When I first started playing guitar 53 years ago, the F chord was hands down the most difficult finger placement (for me anyway) to master in the basic C, F & G chord progression. Learn also the classic way of the right hand. Difficult in the beginning, but opens a lot of possibilities, when you control it. It's the same way a flamenco guitarist holds his right hand. Bobby Krieger, guitarist of the Doors played flamenco, before he joined the Doors. Also very interesting for fingerpicking, without plectrum.

Even if you're strumming a well-tuned guitar *without* any finger on the frets it's kinda like a mistuned "G" but sometimes it is used as an interchord like in the 90's song "What's up" by "4 Non Blondes".

Pretty cool song to train some C F G Am chord transitions. :D I will use this mostly as an exercise since I still suck at guitar. I like having some melody and rhythm and not just switching chords. Thank you for the lovely video.

This is the very simple variation I don’t think Jeff ever played. It’s more like the piano version of Rufus wainwright. I heard about him from Shrek. Anyways, Jeff had a capo up high on the fretboard. From there he creates a guitar intro out of pieces of the key which inevitably comes together and solidifies into a progression. But he fashioned the chords to be in separate octaves instead of straight through to make his range and vocal ability show as it weaves around the pitch of the chords eventually matching the highest chord in the composition at the very end. That’s how I heard it. This is a good beginning chords into song though. A lot to learn from this.

By the way it is Lenard Cohén (NOT Lenurd Cohun).
Next step is the first three notes on the second string A B C and then the three top strings in C: G C E
Followed by the first three notes on the second string downwards C B A and then the three top strings in Am: A C E.
    etc ...

I guess the lyrics misled me into thinking that the chord progression was really hard. I watched the video with the arpeggio suggestions, went to the piano, did them, made up a bass line, and voilá! Instant piano accompaniment. In the process, I figured out what "the fourth, the fifthe, the minor fall and the major lift" meant. Thanks!

Thanks so much for this awesome video. I have a question though. This is the very first time I have ever played a guitar and I can't figure out how to incorporate the singing with the notes. Do you think there is anyway that you could sing with the music so we know how it is supposed to sound all together. Sorry to bother you. I think you are awesome.

Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you dont really care for music, do you?
It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth
The minor falls, the major lifts
    The baffled king composing Hallelujah
    Hallelujah, Hallelujah
    Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew her
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
    Hallelujah, Hallelujah
    Hallelujah, Hallelujah
