I recall this was a follow up hit after 'Oh babe, what would you say'. Was written by Raymond (Gilbert) O'Sullivan. Had it on an album, 'SuperBad 74' in January that year. In the charts late 73/ early 74.

Amusing story when he saw the lyrics for She Loves You and said what a load of crap, this won't be a hit in a million years

Coincidentally, the arrangement was intentionally old-fashioned and yes, his voice is QUITE unusual and perhaps nasal, but he had a #1 hit... And I'll bet you've never had one.
For the record, he passed away, so at least be respectful, if nothing else. Did you know that Smith engineered several Beatles and produced Pink Floyd albums? No small accomplishment.
