Facts....I have 3 XR15 G6 Pros over a 35.4"L x 21.7"W x 20.9"H tank and i need crank it up to 80-85% before i get good enough numbers. Keep in mind, I have the narrow lens kit. Just disappointed with the price to par ratio.

@thecityreefer that's business you crank light intensity ansmd shorten life span. So within some years you upgrade. .

  • @kalamazoo_reefer

The light is your problem, as far as intensity is concerned. I run Radion G6 Pros on my tank. I can absolutely confirm that PAR readings are weaker than they should be, at a cost of $529 a pop, on G6 XR15’s. I am seeing much the same. At full intensity, I get about 250 PAR at the top of my aquascape. I have them on EcoTech’s own RMS mount. I’ve just got a standard WaterBox tank, nothing custom or super deep. Relying on light bouncing off the glass to achieve higher PAR, is a faulted strategy, if true, as every reefer’s tank is different. Also, they came out with that lens kit to increase the strength late in the product’s life cycle. Obviously not planned from the outset. They did it to solve the misstep of making a weaker intensity light and catching flak for it, and they expect reefers to pay for the cost of their faulted design approach. In short, it’s not a bad light, but it does lack in intensity, especially for the price point. You’re not crazy or wrong in your findings here. And regardless what Greg Carroll says, in the case of intensity, the light is the problem.

Thank you, I don't want to talk bad on any reefers, but many in the comments and forums can confuse other saying they get 350 pat at 35- 40% intensity. However they also have about 2-4 other light supplements to achieve that and depending what light they use the cost cam rocket.

Interesting. Not sure if user error but I have a waterbox 110. 4ft tank and my g5s give me 350 par at about the same depth at 70% (only have whites up to 30%).
Also with nutrients if you arnt testing weekly I would suggest doing so. Stability is key and your nitrate and phos are high. Sps color will suffer with too high of nutrients as well as too low

Could it be your flow? My SPS tank has an insane amount of flow and all my arcos have awesome polyp extension. The flow I have would never work for a mixed tank. I use a reef breeders photon with 250 - 500 par. I also naturally seem to have super low nutrients too. Good luck.

A mix reef is the hardest tank to keep truly happy. To many corals need something different. Personally i like to keep sps in its own tank. I have never had an issue with soft and LPS together but the flow tends to be the hardest part to deal with once you add SPS.

Sps need stability more then anything, Alk being the big dog but everything needs to be stable and rock solid for them to grow and thrive. They don't like much change and they take forever to get back into their routine after a change happens. Something I've learned is when having issues with sps its just natural to wonder what's wrong in there now but the reality is it could be perfect at that moment but Something 2 weeks back like a big alk swing or salinity change etc could've happend and it's just now showing its face. So never leave out things that may have happend before the the time you notice an issue

@KentuckyReef I'll go with that, if were talking overall levels, PH is plays a huge role but the swings is more of what im referring too, ph don't seem to cause as much as an I'll effect as alk if a major change occurs. As far as running high or low alk it isn't nearly an issue as long as it's stable and the corals are used to it if your said 12 dkh was to drop to 10 or 9 overnight it's gonna be a hard to reverse problem. Doesn't mean certain death always but can cause some serious problems

The light is not your problem. Way too many successful hobbyists using that light. Based on what I’m seeing, you would benefit from adding the high intensity lens kit. Personally I feel that those light shades are the stupidest product that a Radion owner can add. The Radion performance relies on banking that spread off the glass. If you don’t like, want, or need the extra spread, the high intensity lens kit will be a better option. Also look for a SPS mentor in your area as you can learn a lot more from one voice rather than sifting through many voices. Good luck.
