Okay, don't get me wrong-Knuckles is powerful. But Shadow can teleport, fly, run as fast as Sonic (if not faster on some occasions), and probably use Chaos Spear. He even creates some sort of black hole in the movie trailer. On top of all that, he's holding back with inhibitor rings. I understand that your complaint isn't about Knuckles being beaten, but remember, we haven't even seen the full fight yet-this is just a trailer, not the full movie. By the way, this was a good video, but get your complaints straight.
Knuckles & Shadow would be an interesting match but In all fairness, the Movie Characters are completely different from the other iterations. We don't know how powerful Shadow Is yet, not only that, he's the ultimate lifeform
Yeah, like, in all the fights where Knuckles can fight, he already saw all Shadow's habilities, and in the movie Knuckles was already overwhelmed by Sonic's speed (In the games too, even if he can punch out a super form, he was defeated by Sonic without issue like a normal Sonic copy badnik)
Some people have said Shadow is doing this because he is trying to find Maria. I personally don't buy this. In one of the scenes he is clearly shown mourning something with Gerald. Most likely Maria's death. What I think he is trying to do is get revenge on humanity for killing Maria. Especially G.U.N.
Interestingly, it seems her death will be an explosion rather than a gunshot. Not a bad way to censor the brutality and not make me retroactively hate the GUN characters.
I agree, since he can make Movie Shadow's voice sound like a mix of the voices of those 2 people who have formerly been official VAs for Shadow in the games, instead of making the Ultimate Lifeform's voice sound disappointingly different from what those people made his voice sound like when they voiced that character, truly makes it extra satisfying that Paramount decided to cast Keanu in for that role. Wise casting choice.

Reminder Movie Shadow can teleport without a chaos emerald, possibly has Doom DNA, and matches Sonic's speed and reflexes, and Sonic in the last movie has dodged more of Knux's punches than being hit by them for practically most of the movie, It's no surprise that Shadow absolutely messes Knuckles up the first encounter
I think it's been a staple at this point that Shadow can teleport without the need of a Chaos emerald, it just boosts how far he can do it I guess. He uses it against Sonic in SA2's hero campaign, while the Eggman has the 7th chaos emerald and the other 6 are already in the eclipse cannon. And then pretty much every iteration of Shadow has him teleport as one of his main abilities, despite the Chaos emeralds never being seen.

@@KnuxBrent07 hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby. Sonic has been improvising in combat, mostly carried by his speed. Knuckles is a warrior which is why he was able to do decent against Sonic and overpower him the first fights. Shadow, the guy who is literally engineered and contained as the "top secret weapon" will have combat skills, WITH Sonic's speed. Catching Knuckles off guard like that will do that.
Definitely wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a moment where Knuckles and Shadow have a rematch where he actually manages to land a full-force fire punch on Shadow, which would certainly be felt on the receiving end. Not enough to put him down for long, but definitely enough to make Shadow take a step back and re-evaluate his strategy.
I don't really see any reason for Knuckles to be on par with Shadow in the beginning, it doesn't devalue or make Knuckles weak it just shows how strong Shadow is, it's power creep to establish the mountain the crew has to climb.

Exactly, if shadow was shown to be weaker or even on par with knuckles or sonic etc, then the movie fails to create an obstacle for the hero’s to overcome. It’s simple and effective writing, people are just but-hurt that they’re favourite characters don’t win every fight; I mean the last movie was pretty much all about knuckles, and then he got a spinoff as well, yet when shadow gets the same treatment (which he rarely gets nowadays anyway) this guy has a problem.
I’m sorry, but them calling him an alien doesn’t mean that they’ll explore the plot of him being a black arm hybrid in this, Sonic and his friends are also called aliens because that’s why they are in this universe. Maybe they’ll explore him being part black arm in the future but for now I don’t think that they will actually appear nor that they’ll be mentioned in the movie.
Btw i heard a theory . In the first sonic movie it was told that tom ( donut lord) and his family has been protecting green hills for over 50 years and project shadow started like 50 years ago too . Maybe Tom's father or grandad might be responsible for the death of Maria by accident probably and after shadow finds out about this he kills tom . Thus leading to the scene where sonic says "what did you do?!?" Shadow:"what I had to."
Theory time: The gerald scene is something like when shadow goes into a disc in archie, so eggman is going trough disc one by one and in the later discs hes getting more crazy and in the last one its the discs from last story Gerald wont be so goofy by this time

