"Manga endings might always end the same. However, if it comes to life. Neither you or I are mere readers. We are writers. We can change the ending." - Gintoki Sakata, Gintama
It’s amazing how the comedy of Gintamano Bay holds up even years later, and i think it’s due to not only how the show knows when to take itself seriously, but also how different character dynamics have different types of comedy. It means that the show can always keep things fresh so you never get bored of the humour.
Every now and then I rewatch the whole show just because it's so entertaining and it never gets boring. This is the only anime that I ever rewatched besides hxh and even then I reread the manga rather than watching the anime
Gintama can be VERY hit or miss, but when it hits, it hits like the finest cheese. I honestly love Gintama. It does take some investment as it goes through all kinds of odd moments and experiments, with even Sorachi just outright saying either through the characters or himself, that a trope is too repeated or halfassed or boring, with the main characters stopping an arc at the first couple of pages, only to shit on Sorachi and his lack of creativity. When the action and drama hits, it hits, brother. Sorachi makes A LOT of promises, and usually delivers. That's how good this is.
I still think its possible for Gintama to be adapted into a video game but the only studio I trust to do it is RGG Studios that do the Yakuza games like you mentioned. Any gintama and yakuza fan can see that RGG is kind of showing us they can pull it off. They're basically teasing us this point. Yakuza takes place in Kabukicho for a lot of the series which is where Gintama takes place. Yakuza as a series has some similarity to Gintama with its fun over the top side quests or SoL eps in Gintama and a serious main plot. RGG already has some experience in making anime games with Fist of the North Star so its not like this will be their first anime although FOTNS and Gintama are 2 completely different series. But the biggest one is that RGG just made a Yakuza spinoff game remake that literally takes place during the Edo Period with a lot if not all the cast being historical figures which is all part of Gintama. If RGG is not perfect studio to do Gintama justice in gaming, idk what other studio can.
I had Majima/Okita's theme from Ishin is surprisingly close to the vibe of Gintama. I sometimes struggled to separate the characters in Ishin and gintama while I played it. I found it especially hilarious how Katsura was on "stand-by" a the beginning of Ishin. Def one of my favourite gags from the anime.
One of the best animes I'd ever accidentally stumbled across and still at my number one. It just hit that sweet spot with strongs characters for me. When I began it, I figured it was just the funny haha comedy show but as soon as the Mitsuba arc happens, it absolutely knocked the wind out of me. So much done in 2 episodes that other long running shounen fail to do in 80: Make me care about the characters
I’m exactly 3 minutes 8 seconds into this video and just have to say I’m so glad to see someone make a video and love Gintama as much as I do. I have watched a metric shit ton of anime, its my favorite type of media to consume and I watch waaay more of it than any western media, and out of the countless anime I’ve watched if Gintama is not my favorite all time anime, it’s easily in my top 3. It has everything, it can be badass battles, honest, smart, I’ve been touched and borderline teared up, and the best part is it is the funniest anime ever, which I think hurts it overall since people don’t take comedy seriously, but goddamn, for a show that is written in a whole other culture about Samurai in ancient Japan with alien overlords, it has made me laugh my ass off, the only other anime that comes close (and it’s a distant second) is Konosuba. Now I know it’s a fairly well known anime, but I’ve always been surprised that it isn’t loved by everyone, as it should be. Again, I feel like people ignore it because it’s a “comedy anime” but it’s so much more, it’s all the other things I mentioned and “the best, funniest comedy anime”. I mean, most of the characters are based on real historical people in ancient Japan!! I’m not even sure how you’re making this video, is it 6 hours long? I think that would be the only way to truly do this show Justice. Now to finish watching your video.
The robot maid arc where they ride into final battle to a dollar store rocky theme acknowledging the fact was one of the most hilarious things I've ever witnessed. Gintama is god-tier.
