      @@RangeDay I really like the Juliet 3x. It's crystal clear and seems to be very rugged and well made. You notice the quality as soon as you get it your hands.. The eye relief is pretty short so I have it set as far back as possible. But for me it's not an issue because I prefer to have my stock collapsed all the way and tuck the rifle in close. So for me it's perfect. The MSR also seems very well made and rugged. The glass is clear and the dot is crisp. The MSR was easy to zero and holds. The only real reason I'm moving to the Romeo 5 is the MOTAC feature which I think is fantastic for all the reasons you had pointed out in your video. Keep on keep'n on......Eric

    I have the Sig Sauer Romeo5xdr; got it about a week ago. I’ve never been a gun nut even while I was in the Marine Corps. I trained on iron sights. Fast forward, I have an AR-15 pistol 7” barrel. I took it to my buddies property on the outskirts of town, shot it and missed every single shot. I have no clue how to shoot with a red dot. I also have a 10.5” barreled AR-15 pistol with iron sights and I can shoot that just fine. I’m in a somewhat rural area so there’s not many here that can give me pointers on how to shoot with a red dot. I’ve searched on RUclips also and have had no luck.

    • @RangeDay
      @RangeDay  4 года назад +4

      Hey littlerascle59! First of all, thank you for your service. We couldn't do what we do without the armed forces to fight for our freedom.
      Red dots provide a great way to get on target and most of the time, you can save weight comparing it to a variable zoom optic. With all that being said, there is a small learning curve with adapting to the red dot life.
      The first thing I would recommend would be to make sure the red dot is secured to the rail. Before you get the mount tightened down where you want it, put some blue thread locker on the bolts that tighten the mount to the gun rail. That will prevent the bolts from backing out and shifting zero. Then make sure you get a good zero when you sight the target in. 100 yd zero is what we usually do with rifles.
      Most of the shooting mechanics will be the same and will carry over from iron sights. The dot may even be on your same sight line as your iron sights. That's known as an "absolute co-witness". Or it may be a little bit higher than your front sight, which is known as a "lower 1/3 witness".
      The only thing I could think of that would be different would be your cheek weld. Most of the times it's no issue, but the higher that optic sits off the rail, the more you will have to raise your head up off your stock/brace to get a sight line with the optic. That makes it quicker to get on target, but definitely less comfortable.
      Check out T. Rex Arms on RUclips. They are great with shooting fundamentals and drills.
      Hope that helps!

      @@RangeDay ordered a bushnell trs-26 because they have a crazy rebate right now. but I doubt that's going to "replace" the romeo, more of a backup for when this stuff happens. kinda thinking when I get the rebate from that I'm going to look at some lpvos with etched reticles. I have an illuminated primary arms 1-8x for my hunting AR in 7.62x39, which I like a lot. i think psa is selling vortex strike eagles with a mount for like $300. the bushnell AR optics lpvos are always pretty cheap or have some sort of rebate and seem "good enough" for a range toy. Will probably throw the rma replacement romeo on an ar pistol or something else I'll probably only shoot at the range until I trust it enough to put on something I might use for self/home defense.

    • @RangeDay
      @RangeDay  3 года назад +1

      For red dots, they are generally good options up to 100 yards. It’s not that they are worthless past that, but you’d want some kind of magnification with it to ensure you have a good sight picture of the target!

    3:39 NO it does not extend the battery life to 40,000 hours. That would be 4.5 years continuous use. Unless you used a time machine and your battery is nuclear powered.

    • @RangeDay
      @RangeDay  4 года назад +2

      We used up the last uranium core for our time machine while shooting this video, but it definitely helped in extending the battery life!
      Ahh we're just kidding. I believe the manufacturer is calling it 40,000 hours with the dot turning on and off. Which is technically cheating saying the battery life is 40,000 with it in "sleep" mode.
      It's very handy not having to worry about turning your red dot off to save battery life or even having to change your battery every year.
