I try to learn a little of language before going on holiday. I learnt German and French at school. I learnt a little Italian before going to Italy and a little Polish before going to Poland. We plan to go on holiday to Japan in a couple of years, so I have just started learning Japanese through RUclips and duolingo.
I think Japanese grammar is not that complicated. But the speaking part really takes a long journey. I mean you can easily read Japanese sentences, but when you write or speak, it's a different case. It's harder than you thought it'll be. I suggest if you are practicing a foreign language, you converse it with a native speaker a lot.
Hi! I’m Nick and I’m a trainee of professional Japanese teacher! I found this video and I just wanted to say you’re amazing because even if you think it’s not enough, but studied all hiragana in three week and you actually speak and you can also introduce yourself real quick plus, you can have a conversation with native speaker. That’s very impressive!! You got me an another subscriber here and I’m looking forward to see how you’re gonna study :)!!
Omg!!! I cracked up when you said "si" and then quickly realized it was Spanish! I confuse Japanese and Spanish all the time. Especially "demo" and "pero". They're surprisingly similar, aren't they? ^^ I really enjoyed this video!! Thank you for sharing your journey with us!
This was so inspiring. I haven't been super structured with my Japanese language learning but I am inspired to get a little more organized with my language learning.
Bro I would have crapped myself trying to talk to a real life person, but ur teacher was so sweet towards u, I nearly cried lol. U became so good in 4 weeks, I think I speak for everyone when I say, I'm impressed.💐💐💐
The only way you can get good is to make mistakes! I love to have conversations even when I’m an absolute beginner - it can be frustrating to make mistakes, but use that as fuel to keep you going 💪🏻
I decided to learn japanese in this quarantine as well, sometimes I want to give up, it's not easy but maybe is I was not organized and didn't use the right resources, thank you for sharing your process, it motivates me to keep going! :D

With アメリカに vs アメリカで, で is used when you're talking a bit more about where an action takes place. コンビニで水を買いました。(I bought water at the convenience store.) に functions a little more like giving additional information, but can pretty much cover all the bases. アメリカに住んでいます。(I live in America.) When in doubt, use に, but you'll get more familiar of the nuance as you grow more familiar with the language. There's a similar thing with は and が. Don't worry too much about it, because you'll be understood even if you say the wrong one.
@@victorialim I figured you may have learned it already 😅 With は and が, use は when it's the main topic, and が if it's a detail about the topic. が is also usually used when there is a は omitted. (私は)猫が好きです。 I like cats But naturally, you'd say, 猫が好きです。This is a case of the ommited は

@@victorialim I know, I mean in schools which is the option they have to study. For example in Mexico (I'm mexican) we have the "option" to learn english as a second lenguage. I thought in Brazil it would be spanish since almost all their neighbours are countries where people speak spanish
Okay but that is extremely impressive! Awkward gaps of silence when speaking to a tutor is extremely normal and to have such little amount of gaps on your call is extremely impressive! I hope your studies have continued well from one language learner to another great job :)
Thank you! And two things to note: 1. The teacher did a great job at facilitating conversation and 2. It’s also the powers of editing! I cut out the parts that were too boring to watch. Not everything you see in the video is what I did (the call was 1h long so I had to cut it down) :)
I can relate to the part when your speaking a new language and proceed with answering with another language. That was so funny. I happened to experience that when I spoke to my aunt in Malay casually and proceed to answer her in Chinese naturally during our conversation.
I’m here because I still can’t decide between Korean and Japanese so I’ve been browsing different experiences with the language and many different learning processes 😰
Either one you learn it’ll become easier to learn the other in terms of speaking and listening as the grammatical structure is the same. However learning to read and write is easier in Korean as the alphabet is really really simple.