2:28 I mean to be fair I don’t think he’s ever had to deal with someone that can teleport, (Unless he dose in the knuckles series I haven’t watched that yet) so that plus the fact that Shadow is almost definitely as fast as Sonic makes it pretty reasonable to think that Knuckles was thrown off and couldn’t adapt quickly enough. Plus Knuckles isn’t the only one to get bodied Tails and even Sonic (though to a lesser extent) get absolutely wrecked by Shadow showing just how unprepared they all are for this fight, though I definitely agree that the next fight should have them be a lot more even since they will be more prepared and they’ll likely have help from Eggman. Also here’s a theory: What if Eggman uses the quill to make Metal Sonic to help fight Shadow but also as a way to introduce what could be the next main antagonist for the future films because i was already doubt full that Jim Carry would return for this film as i’m pretty sure he’s never done a full trilogy till now so I’m even more doubtful that he’ll appear in a potential 4th film so introducing his greatest creation could be a good way to continue on without Jim if he likely decides that this is his final Sonic film. Oh and also 6:48 while you could be right that he’s not dead to avoid the whole execution thing it may also just be because they have a different story idea in mind that involves Gerald being alive but we will have to wait till December to find out

Knuckles is basically the Piccolo of the Sonic series where he started out as Sonic's rival until a bigger rival comes that's even more powerful and outshine him aka Shadow/Vegeta. And let's be honest here, Shadow is kinda the bigger more popular rival to Sonic basically, even if Knuckles were to have a rematch where he get a couple of licks in, he's not the one who needs to defeat Shadow. I just did a quick little RUclips search for shadow vs knuckles, and there are only a couple comparisons for the two characters but shadow wins every time. Knuckles is stronger than shadow yeah TRUE. But Shadow is way more busted than sonic is, and sonic defeats knuckles in a 1 v 1. Bring out the Archie comics if you wanna argue but other than that, shadow STOMPS mid difficulty every time. 1:35 Technically speaking, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are also aliens since they don't belong in Earth before, at least in this universe. I wouldn't be surprised if other Sonic's friends like Amy, Cream, Big, and Team Chaotix will be involved in other movies or in a TV show after 3 movies.
This will not happen, but imagine Shadow hurts Tom. We do see Tom yelling in a gun outfit, seeming like he's telling Sonic to run or for help that's when sonic tells shadow "what did you do" it would have a lot more of an impact on sonic if shadow severely hurts tom
2:50 I will give a pass because 1. knuckles was taken by surprise and 2. If you look closely shadow caught his left arm and Knuckles was pulling his punch with his right arm, so technically Shadow just stopped Knuckles before he could hit him.
I think the reason Shadow overpowered Knuckles is due to them not knowing eachother. In X and other continuitys they already had an established knowledge of eachother. So since Shasow is another hedgehog it causes Knuckles to think he'd be able to fight Shadow the same way he did Sonic. idk just how i saw it lol
I love these movies because they have actual powerful themes they are working with here. Family vs. Trauma. Sonic Knuckles and Shadow all have very similar backstories. With the main difference being Sonic and Knuckles were able to cope and find a brighter future while Shadow at the moment seemingly has not. In that sense Shadows backstory is being used as a foil to Sonic esspecially instead of being dark for the sake of it. If they can land Shadow and his character this might be unironically the best videogame adaptation of all time for what they were able to achieve.
The potential parallels between Maria & Longclaw are fascinating! Especially because Tom says 'you didn't change', setting him apart from Shadow's story

