Good video, thanks. I have been using JFZ for a while and I love them. The video channel with George is a fantastic addition to the books. I am also using Genki as I have a Japanese teacher and that is the book she uses. Genki moves at a faster pace than JFZ but WOW, the explanations are terrible. The big plus for JFZ is the explanations are very clear and are further strengthened by the video lessons. For absolute beginners JFZ is brilliant. My only criticism is the hiragana is introduced very slowly, but that is a minor gripe. If you are just starting out JFZ is the book for you.
JFZ is excellent. People complaining that it's too slow have way too many needs. No book will be at the perfect pace for you, and imagine if there were such a book, do you think it would be perfect for everyone else? Language books are like hand grenades: close enough is good enough. That said, if you simply take three days to learn hiragana, you can learn it just as thoroughly as going through all of JFZ book 1. The same goes for katakana and Book 2 of JFZ. However, you're getting more than just hiragana and katakana in books 1 and 2, so it might still be worth your time going through both books. And let's not forget, as you say, that Trumbley has a great RUclips channnel that will help keep you interested and explain even more. Good review.
Thank you for sharing your study tips!! I’m teaching Japanese on my RUclips channel. So I need to learn study method from your video😄 I’ve sub👍 Thank you from Japan 🇯🇵
This came at such a nice time! I’ve been teetering back and forth with Genki and feeling stuck, I think I’ll give this textbook a try instead. Thank you!
I started off with Genki in college many years ago, then recently I started to study Japanese again. I went with the whole JFZ (Japan From Zero) set and currently on book 4. My opinions so far is that the book is fun and easy to read. I would study a lesson a day (usually 12-13 chapters per book) and I’d say it’s very beginner friendly. I would highly recommend the set to beginners especially those who are self-studying. FYI: It’s slow at first, but if you are patient, you will get there. Also, there are some errors, but there is a pdf file that someone made that corrects the mistakes. I recently purchased Genki 1 and 2 hoping to gain more advanced and/or a different lesson approach, so I kinda went backwards haha. I lowkey have an addiction on collecting Japanese books to read and study lol
Oo! I really like this review 🤓 I've been debating whether or not to dabble in Japanese with this book & your explanations have really tipped the scales for me (in its favor). Thank you!
Sorry but I don't even want to comment on the content of the video, because the energy you give off alone is so good that Im watching this video at 5 am fully hooked and my ears glued to every word you say. Sorry Im not english but you get the point WOW Best review I have ever watched, 10 out of 10 would watch again and recommend to my friends and my pet dog, Love it
I've been using Genki for a little while, but I've been looking for an alternative since I'm self studying. Would this book still be useful if I already know hiragana and katakana?
Some people find it annoying that the book doesn't use hiragana completely until the end- so take that as you will :). I like the explanations in this book, it makes the concepts seem less intimidating than Genki ~
Thank you for this review! I've been considering diving into Japanese, and this is the book I was thinking of referring to! I'm definitely leaning more towards giving it a shot now ^-^
Nice review. I found out about these books through internet video of book author. This book is not the only one, there are other more advance series too. I was really not sure if these were the best resources. But this book series look very attractive. I might order all of these books, just need to see a complete review of all the books.
Just started Japanese/kanji from zero a few months ago and I love it. Most other books, like you said about genki, were too academic. This is a great series and I can't wait to get to book 2 and 3
Thank you so much for making this video! Also i was wearing headphones and at the start your voice was playing in my ear and i had to double check that nobody was there 😂
OMG!!! I have been waiting forever for someone else to say what I have been thinking about Genki! Definitely taking your recommendation and purchasing the JFZ books. Thanks for showing the examples. Great and thorough video.
I got the korean version for it and I am loving it so much. The grammar, where I have so much difficult it's so easier with this book, and I was wondering what number I should get for JFZ since I already have N5 and I would be studying N4. Very useful. Now I know I need to start maybe from JFZ 2 or 3? Thank you 🥰
Hi miss Study Berry I enjoyed your video I am on JFZ 5 and I use George's videos on YT. however could you give some advice even YT videos for listening/speaking practice, this is something that is missing from all of these study books the audio that comes with them is purely based on the text and not natural language practice
This is a great video. I have the book and it is very good. You will build a foundation from this. Nice job. (Just thought I'd mention, your video had some sound issues for me) I look forward to checking out more of your videos :-)
I downloaded a bunch of pdfs of different language books and Genki and the others came off very overwhelmingl for me too as a self studier. JF0 looked way more accessible to me and the youtube video accompaniment a real plus. I started 8 months ago and I started book 3 a few weeks ago. I like the slow introduction of hiragana but I think its a little slower than needed. You finish hiragana by the end of the book and I was really proficient with them at least half way through. But thats not a big deal for me. I already know about 300 kanji and when I do the exercises I use the kanji I know.
I got JFZ Kanji & love it! Unfortunately i got 2 other books which aren't as good- (not JFZ) ans I regret it so much 😭😭 will have to wait 3 months to get JFZ 1 😭😭
For someone who already memorized hiragana and can read/pronounce do you think the book would move too slow or is it still worth the investment? (Sorry I didn’t see this was already answered in another comment thank you)
I think it's great for anyone who feels overwhelmed by other textbooks like Genki or Minna No Nihongo. The approach is simpler and slower, so it was really helpful for me. Now I'm more comfortable using other materials. If you're not sure, I recommend checking out the youtube channel and watching some of the videos to get an idea of what the contents are like! :)

I used his kana from zero book before jfz, that is my reccomendation for the hiragana and katakana

We are the same with Genki. I was overwhelmed. So I bought that Japanese from zero 1. Waiting for it to arrive. I hope its really good.😊
How did you get on with it?
So how was your experience with JFZ 1? Because so far I read all 3 of them now. :D
@@venomm4563 I've just started book 1. Doing it in my spare time not every day and enjoying it. How is it 3 books deep?
@@tomhay2315 It's really good. You can actually say a lot of things after all 3 books and have a small conversations on certain topics.
@@venomm4563 that's great. How often did you study them and what sort of routine did you go with? Chapter by chapter or flash cards etc ?
Thank you for sharing your study tips!!

JFZ 1-3 is like N5 JLPT. N4 is JFZ4-5.
@@venomm4563 thank you!!!
Hi 👐
Good vídeo. It looks like a good book for absolute begginers like me.
Oh and I love your look.
Have a good day.
I really like Japanese From Zero:)
oficially in love
Wow - what a good review. Nice , thorough job!
Thank you so much! Good luck with your channel :)

Does this book teach you colors and numbers?
Yes

I have genkie minna no nihongo and JFZ. genki is objectively the worst one. JFZ is the best. minna is second but damn does it move quickly.
is kana from zero good too?
Honestly if you have the JFZ book 1 & 2, Kana from zero is kind of obsolete. They teach Hiragana in book 1, and Katakana in book 2.
my pages isn't matching with your pages. Should I be worried? I have the 7.0 upgrade.
My book is the old version, so there will probably be some changes. But content wise it should be nothing to worry about 😁
@@studyberry9029 Yeah, that’s what I was thinking lol. Thanks :)

Are you still studying Japanese language?
I love this series. Im towards the end of book 5 now🤍
The video is good, but I can hear constant beeping whenever there’s talking. I can’t finish the video