I finally just started Gintama. I was avoiding it until I had many animes/mangas/and general knowledge of Japanese history and culture before diving into it. I'm glad I waited. In addition, many people think that "comedy does not translate." Although many jokes still go above my head, I am amazed at how funny has been for me. I'm only 50 episodes in right now. So far it has been much better than expected. Back in their heyday, I used to be outright obsessed with what I called the "3 S's" (Simpsons, South Park, and Seinfeld.) The *only* thing those three shows have in common (besides being comedies) is that all three have relatively weak first (and even second) seasons. This tends to apply to almost any comedic show I have ever seen. Thus considering that Gintama season 1 exceeded my expectations, and that many people I trust completely (such as this channel) speak so highly of the later seasons, I am really looking forward to what's for come!
To be fair, I don't think Katsura is a hypocrite. He doesn't hate aliens - he just wants Edo shogunate to stop bowing down to the amanto and catering to their every demand. Katsura never shown that he discriminates against aliens. In one episode he risks his life to save that purple Prince alien thing. I think he is a good guy through and through
Oguri shun playing gintoki in the live action was actually a joke in the anime. Anime gintoki says several times that oguri shun should play him in the live action. That's why him being a cooler gintoki is kind of an inside joke
I'm probably going to enjoy every single bit of this franchise in whatever form of media it comes in. Loli never steers us wrong with his recommendations and great videos.
you may have revealed your Gintoki body pillow, pretending that's the most embarrassing, weeby thing you own. but we know you got worse, the highschool katana collection, show it.
Gintama was a hidden gem when I discovered it. I tried to explain to my friends how he's basically the deadpool of Shounen but that's still underselling it.
Samurai Heart is incredible, but Shura and Donten are my favs. And Togenkyo Alien. Honestly, it has so many banger OPs and EDs that it's hard to just pick a couple.
I like your fav three very much, but for DOES I prefere KNOW KNOW KNOW than Shura, and I also love some (most?) of Spyair, my top three being I Wanna Be (TV op), Wadachi (The Final ed), and Genjou Destruction (Be Forever Yorozuya insert song). My Top 10 list contains also Wonderful Days, Glorious Days, and Hana Ichi Monme.
Gintama is the goat indeed. The comedy, the serious, the sad moment is well balanced. The interaction between the characters are also so well-written with a very deep build-up, it don't feel forced at all.
This is nuts to see in my recommended as i just finished Gintama about a month ago now and it is still living in my head rent free. Not only my favorite anime of all time but it's just one of my favorite things ever. Characters, story, humor, message, etc just feels so unique and alive as well as just appealing to my admittedly very strange tastes and left an insane impact on me from the year and a half I spent watching it. While I got into the series pretty quickly, around the first ten episodes or so, I do get why it's a bit of a hurdle for some to get into as comedy is difficult to commit to but man, I'll always think people are missing out when they drop it. It's just a brilliant series. Good video and glad to see more Gintama videos on RUclips because there isn't nearly as much as other series.
Example of a Gintama joke that almost murdered me. After the whole series Hijikata easting Mayonnaise The first screen of him in the genderbent arc ... I died. They didnt even need to say it 🤣
Well sure, it's roughly the same year (although it's not mentioned), the alien invasion, I mean, some of the historic figures of that period are quite many characters (with just slightly changed names but it's easy to recognize most of them like Shinsengumi's command officers), and there are some historic events mentioned as well. Americans became aliens, that's all that changed. Although... I'm not sure if it's any change: for Edo Period Japanese people Westerners could be exactly like aliens from space.
The REAL crossover shonen fight is Saitama vs Bobobo The guy who never loses (except against mosquitos) vs the guy who never makes sense and can rewrite reality for a joke
Duuuuuuuude, probably my favorite of the Big 3. Every so often I wake up and wonder when the next chapter comes out only to be reminded that the series has wrapped up. Hopefully Gorilla Sensei doing good as we haven't heard from him in a while and there hasn't been any indication of new projects. Was a little sad that US Jump dropped it after hitting 23 volumes cause the next major arc that came up was amazing.