Plus maybe it's just me but movie Sonic isn't quite as experienced in combat like in the comics or the games so there's that as well

That’s why he has to talk Knuckles down instead

I feel like shadow was always supposed to be represented as a power house that only sonic can rival. he is the ultimate life form. he can stop time, fire off energy blasts, teleport. and get even stronger without his inhebitor rings to the point his energy levels rivals a chaos emerald. it never actually made sense for me how knuckles or even actually sonic could equal him.
I found funny how after we got a trailer so promising after a long time the first reaction of the fandom is this. Again, we are talking about a series that produced only two movies (with this new one, three) and one spinoof. Oh but yeah, series who was producing merchandise for a long time and have more notorious flaws (ex, IDW comics idk I can't say more examples cuz then mad kids will appear) no one says anything. What they’re doing with Knuckles “losing” to Shadow is a problem fiction always does with characters. Like you said, they build up a character, have everyone like them, and then they introduce a more powerful character and job them. Ex: Hit from Dragon Ball Super. They made him look awesome, only to have him lose to the next big opponent later, that being Jiren. Hit never did anything substantial since that loss, which is also bull. Such an annoying trend, and this is coming from a hardcore Shadow fan. Hopefully Knuckles can have a decent fight with Shadow later on, because this version of Knuckles seems to be superior to even this version of Sonic. Shadow’s one of those adversaries who can really throw his opponents off guard with his crazy powers, so some prep time is in order. Other than that, the movie looks cool and a lot of fun! Looking forward to it. ^^
Knuckles with prep time could legitimately be a genius. He hasn't had a big fight since The Buyer and he was even about to beat Sonic before Robotnik grabbed the M.E.

And if he's made with chaos energy and black arm dna (assuming they follow the game canon of his actual birth) than yeah it's pretty believable for shadow to be stronger than knuckles. For comparison knuckles and sonic are mostly matched knuckles edge being his superior strength and durability and sonic having the speed and agility. Now we have shadow who is just as if not stronger than knuckles movie canon wise as well as having similar speed to sonic who's leagues faster than knuckles, has the ability to fly like tails and can teleport alongside a other abilities we might even see. And when you add that up than yeah you can see the very obvious difference and it's not just knuckles who gets cooked it's all of them. It was to the point where sonic the person with the most hate for eggman suggested that they go to eggman for help. Knuckles is strong and he's still has the warrior strictness to him and he's without a doubt the strongest of team sonic (raw strength wise) but them showing knuckles being beaten easily gives a good impression of how much of a threat shadow is. Knuckles isn't weak it's just that shadow is too strong,

shadows TELEPORTATION is what gives him an edge over team sonic. he has Sonics speed and reflexes, knuckles stregnth AND can instantly move from point a to point b. of course he bodies the heroes. also, im not worried about how good the third movie is (i know its going to freaking AWSOME given the trailer), what im concerned about is what will happen AFTER. ive heard that jeff fowler might be stepping down from directing the sonic movies after 3, and given what we've seen from the knuckles series, other directors DO NOT UNDERSTAND what made the sonic movies work.

Even if I'm huge Knux fan, still I can see him losing to Shadow at first encounter. Sonic and his team seems to be not aware of how strong Shadow is or know his weak points, like with Sonic who isn't weak and yet still got wrecked by Knux in 2nd movie at first encounter
3:24 Just saying, I don't think Knuckles was disrespected in his fight with Shadow in Sonic X even in the US 4kids version, because I think I remember that Shadow had a Chaos Emerald both when he one shot Sonic and Chris, then again when he fought Knuckles later in that same instance. He had a clear power boost here when he beat Knuckles and he took his limiters off too and he was extremely tired after the fight vs. what it looks like in the Sonic Movie 3 trailer. And I understand Knuckles is facing a new opponent and was caught off guard, don’t get me wrong, it’s part of the tension. Either way I’m really excited to see the film, Shadow is canonically op so, it is what it is, but man I hope they don’t ignore the absolute unit they made Knuckles in this universe lol