What a big achievment you made in just a month! It's really astonishing how you became able to speak naturally and pronunce each word almost perfectly. It took me much much more time to get to that level in English. Keep it up!
Oh my goodness, your video has so many helpful tool and tips! This is probably the most helpful video I’ve seen on how to learn Japanese, especially for those of use who just need to inspiration getting started!
Glad to hear you're starting to learn Japanese, it's a really fun language! In my opinion, being able to write it is the biggest hurdle, so don't feel bad if you don't have hiragana and katakana down yet! As long as you can recognize the characters, you'll be fine! 頑張って! Just a small tip: I noticed you used わ as the topic marker in your sentences. While it is pronounced 'wa', the 'ha' character is used to mark the subject. は Same thing when you used え as a location marker. It's pronounced 'e' but the 'he' character is used. へ Often, people just use に anyway. And once again with お. It's said 'o' but 'wo' is used. を
i’m watching this now as my 1 month of studying japanese is approaching and my learning is exponentially decaying but this motivated me a LOT more to speak often so thank you!!! you were so amazing at it at one month of learning🥺

It was also very helpful to see you speak with the native speaker! Thank you for your effort 💞
personally I think learning on our own is better sometimes, It worked for me with english. (I'm a spanish speaker) I know I still have things to improve but I can read, listen and speak english with others and having friends from around the world has helped me a lot. I've been trying to learn korean and japanese for a year but I haven't gave them the necessary time. I also love learning lenguages, since I had access to internet when I was a child I usually spent my time learning phrases in different lenguages, french, italian, english, irish, but I been more interested in Japanese and Korean and lately chinese. So cute you take your note in spanish btw. I take mine in engish while studing from spanish and english hahaha I hope by this time you've been improved a lot ♥ I hope to do it by the end of this year, I neither have a specific goal but I want to be able to watch programs without subs at least XD

I say that I'm learning Japanese, but I'm actually still learning all my languages lol
I was born in Mexico so I understand Spanish
But before I could master Spanish, I moved to the U.S. and had to learn English
So I'm struggling with English and Spanish (I don't have my own language lol)
On top of that, I've been learning Japanese for over a year and a half, and I still suck lol
ON TOP OF THAT, I started took college courses (even though I'm still a high schooler)
But I like challenges, so it's all good :)
Sorry for long message lol
I try to learn a little of language before going on holiday. I learnt German and French at school. I learnt a little Italian before going to Italy and a little Polish before going to Poland. We plan to go on holiday to Japan in a couple of years, so I have just started learning Japanese through RUclips and duolingo.
i’m learning korean
Honestly: bless your heart for being chill in the title.
This 'conversation with a Japanese speaker' is the cutest thing I've seen in a long time. Like, you're doing so well
this has inspired me to try harder during quarantine to learn japanese!! thank u :))
also when u said "si" I laughed out louddd
😅😅 that happens a lot... even when I speak in English lol
When she’s say (si) ??
As someone who mixes up English and Spanish (both are my main languages and I stink at both), I felt that😅
I think Japanese grammar is not that complicated. But the speaking part really takes a long journey. I mean you can easily read Japanese sentences, but when you write or speak, it's a different case. It's harder than you thought it'll be. I suggest if you are practicing a foreign language, you converse it with a native speaker a lot.
I think Its same for every language. speaking part is the hardest part
not easily when therws kanji😂😂
Literally me, I learn Japanese and French
My French reading and writing isn’t so bad but speaking... I’ll pass 😭
Im okay with the listening and reading, but I have issues with the writing

Thank you so much! I don't really foresee myself doing too many new Japanese videos, just fyi, but your comment meant a lot :) Thank you!
Omg!!! I cracked up when you said "si" and then quickly realized it was Spanish! I confuse Japanese and Spanish all the time. Especially "demo" and "pero". They're surprisingly similar, aren't they? ^^
I really enjoyed this video!! Thank you for sharing your journey with us!
YAS finally someone who understands! for some reason I say "como" a lot too hahah. I sometimes mix "etto" and "ehhh" as well (as the filler sounds)
I barely know any Spanish so once I get pretty good at Japanese it’s gonna be less confusing
@@sootekko as a spanish speaker, i am pretty confused at Japanese xD
oh my gosh i also get the two mixed up all the time!! i am learning spanish in school and always mix up my japanese with spanish 😅