This channel has quickly become one of favorites. I respect he doesn't just cover one genre like anime or movies, but anything that interests the creator. I watched his 21hr berserk synopsis in like 3 days, it was awesome
The thing I really love in Gintama is how they handled the "Shogun". The most influential character on earth is basically the funniest joke character in every episode he's featured in Warning spoilers below: But the way they handled his death is really shocking (in a good way) and really fucking good. The author somehow made a silly joke character really lovable, giving him characterizations despite being the butt of every joke in every episode he's in, which lead to the Shogun assassination arc being one of the most tense arcs in anime. You legitimately don't want him to die and if you know Gintama, you know characters can actually die if the show is in its serious phase. Hell his death was really shocking without feeling out of nowhere essentially giving the audience a time to breath and be relieved a fan favorite character will continue with his whacky adventures only to be taken away in one of the most unexpected moments in the show. And the fact that he died from poisoning is what shocked me, he wasn't given a cinematic death, no glorious sacrifice or last stand, he was just poisoned at a time when everyone including the viewers think he's safe and he decided to spend his last moments in the lap of the person he loved and would mourn his death the hardest. Seriously, The shogun only showed in a very few episodes but his death in my opinion is the most tragic because of how much he made the audience laugh
This is my best friends top like 3 anime. We’ve watched clips of this for hours it’s so insane I love it. Gintoki’s va being chosen to be Joseph joestar was a clear sign this show is beloved
I had to make 3 attempts to watch it, cause it has really a "slow" start, but the more you go further, the better it gets. now binching it ever here and then.
Great review! It was one of the first anime I watched, but I still loved it, even though people say you have to know other anime for it to be funny. I watched Saiki K. and I loved the comedy. I remember that people in the comments were talking about how similar in the comedy department is Gintama, so I decided to watch it, not knowing anything about it other than that. So the serious stuff was completely unexpected, and I was shocked seeing blood in the Benizakura Arc. It's still my favourite anime ever, even though I also loved and watched other legendary anime like One Piece and HxH. Gintama is absolutely fantastic and I'm planning to rewatch it soon. This time I do also want to read the manga since I didn't before. I also can't wait for the Ginpachi Sensei anime in 2025 it's going to be great!!!
Yesssss... Oshiete, Ginpachi Sensei! I loved the post credit specials, each and every one of them. But. I'm greatful that I loved Spyair's Wadachi so much that I stayed for all of the song at the end of Gintama: The Final - I'd never expected that post credit scene and it's one of the best, hands down. I can't wait for the TV series, I hope it'll be great.
I am very in love with the live action, with all their clunky CGI and fight scenes, because IT MAKES SENSE. The anime had the very same issues and jokes that they don't have enough budget to animate more than 1 minute of fight scenes, or they have to insert 5min nonsense in a serious arc because they've used up all the budget for a fight scene. Even before One Piece Netflix came to be, I already ranked Gintama Live Action as a very successful adaptation in my heart, and proof that they can adapt Japanese comedy anime into live action. If Gintama had more budget, I have no doubt they could have done better CGI, fight choreo, sets & editing. But I do prefer the roughshod end result. It's just very Gintama-like. I argue that Gintama live action did a better job at capturing their anime counterparts. The downside is that new audiences will not get the live action at all (which they acknowledged during the movie as a 4th wall joke). I rank the actor for Hijikata the highest because he had to sell 2 personalities in the 2nd movie, and I thought he played badass Hijikata vs pathetic Toshii really well.
i think Kagura’s voice is cute as heck, and she’s hilarious and mad powerful! had a buddy back in college who said he dropped the series like episode 6 coz he said her voice was too annoying -____- smh no culture lmaooo
Now we wait for the class 3z spinoff to come out Also, my favorites: Arc: Courtesean of a nation or Four devas. Song: Hana Ichi Monme- Burnout Syndromes. Character: Sakamoto and Tama. Favorite moment: Penile brake.
It's finally here so I'm overjoyed even though I was expecting it to be over an hour long. I guess this is ok since Loli has talked about this for many hours on his streams.
Definitely an anime i'll put on the list, it's interesting how the anime and manga do there own spin on the material. Also to add to the list, Rie Kugimiya is also Rise in Persona 4 so "Jennifer hale of japan" is not too far off.
