My god lads !!! I've literally just bought myself a great gaming laptop amd this game. THIS MISSION IS WHAT IM DREAMING ABOUT EVERY NIGHT HEHEHE epic video guys, love all the chat and how you filmed it. Why on earth ANYONE thinks flight sims are slow and dull and hard work I just don't know!! When I see missions like this it's what I always dreamed of playing as a kid for many years. I even played il2 1946 when it was new but my pc barley managed 25-30 fps with settings on medium!!! 😂 Now I can put everything to very high and ultra with every effect on. I only wish I could fly with you guys or at least find friends to play with like this. Wish me luck!! See you in the skies 😊
I appreciate the way you fly these missions as a human trying to survive, rather than as an arcade gamer trying to blow things up with wild abandon like he has nine lives.
One of the things that I liked the most when flying the sim was attacking a Combat Box of four-engined bombers. I imagined the adrenaline rush of the Luftwaffe pilots facing such a formation, intimidated by the cadre of those formations. Thanks for recreating it again for me.
The Zonk mod has been developed far enough that combat box interceptions work now. It's actually that good already, that players cannot screw up the AI at all :)
Il2 original fan here from back during its release. This makes me miss my crew and my missions. ~JGI./2. I had some of the best pilots and faced some amazing talent. We had to play COD just to unwind from our runs. Good times
Also - I just love that you have an Australian as part of your regular team - the relentless, sarcastic shitting on everyone at every opportunity is so authentic. I read a British pilots memoir of his time flying Spitfires on night ops. Described a night he was on his patrol when - "Suddenly, in the coarsest language i'd ever heard, a Mosquito night fighter pilot told me that I was a terrible pilot with no awareness of my surroundings and that if I didn't impress him with my flying skills that i'd be dead in moments. I took what is known as 'violent evasive action' in my Spitfire and thought I was clear, until I heard yet again the most vulgar description of my skills as a pilot and that this mysterious bastard was still on my tail and that 'You're a f***ing disgrace of a pilot, no wonder you need an empire to win this war for you'. The Australian tang of an accent was so utterly obvious, and combined with their exceptionally direct language gave me a rough idea of which Squadron to have the IO question regarding this encounter. The IO later informed me that apparently no one on this Squadron could remember such an incident but that it was entirely obvious to him that everyone in the room knew even the finest details, even those that I had not revealed".
39:18 r.i.p to Killpact and Moostie. The final landing was the funniest moment, he just had to turn off the landing gear to put the plane on the ground lol.
There was an instance of a Chinese-American fighter pilot closing in on a Me-410 and exploded after a short burst of the 13mm machine gun. A very rare event for a rear gunner to get a kill.
Goddamn i cant believe this is 1946. Last i played 6 years or so ago. Really reminds me of the OLD Battelfields server days on Hyperlobby and the likes.
Marcom blames the bad landing on the one round he took during combat. He receives several awards and is featured in a propaganda film. Two weeks later he lands at a liberated French airfield under repair and spends the remainder of the war at a POW camp in Idaho.
They kept it well trimmed back then :P in all honesty this game is so old amd yet holds so well still. I am just getting back into it. BTW if you find the grass hilarious, wait to see the trees close up...
You guys never hear of the RAF Tiger Force of Bomber Command??! Lancaster's fitted with extra long range fuel tanks that could deal with flying to the Pacific no problem, is so including raids over mainland Japan from the Mirianas Island chain. They could also haul the weight of the atomic bombs, Little Boy and Fat Man too. The main problem had compared with the USAAF's Boeing B29 Superfortress was considerably inferior altitude and top speed/cruise speed performance. Mark Felton seriously knows his subject, and while he may not be an aircraft expert or specialist aviation historian, he was nonetheless very well aware that attempting to drop the atomic bombs on Japan with Lancasters was very problematic. Have respect for the man! What he does on RUclips is great!