This is what I hate about the trailer (but it’s still good): 1) knuckles is disrespected 2) Gerald is treated like they did Pachacamac, they dump the little characterization they have (vengeful, bitter) and make them goofy. 3) they fat Thor Robotnik, he completely gives up on everything he wanted to do (fulfill his ego by stopping Sonic and taking over the world)
I don't mind goofy Gerald. I think the movie universe is too lighthearted for him to be that way... Though I do suspect he will betray Robotnik or use him to try and destroy the planet last second. I do find the Fat Thor thing out of character for him tbh. His whole thing is that he's like Sonic - he doesn't give up. His ego is his stubborn, driving force. Movie Robotnik kinda peaked in the first Movie but I like Jim Carrey's performances a lot still.
I think you guys miss the point of knuckles getting owned by shadow. It isnt to belittle knuckles its meant to highlight the difference between team sonic and shadow. Knuckles is the benchmark of strength he is the strongest of the three so to see him get defeated only for the others to get swiftly defeat shows shadow strength in power.
@DolphynsDeck Maybe it gets mentioned that he has some alien dna to help create Shadow outside of what Sonic is. Mention the Black Arms but not delve deep into it because they probably don't want to bring in the Black Arms for the films.

Honestly I always wonder how Shadow's story from SA2 works in film when Gerald Robotnik is alive and well. Remember he went mad when he lost his granddaughter, Maria, to GUN after they shot her for helping Shadow esdape them. His grandson, Eggman, will work alongside with him until Gerald shows his madness of unleashing the original Shadow to the world.

Like what if the motorcycle just falls from the sky and hits someone Also I saw a theory where in the first movie Tom says his families been cops for 50 years and obviously shadows whole origin happens 50 years in the past so what if toms grandfather was the gun soldier that killed Maria and now shadow is trying to/does kill Tom to get revenge, and that’s why Tom’s screaming on the ground and Sonic’s saying “what did you do”

A lot people seem to be forgetting that sonic, tail, and knuckles are kinda like teenagers in this movie. while shadow should be a lot older depending on how they depict shadows origin. I believe shadow will shift the tone of they’re character into more of how they are depicted in the comics.

I am waiting for a full take on the film first, at least in that clip, ALL THREE of them got an ass kicking because they were unfamiliar with Shadow. It's not just Knuckles playing the punching bag. I could see it being similar to Knuckles himself in the second film, where the characters start off getting creamed but as they adapt more to his fighting style they have a better chance against him.

Some people have said Shadow is doing this because he is trying to find Maria. I personally don't buy this. In one of the scenes he is clearly shown mourning something with Gerald. Most likely Maria's death. What I think he is trying to do is get revenge on humanity for killing Maria. Especially G.U.N.
Interestingly, it seems her death will be an explosion rather than a gunshot. Not a bad way to censor the brutality and not make me retroactively hate the GUN characters.

Reminder Movie Shadow can teleport without a chaos emerald, possibly has Doom DNA, and matches Sonic's speed and reflexes, and Sonic in the last movie has dodged more of Knux's punches than being hit by them for practically most of the movie, It's no surprise that Shadow absolutely messes Knuckles up the first encounter
I think it's been a staple at this point that Shadow can teleport without the need of a Chaos emerald, it just boosts how far he can do it I guess. He uses it against Sonic in SA2's hero campaign, while the Eggman has the 7th chaos emerald and the other 6 are already in the eclipse cannon. And then pretty much every iteration of Shadow has him teleport as one of his main abilities, despite the Chaos emeralds never being seen.

