This is what makes Vinnie such a genius. How anyone can orchestrate a complex beat like this and make it work for a great song is just way above my pay grade.
It's hard to play, sure. Vinnie does all that and makes it musical. A lot of cats want to be fast and/or technical. That's cool. I'm one of them. But none of that matters if it doesn't groove. Vinnie is the man!
This is the best and most detailed -starting with the simplest up to the most complex - explanation I have ever heard and seen for this song and charted out. Thank you so much.
7 Days and Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic are my 2 most favorite Sting songs and coincidentally, the story between the songs intertwine. But what I love about 7 Days is how effortless and delicate Vinnie Colaiuta on the drums.
This song us an absolute masterpiece in every way and one my favourites. I knew it was a complex drum rhythm but wow ...this breakdown shows just how complex! Fabulous insight.
Soooooo hard. WOW. Great explanation thank you. if you feel so inclined load up on a separate tab of Vinnie paying this with Sting and listen to all the little accents and nuances he adds he's nothing short of a drumming genius...incredible!
Probably THE VERY BEST drum lesson by video I've ever had. Superbly done.. Wish you gave another minute to #5 tho. But Well Done teaching basics and building on 5. I luvvv 7/4 too. So fun to swing it.
Interesting that most of tutorials seem to demonstrate the bass drum like this. But Vinnie actually plays the bass drum only on beat the one on verses, apart from occasional "4 on the floor" or should we say 5 on the floor instead. :D
It's funny how busy that groove is yet on the record there's only that 1 hit per measure and not 2. I definitely can't play this without wanting to get that second hit either!
HI there, I had an argument with this guy on Facebook about it and although finally I send him a link with the song transcribed, he said I'm not right. Even without the transcription it's audible if you are a musician. How do you argue with such a person?!
The accented hats is really difficult. I find it easier to open the hat a tiny bit with each accent to maintain the feel where my 'lack of being Vinny' can't always keep the pattern going. This groove and mastering 'the Purdie Shuffle' (and the variations from Led Zep and Toto with "Fool in the Rain" and "Rosanna" respectively) are my nemeses on the kit when I get to play. I should buy one and practice, I s'pose but I like having my wife :)
What a great channel! I just discovered by chance. Subbed and clicked the bell icon. As a drummer, this is a great way to breakdown some amazing beats. Thanks! I am a big Sting fan and his unusual rythms.
Vinnie only plays the "one"on the kick in the verse. Plus he doesn't play 4's on the ride.(they're only accented) He just plays the for a quarter bar as a fill on the ride. The ride takes the same approach as the hats with the bell being the 4 accent.
Drumeo I recommend you to do each step at 80bpm then add more and more so it’s easier for us learners to learn. I recommend you watch Brandon khoo’s rossana breakdown
A great classic groove! Joe Crabtree does a great breakdown of this as well. Vinnie also opens every other accent giving a 2 feel over the 5 & accents every 3 at times. Dig the shuffle variation here👌🏽. There a pdf?
Uh…my brain just imploded. Right kick and left hand in 5/4, left foot 4/4, and then just for shits and giggles let’s have the right hand play 3/8. Perfect. 🤯🤣
Semola Pezzi hi there! In this example the "shuffle" is not written as triplets, but quarter notes and eight notes. ( same as in the shuffle, one long and one short note) hope that helps, good luck! Cheers; Gabs
but i only hear one bass drum note on the original recording, how is that then?, putting that aside, its a great tutorial, my respects to you. but i have that doubt

It's almost unfathomable, really.

Defenitly agree

Yes, Stewart Copeland is a top notch drummer. Especially on Every Little Thing She Does.
This is like patting your head, rubbing your belly and kicking yourself in the ass at the same time. Great video!
Great work Gabor Dornyei, you're an amazing teacher !
Wow, was ein sympathischer Mensch und sehr guter Drummer/Lehrer, bin beeindruckt...DANKE 👌👍

Really good breakdown and exercise build to the groove.

I know what you mean, since it's so prominent figure and most of the band is playing it.

True. There is a nice clip on YT where Vinnie adds the extra kick note on tour with Sting...I think it was in Norway.

