяцев назад

      Without much else, 30s F. With a fleece underneath, very comfortable in the 20s. I’d say 10 warmer than the ghost whisperer. But not as long lasting if compressing frequency. That’s the downside of synthetic.