Definitely wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a moment where Knuckles and Shadow have a rematch where he actually manages to land a full-force fire punch on Shadow, which would certainly be felt on the receiving end. Exactly, if shadow was shown to be weaker or even on par with knuckles or sonic etc, then the movie fails to create an obstacle for the hero’s to overcome. 2:28 I mean to be fair I don’t think he’s ever had to deal with someone that can teleport, (Unless he dose in the knuckles series I haven’t watched that yet) so that plus the fact that Shadow is almost definitely as fast as Sonic makes it pretty reasonable to think that Knuckles was thrown off and couldn’t adapt quickly enough.
Plus Knuckles isn’t the only one to get bodied Tails and even Sonic (though to a lesser extent) get absolutely wrecked by Shadow showing just how unprepared they all are for this fight, though I definitely agree that the next fight should have them be a lot more even since they will be more prepared and they’ll likely have help from Eggman.
Also here’s a theory: What if Eggman uses the quill to make Metal Sonic to help fight Shadow but also as a way to introduce what could be the next main antagonist for the future films because i was already doubt full that Jim Carry would return for this film as i’m pretty sure he’s never done a full trilogy till now so I’m even more doubtful that he’ll appear in a potential 4th film so introducing his greatest creation could be a good way to continue on without Jim if he likely decides that this is his final Sonic film.
Oh and also 6:48 while you could be right that he’s not dead to avoid the whole execution thing it may also just be because they have a different story idea in mind that involves Gerald being alive but we will have to wait till December to find out

Knuckles is basically the Piccolo of the Sonic series where he started out as Sonic's rival until a bigger rival comes that's even more powerful and outshine him aka Shadow/Vegeta. And let's be honest here, Shadow is kinda the bigger more popular rival to Sonic basically, even if Knuckles were to have a rematch where he get a couple of licks in, he's not the one who needs to defeat Shadow.

I think the reason Shadow overpowered Knuckles is due to them not knowing eachother. In X and other continuitys they already had an established knowledge of eachother. So since Shasow is another hedgehog it causes Knuckles to think he'd be able to fight Shadow the same way he did Sonic. idk just how i saw it lol
I love these movies because they have actual powerful themes they are working with here.
Family vs. Trauma.
Sonic Knuckles and Shadow all have very similar backstories. With the main difference being Sonic and Knuckles were able to cope and find a brighter future while Shadow at the moment seemingly has not.
In that sense Shadows backstory is being used as a foil to Sonic esspecially instead of being dark for the sake of it.
If they can land Shadow and his character this might be unironically the best videogame adaptation of all time for what they were able to achieve.
The potential parallels between Maria & Longclaw are fascinating! Especially because Tom says 'you didn't change', setting him apart from Shadow's story

What they’re doing with Knuckles “losing” to Shadow is a problem fiction always does with characters. Like you said, they build up a character, have everyone like them, and then they introduce a more powerful character and job them. Ex: Hit from Dragon Ball Super. They made him look awesome, only to have him lose to the next big opponent later, that being Jiren. Hit never did anything substantial since that loss, which is also bull.
Such an annoying trend, and this is coming from a hardcore Shadow fan. Hopefully Knuckles can have a decent fight with Shadow later on, because this version of Knuckles seems to be superior to even this version of Sonic. Shadow’s one of those adversaries who can really throw his opponents off guard with his crazy powers, so some prep time is in order. Other than that, the movie looks cool and a lot of fun! Looking forward to it. ^^
Knuckles with prep time could legitimately be a genius. He hasn't had a big fight since The Buyer and he was even about to beat Sonic before Robotnik grabbed the M.E.

