  • Here we look at the synthetic EE Torrid Jacket which I will wear for hiking backpacking and wild camping adventure trips, I bought small as for me the small Copperfield was perfect, but in small the Torrid was too cosy

Trying to gauge how small it packs, could you do a quick vid on that?

I have a 7D Copperfield in medium (I'm 5'10" and 170lb) and I find it a generous fit. However, I do absolutely want to wear it over my UL down puffy - worn like this it cuts wind and thus reduces convective heat-loss. I've just completed a few hundred PCT miles with this combo and it's been brilliant.

Is that in camp or hiking? The combo wearing. I assume the former as less usual to wear down hiking. I get your point and tbf you probably have a lot more worldly experience than me. But in camp I'd have wind protection from shelter and probably wouldn't wear down walking.

That’s for in-camp. I love the weight, packability, and breathability of the Copperfield. I layer it with just a base layer, or with my base layer plus an Alpha 60 or 90 fleece, or with the base layer, Alpha fleece and down puffy, depending on conditions/circumstances. As you say I’d not want to hike in my down puffy. The fact that it’s a generous fit means it’s easy to mix and match with it always being the outer layer. I also agree with you that if I just wanted it for use with a base layer alone I would size down to a small.

great vlog... the only issue i have with this fill, is it can start rolling to the bottom of the jacket. this then becomes lumpy. well im a fat bugger lol

Hopefully it stays in place plus the belly lol so far no synthetic jacket had that happen

@@TonyHobbs the Decathlon ones are a little small I was between the XL and XXL being 6.3 and built like a more athletic Anthony Joshua I need the big sizes yet they make them so the belly is big if you get them to fit the shoulder, back, chest, arms, so it fits nice on the upper body you have to have a tent in the belly that requires trekking poles like an X mid tent ! Most average clothes are like this and fit similar like t shirts and base layers etc. I got the XL in the end and went for a bit tighter on the upper body to have a fitted fit on the belly