I really need to pick this back up, I stopped after 87 episodes because I've been distracted by Sci-fi anime, specifically Gundam and Ideon. Also Shinpachi has the same VA as Uso Ewin from Victory Gundam so...I guess if you want to hear Shinpachi's VA cry a lot, go watch Victory Gundam.
Gintama is my favourite manga/anime and stumble on it because of Jump Ultimate Stars lol.I kept watching because is funny but the serious arcs came out of nowhere and legit became GOAT status.
There are only two types of people: 1. Absolutely hates Gintama for what it is; and 2. Gintama is the GOAT. No contest. Hands down. I'm the latter. Also, worth mentioning is that when Gintoki or whoever starts talking sense with THE classical guitar plucking song playing in the background, you'd know what's up.
Anshinshite Kutabare Dachikou? It's so freaking amazing. Although there is quite many great songs with a classical guitar as a leading instrument, so...

Personally, I do think that if any studio could do a Gintama game justice, it’s Ryu Ga Gotoku studio. The blend of whacky fun and serious plot. Side stories are basically Gintama’s “filler” episodes anyway. We already know they can work with swords as a fighting style through Kenzan and Ishin. Kabukicho and kamurocho are based on the same location and exploring it and the city could be fun. Personally I’d love for a Yakuza 0 style with Gintoki and Hijikata as dual protagonists where you also get to take part in Shinsengumi whackyness
Out the Shonen jump roster of MC. The two black sheep are Gintoki and ichigo they have NO ulterior motives in that they do gintoki fights for his friends smile. Ichigo fights for friends and family and anyone who needs it...they are pure MC Greatness.

I rarely watched anime, except Pokemon and Dragon Ball as a kid. Then I saw a Dragon Ball parody AMV on youtube and searched for the episodes listed there. And watched all (at the time) 200 episodes of Gintama. I still rarely watch anime since then, but Gintama is one of my all time favourite series.
I always juggled Tsukuyo and Nobume depending who's more present at the time. Spent almost half my life with Gintama as my favorite anime such a surreal feeling when the we reached the final.
If you think about it; you see how Rick and Morty is a rip off of Gintama. Sakata is Rick Morty is Shinpachi Kagura is Summer Space adventures, alongside everyday earthling stuff Instead of Shinsengumi, we have the president of the Untied States there having the same roll almost. Hell…even their dogs look the same!! They are both ripping off popular movies, tv shows and 💩 from everyday events, where Gintama also pays homage to the popular Manga.

I'm greatful that I loved Spyair's Wadachi so much that I stayed for all of the song at the end of Gintama: The Final - I'd never expected that post credit scene and it's one of the best, hands down. I can't wait for the TV series, I hope it'll be great.
the 5-7 chapter/episode “serious,” arcs of Gintama are better than some entire manga imo
Any anime I see with Zura’s seiyuu as a serious character already makes it an automatic comedy (Athrun, Akaza, Gaara…Zura da)
i think Kagura’s voice is cute as heck, and she’s hilarious and mad powerful!
had a buddy back in college who said he dropped the series like episode 6 coz he said her voice was too annoying -____-
smh no culture lmaooo
what about highschoolers where the VA of gintoki is a teenager, the humor is just flawless
Gintama is legit funny... even with the culture barrier...
What the fuck man I just finished the show and now I have one of my favorite new channels talking about it, this really is Christmas come early.
Love that you used Bad Religion to open.
Now we wait for the class 3z spinoff to come out
Also, my favorites:
Arc: Courtesean of a nation or Four devas.
Song: Hana Ichi Monme- Burnout Syndromes.
Character: Sakamoto and Tama.
Favorite moment: Penile brake.
“if you don’t like Sadaharu, i don’t like you!”
lmaooo i feel that, bro! haha
I want to experience Gintama again from the very first!!
It's finally here so I'm overjoyed even though I was expecting it to be over an hour long. I guess this is ok since Loli has talked about this for many hours on his streams.
Gintama
Still my favorite anime ever.
Gintama bros
HERE WE GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
LETS PARTY!