And if he's made with chaos energy and black arm dna (assuming they follow the game canon of his actual birth) than yeah it's pretty believable for shadow to be stronger than knuckles.
For comparison knuckles and sonic are mostly matched knuckles edge being his superior strength and durability and sonic having the speed and agility. Now we have shadow who is just as if not stronger than knuckles movie canon wise as well as having similar speed to sonic who's leagues faster than knuckles, has the ability to fly like tails and can teleport alongside a other abilities we might even see. And when you add that up than yeah you can see the very obvious difference and it's not just knuckles who gets cooked it's all of them. It was to the point where sonic the person with the most hate for eggman suggested that they go to eggman for help.
Knuckles is strong and he's still has the warrior strictness to him and he's without a doubt the strongest of team sonic (raw strength wise) but them showing knuckles being beaten easily gives a good impression of how much of a threat shadow is. Knuckles isn't weak it's just that shadow is too strong,

This is what I hate about the trailer (but it’s still good):
1) knuckles is disrespected
2) Gerald is treated like they did Pachacamac, they dump the little characterization they have (vengeful, bitter) and make them goofy.
3) they fat Thor Robotnik, he completely gives up on everything he wanted to do (fulfill his ego by stopping Sonic and taking over the world)
I don't mind goofy Gerald. I think the movie universe is too lighthearted for him to be that way... Though I do suspect he will betray Robotnik or use him to try and destroy the planet last second.
I do find the Fat Thor thing out of character for him tbh. His whole thing is that he's like Sonic - he doesn't give up. His ego is his stubborn, driving force. Movie Robotnik kinda peaked in the first Movie but I like Jim Carrey's performances a lot still.

I think you guys miss the point of knuckles getting owned by shadow. It isnt to belittle knuckles its meant to highlight the difference between team sonic and shadow. Knuckles is the benchmark of strength he is the strongest of the three so to see him get defeated only for the others to get swiftly defeat shows shadow strength in power.
Shadow will probably lose to sonic in a second round in the movie
S.A 2 is one of the first games where Sonic and Eggman have to team up. Not exactly to stop only Shadow, but the inspiration is there

@DolphynsDeck Maybe it gets mentioned that he has some alien dna to help create Shadow outside of what Sonic is. Mention the Black Arms but not delve deep into it because they probably don't want to bring in the Black Arms for the films.

Honestly I always wonder how Shadow's story from SA2 works in film when Gerald Robotnik is alive and well. Remember he went mad when he lost his granddaughter, Maria, to GUN after they shot her for helping Shadow esdape them.
His grandson, Eggman, will work alongside with him until Gerald shows his madness of unleashing the original Shadow to the world.

Also I saw a theory where in the first movie Tom says his families been cops for 50 years and obviously shadows whole origin happens 50 years in the past so what if toms grandfather was the gun soldier that killed Maria and now shadow is trying to/does kill Tom to get revenge, and that’s why Tom’s screaming on the ground and Sonic’s saying “what did you do”

I think the issue with everyone is that people expect characters to be prepared for any and everything, which if fair, but we have to remember that like, these are first impression fights, take sonic for example, he wasn’t experienced in a fight, but that doesn’t change that he’s not used to someone being fast enough to at least react to his speed, knuckles could do that, and he beat sonic the first time cause he didn’t know he could do that, its the same here, nobody know this fast, strong dude can just teleport off rip
i literally called that knuckles would be disrespected in the trailer by shadow even though it makes no sense, they made him a badass in the sonic 2 but then made him a goofball in sonic 3 and the show

This is movie troupe 101. In order to show how powerful a villian is they have to nerf the most powerful character in order to make the audience feel like the stakes have gone up. Its the same reason why sonic was nerf in the trailer to Sonic 2. Now its knuckles turn

A lot people seem to be forgetting that sonic, tail, and knuckles are kinda like teenagers in this movie. while shadow should be a lot older depending on how they depict shadows origin. I believe shadow will shift the tone of they’re character into more of how they are depicted in the comics.

I am waiting for a full take on the film first, at least in that clip, ALL THREE of them got an ass kicking because they were unfamiliar with Shadow. It's not just Knuckles playing the punching bag. I could see it being similar to Knuckles himself in the second film, where the characters start off getting creamed but as they adapt more to his fighting style they have a better chance against him.