You can do it!
Same ☹️
i’ve been studying japanese for a couple years with a combination of university classes + selfstudy. im impressed you were able to have a conversation after one month of studying, even if it was simple 😊これからも頑張ってね!応援しています
language learning with netflix is actually so freacking cool oml
it is !! i use it to learn a lot ; and it also lets you slow vids down so it helps when i watch saiki kusuo no sai-nan it helps a lot and i learn a lot more
Yeah, but it would be much cooler when paired with something like Yomichan (Japanese).
its been 1 years i've been studying japanese to work in japan, but my skill is not gonna improve well, but after i watched this videos. my spirit is boost up because i see ur positivity vibes doing learning japanese even u dont have any goals. Thank you
With アメリカに vs アメリカで, で is used when you're talking a bit more about where an action takes place. コンビニで水を買いました。(I bought water at the convenience store.)
に functions a little more like giving additional information, but can pretty much cover all the bases. アメリカに住んでいます。(I live in America.)
When in doubt, use に, but you'll get more familiar of the nuance as you grow more familiar with the language. There's a similar thing with は and が. Don't worry too much about it, because you'll be understood even if you say the wrong one.
Thank you! I now understand the difference between でand に, but が and はare admittedly more challenging for me still haha. I’ll keep learning tho!!
@@victorialim I figured you may have learned it already 😅 With は and が, use は when it's the main topic, and が if it's a detail about the topic. が is also usually used when there is a は omitted.
(私は)猫が好きです。
I like cats
But naturally, you'd say, 猫が好きです。This is a case of the ommited は
oh my god I loved this so much. I studied Japanese 13 years ago for 2 years. I started studying again in August and I am so grateful you put this out there. I loved listening to your conversation.
I’m currently self-studying Japanese and I’m sadly doing a slow progress 😅 but I feel really inspired after watching this! I’m very amazed with your skills and I feel jealous! LOL
Thank you for the tips! I feel like I could really use them a lot.
Also, that woman (tutor) looks so kind and patient :) I just really find her nice and warm.
I’ll continue to do my best and study harder!

All the best with studying English! I would love to learn Portuguese one day :)
@@victorialim yukata! Finally someone who gets it
Can I ask you which is the second lenguage to learn in Brazil, is it spanish?
@@SI-tl1zb In Brazil they speak Portuguese!
Hahaha problems when you speak multiple languages
For only learning for 4 weeks your Japanese is honestly really good to me
I’m here because I still can’t decide between Korean and Japanese so I’ve been browsing different experiences with the language and many different learning processes 😰
Either one you learn it’ll become easier to learn the other in terms of speaking and listening as the grammatical structure is the same. However learning to read and write is easier in Korean as the alphabet is really really simple.
Same here
KPOP motivates me to start learning Korean, but it's the same with anime >.<
I can't decide

What a big achievment you made in just a month! It's really astonishing how you became able to speak naturally and pronunce each word almost perfectly. It took me much much more time to get to that level in English. Keep it up!
Your English is fantastic, can't tell you're not a native speaker! All the best with your studies too :)

Oh my goodness, your video has so many helpful tool and tips! This is probably the most helpful video I’ve seen on how to learn Japanese, especially for those of use who just need to inspiration getting started!
I’m glad it was useful, all the best on your own journey! :)
Same thing when you used え as a location marker.
I wish I could do this but now I’ve stared online school and I’m really busy now :(
Life is long! You can always do it when you have more time:) and there’s always ways to make time if you really want to do it!

Ahhhhhhhhh. The amount of pride but pain I feel knowing u learned so much in 1 month.
I started learning it again about 6 months ago (granted I was still going to college) but I managed to make it a habit and studied mindlessly everyday, just taking in words. Currently I finally have a summer break so I hope to structure my learning now.... But I have no idea how to really organize anything 😂😂 but this video has helped me be a little more decisive and less scared or hesitant to just... structure what I'm doing. It's true, that it can be so I overwhelming but you did so great!!!
Well done. I have been learning Japanese for years and yes it is a hard language. I agree just absorbing yourself in the language via films and TV does help a lot. Keep it up
This is the video I needed 💜💜💜 I've been thinking about learning Japanese for years but I had to learn other languages for the different jobs I've done... Now in quarantine I need to learn German but this video has given me high hopes that after German I'll be able to start to focus on this quick guide.
