Great beginner lessons! I started learning guitar in January 2021, beginning with buying a new set of Martin extra light strings and stringing one of my son's guitars by myself. I learned to tune the guitar myself after that, and found my first RUclips beginner lesson for "Where do the Children Play" by Cat Stevens, using only 4 chords. I'm going to be 59 yrs old this year, and it's always been a dream of mine to learn to play. My 25 year old son has been playing for 10 years and he's impressed with my progress. This will be my 5th song I want to "master" after 3 months of playing. Well, at least play well enough to play and sing it for my wife. My goal is to be a VERY GOOD amateur guitarist by the time I retire in 5 or 6 years. To all those learning out there like me, you CAN do it! Pick up the guitar every day even if it's only 10 minutes! Be patient with yourself and keep learning from awesome, realistic, teachers like Kurt!

i had the same issue when i was learning my first few songs but after a lot of practice i got the hang of it and i was able to play and sing at the same time. Just know it takes some time and a lot of practice but you'll get there.
you litterately need to slow your entire timing. listen to the song as you sing it while AIR struming. then your muscle memory will correct you without you noticing till your already doing it. you should only notice yourself sing. this is what i did to fix my issue with it
The strumming in this song is pretty simple so it would be easy for u if u start with this one as the strumming becomes more complicated u will face more problems

Yeah I did make a mistake in this video - you should be changing chords every 2 beats, not every 4. Follow along with the chord changes in the description of this video instead - that's correct