Definitely an anime i'll put on the list, it's interesting how the anime and manga do there own spin on the material. Also to add to the list, Rie Kugimiya is also Rise in Persona 4 so "Jennifer hale of japan" is not too far off.
Happy 20th anniversary to the gintama manga
2003 2023
I am th3 ONE PERCENT
Since EP.01 I LOVE IT
I never got around to Gintama, but I've been meaning to check it out one day. This definitly made me move it up the list. 👍
The best fight scene in any anime was the toilet paper running out.
Whether intentional or not, live action Gintana gives off a Tim & Eric Show vibe by aesthetics alone
Literally had the EMTs called on me because I laughed so hard I hyperventilated
Twice
A Gintama game by the God hand team would be so fucking good. The tone of that game is very similar. I think most of them are working at tango now.
will always be my favorite anime of all time
Gintama is my favourite manga/anime and stumble on it because of Jump Ultimate Stars lol.I kept watching because is funny but the serious arcs came out of nowhere and legit became GOAT status.
Bad religion in the intro goes hard, good video my guy
System shock 2 soundtrack on 33rd minute was quite unexpected 😮
There are only two types of people: 1. Absolutely hates Gintama for what it is; and 2. Gintama is the GOAT. No contest. Hands down. I'm the latter. Also, worth mentioning is that when Gintoki or whoever starts talking sense with THE classical guitar plucking song playing in the background, you'd know what's up.
Anshinshite Kutabare Dachikou? It's so freaking amazing. Although there is quite many great songs with a classical guitar as a leading instrument, so...
@@gizmo9290 I'm not sure about that one. But the one I'm referring to is "Mukashi no Yuujin ga Kawarazu ni iru Toiu no mo Waruku nai Mono da na". Yeah, that's quite mouthful for a title.
Another successful TAL upload enjoy your Gintama (*sips Chalice*)
“Kintama” means golden balls, “Gintama” means silver soul
Fuck yeah!!!! This is one of my favourite anime hands down. I've laughed to the point of crying so many times watching Gintama
A NEW GINTAMA REVIEW ON RUclips??? YESSSSSS
A new TAL video? It's a Kwanzaa Miracle!
Thanks for this birthday present cunny man!
Scarred beautiful women are always recommended to be top tier waifus of any series.
23:20 You keep saying "Red Spider Arc" but I keep mishearing it as "Brett Spiner Arc".
For new watchers, definitely appreciate those comedic episodes because after season 4 episode 40, it gets depressing

The two black sheep are
Gintoki and ichigo they have NO ulterior motives in that they do gintoki fights for his friends smile. Ichigo fights for friends and family and anyone who needs it...they are pure MC Greatness.
😂😂maybe you will talk about this..
If you ever seen saiki k
Season 2 ep...starts woth the MC of saiki..and then gintoki, shinpachi, kagura just promoting therw new time slot 😂😂😂😂
This series is also in the top 10 most highly rated series on MAL. Is it really that good?
Absolutely, literally my most fav anime of all time
Really, you are going to talk about Gintama? Amazing. I'm looking for a Yakuza/Ryu Ga Gotoku episode since Rie is Kagura in this show.
But
But
Kato ken samba 😭🍻
The fist of the north star and more In a poll episode...
I really need to finish watching Gintama. One of the best intro/) & outro songs.
best christmas gift ever!
Was not expecting bad religion to make an appearance but it is a welcome one.
ok wait I havent seen this anime and the intro looks crazy, be right back
If you think about it; you see how Rick and Morty is a rip off of Gintama.
Sakata is Rick
Morty is Shinpachi
Kagura is Summer
Space adventures, alongside everyday earthling stuff
Instead of Shinsengumi, we have the president of the Untied States there having the same roll almost.
Hell…even their dogs look the same!!
They are both ripping off popular movies, tv shows and 💩 from everyday events, where Gintama also pays homage to the popular Manga.
I can hear the song Pascal from Nier Automata in the background....
You should talk about GODZILLA MINUS ONE. It's everything you love about good movies.