What happened to the escort fighters? Is it a bug or were they engaging other aircraft then came upon you guys later. It seemed like you guys could do multiple runs on the bombers without any trouble with the escort until later.
You are correct, the escorts that were there were busy with other friendly aircraft. As soon as german aircraft show up, all escorts that are in range will engage them. They will not stay with the bombers at all. Because of that, there have to be many waves of escorts constantly coming in and there are. As I said in the video, it's supposed to be early '44, the later seen masses of escorts weren't yet a thing then. It's only realistic that there are no escorts present from time to time.
@@Fishyyy : Absolutely. In the real missions, even in early '44, there were far more bombers in the sky, 2 or 3 hundred, and the escorts couldn't cover them all at once. Finally the typical German plan was to distract the escorts with single engine fighters first, and then send the destroyers in afterwards. Sometimes it even worked...
Can someone if convenient explain the Graphics Extender? I have the IL2 but the Ultimate Edition released back in 2013 And although I have done the odd patch upgrade but I am not that familiar with modding or adding mods to the game assuming the Ultimate version would except them in the first place. I use my I7 intel laptop with 16 meg ram with and ext 32in monitor and a DAW for music composition more than I do flight sims or general gaming. I used to do considerable gaming but since my marriage end ten years I lost interest due loosing a lot of my studio, computers and other possessions and my priorities were forced to change my circumstances changed but I still occasionally over the last few years indulge in the basic IL2 fight sim as mentioned above. I think I the last upgrade I did was the std ver 4.15 patch. The graphics I am seeing in this clip look very different and enhanced to what I am used to seeing on my version.
We can't use BAT for videos. Pretty much everything in it is broken in some way. Stuff has to work in singleplayer, multiplayer and replays to be viable for video production. Nearly nothing in BAT functions that properly.

I recently watched Military Aviation History's video on the Bf 110 and how the Luftwaffe kept trying to find a role for it. Clearly it did it's most productive work as a night fighter. This got me thinking, in daylight bomber interception missions is there really anything a Bf-110 can do that an Fw 190 can't do ten times better??
I guess it could carry more rockets and had more range. I get what you mean, though. Yeah, the 190 is the king of bomber interception when it comes to 109, 110, 190 and even 210 & 410.
@@Fishyyy Have you tried the 109 Gustav with three 30mm Kannone yet? Here is a mission to tryout: HE 219 intercepting the heavy bombers in daylight. It out performed the Mosquito in ALL ways at night hence the RAF policy of orbiting German airfields an attacking anything taking off or trying to land. Hence the' Bandits of the air' label applied to them by the Nachtjager. So you should be able to cause some serious damage to the bomber boxes with six kannon forward firing plus the schrage muzik. n
@@tulyar1043 they never would have used the 219 like that. Its ability to carry radar made it too valuable to waste as a daylight fighter. Sort of like how the Luftwaffe found out ground controlled interception at night with FW-190s not fitted with radar was just as ineffective
That is simply not true. First off, we nearly always hit. Secondly, you need to differentiate. "You" is not fair. There were four different pilots in this mission and MY aim was FINE. One kill every pass is simply utopian, especially with our reworked bomber damage model. You pretty much have to engage from strange angles, when you attack such a combat box, because from straight head on you are an easy target. And NO, you have NEVER engaged such a box, neither has anyone else outside my crew. No one else has the ability to even create them like this. One kill every pass? Okay, download the mission and get your eight kills, good luck.
Trying to go at normal angles in a us heavy bomber was suicidal. You need to attack at an angle to oblique for the top twin .50 cal turret to track you. Not to mention the absolute murderous fire from 10 or 15 .50 caliber machine guns. Each tracer you saw was 5 rounds fired from those .50s ( the tracer is there to help the gunner walk in his shots ). Each individual bullet weights in at 700 grains and is traveling at Mach 1 or better. Gives you an idea of the absolute shit storm your trying to get through