Indeed a great lesson, very well paced and thought out.
Király vagy Gábor! Profi magyarázat.
👍Fantastic break-down of this great beat!
I'm drumming on Seven Days for about eighty weeks now. Patience is virtue... ⭐
Tremendous lesson. Wow how it builds. Thank you very much. Bill.

You have that very well dialled squire. Beautiful.
Nicely done Gabor. Excellent teacher and video
Great breakdown of an iconic groove. Thanks for the lesson.

I did Seven Days as one of the songs for my college audition!
Amazing lesson. Thanks u so much
Which is the metronome value you used ? Thank-you, very great tutorial , this channel is my favourite for drum learning.
Everybody´s favorite. Nailed it.
AAARGGGHHH !!! great video
Well bite my beetroot! That’s crazy. Awesome playing. 😎
Thanks for the amazing lesson, bravo!

duudeee! Thank you!!!
damn its a hard groove!
Great instructional lesson. Such an awesome site/company. Well done Drumeo!

Thank's very good teatch
A really great vedio
Thanks for that
Ia am a beginner this is really good for us
Thanks for the lesson :)
Great stuff!!
Genius 😎
Uh…my brain just imploded. Right kick and left hand in 5/4, left foot 4/4, and then just for shits and giggles let’s have the right hand play 3/8. Perfect. 🤯🤣
This thing gets complicated but it’s worth it!!
I love that i can watch the drumeo Videos on my 4k Monitor. But i must say, 60fps would be way better for watching drum videos :)
Nice!
Unmistakably Hungarian Accent. Brilliant video by the way.
Great!
Great job on this lesson. If you could do the fills now you'd be complete.
Seven Days is based on 5/8 with 16ten notes on hihat/ride (offbeat and triplets accents).
Please get Vinnie in to your studio!!
Wow, don't know the song, I will check it out. But IMHO #1c is an amazing beat in and off itself!
Also very nicely explained! thanks
Thanks for the sharing! This is awesome song~! Sounds like 5/8. But I know that's 5/4
Sorry to ask, but are you sure this sounds to you as a 5/8? That is a really odd time, and actually pretty different..
Neander104 I thought it was 5/8 for a long time
It makes no difference. It just depends on how you feel it. I feel it in 5/8
Oh ok, guess that you can basically split up one measure in two : )
Actually I just feel it in one measure. Instead of feeling it in 5/4 with this tempo, I feel it in 5/8 but half as fast.
more like this please
Great
Hungary does have some very fine drummers indeed
Interesante, gracias!!!
That's cool! 🤙
where can I find the PDF of this lesson?
IDK if 5/4 it's the correct. I remember a concert and the transcript was a 5/8
Dear Drumeo, invite Vinnie for the love of God!!!🙏
That is so tricky!
WOW !!!!
Still lost in space, but nice job breaking down some super complicated stuff.
I never planned on playing 5/4
Gamers guide Craze d
New breed
when sir guiliana?
Can anyone please explain me how to read #4? I see no shuffles written, there is not the '3' of triplets, thank you :)
Semola Pezzi hi there! In this example the "shuffle" is not written as triplets, but quarter notes and eight notes. ( same as in the shuffle, one long and one short note) hope that helps, good luck! Cheers; Gabs
Would be easier and faster to practice if these samples could be a little longer. Maybe a double as long? Nicely put together nevertheless:)
but i only hear one bass drum note on the original recording, how is that then?, putting that aside, its a great tutorial, my respects to you. but i have that doubt
That snare dough
We should note that the hi-hat pattern is reversed on the first repeat. The first bar will have three hi-hat notes.
What's up with his bass drum :(
They needed to EQ the mids and highs out to get rid of the ringing from the hardware and hats bleeding into the mic.
Talk about tone eh?
what ride?
👍👍👍
except in the actual recording vinnie only plays the bass on one .. the keyboard does the note on the and of 2 not the kick
ian pretorius In all if his live videos he does 1 and the + of 2
Mathias Jaabs on drums. Lol.
Pretty simple, really.
The hi-hat goes in 4/4 and the song in 5/4. Vinnie is a master on drums. Most miss that.
Good lesson, but on the verse there’s no kick in the second quarter note.
