Lyrics: Now I'm just a bartender And I don't like my work But I don't mind the money at all I see lots of sad faces And lots of bad cases Of folks with their backs to the wall But I need four walls around me To hold my life, to keep me from going astray And a honky-tonk angel to hold me tight To keep me from slipping away I can light up your smokes I can laugh at your jokes I can watch you fall down on your knees I can close down this bar I can gas up my car And I can pack up and mail in my key But I need four walls around me To hold my life, to keep me from going astray And a honky-tonk angel to hold me tight To keep me from slipping away Now, the smoke fills the air In this honky-tonk bar And I'm thinking 'bout where I'd rather be But I burned all my bridges And I sank all my ships, now I'm stranded at the edge of the sea I still need four walls around me To hold my life, to keep me from going astray I need some honky-tonk angel to hold me tight To keep me from slipping away
Amy Grant is the bartender of this song. NOBODY sings this song like her. With that whiskey voice of hers she is all of the lady bartenders I worked with for many years. Love her.
Gloria put it into words for me. No matter how much I love George Jones and have most of his music, I get the same experience of chills when Amy Grant sings Bartender Blues. I have watched the entire show of Georges 50th almost every night
before I leave this earth its my dream to just go to one more show, perhaps play the guitar and sing a little with her back stage. She led me to God and with out her music I would have never been able to survive the loss of my husband and my entire family
James Taylor wrote it. And his recording of it is the stansard by which all others are compared. I love many of the covers but please give all the credit to James. He suffered for this song!
If Amy Grant went country she would turn country music inside out. This is the very best I've heard this song done. Yes even better than the man himself and I think George Jones is the greatest ever. Amy just does something to this song. Fox..
I heard this on TV for the George special, and I was blown away. Any said she had always liked this song, but it did not fit into her concerts and she was glad of the opportunity to perform it. It introduced me to this great song, and it so fits the raspy quality of Amy's voice.
I would not know Amy Grant to be a christian singer or a blues person. But she feels this song and gives a great performance in her facial expressions and her bluesy voice. Love ti
Amy actually introduced me to this song at this tribute to George Jones. I heard her sing it and I was blown away. I hadn't heard her sing the blues like this before. This is my favorite version of this classic. I actually think she outsings George here!
i dont even like this song but this is probably the twentieth time i've clicked on this video in the past year, simply because she looks freakin amazing here!!!
Never tired of listening to Amy Grants version of "Bartenders Blues". One can feel the emotion of that song when she sings it, her voice her facial expression and everything else that convey whatever the feelings and emotions of this song.
I saw this on TV when the special aired, and I was blown away. I respect Amy, but have never been a big fan of her music; this one blew me away though. I had never heard that bluesy quality in her voice. Love this performance!
Amy you blew me away the night you sang this ! I didn't know what to expect begin a true lover of country but always giving others there chance too! YOU GO GIRL!!!
Oh my God, I love Amy's voice, so touching, I love the way she sings this song, I could play it over and over again. I just get chills down my back..shes' awesome.
Wow Amy Grant:she does come a long way, moved away from the POP industry, for gospel takes a lot of faith she have my respect since the 80s keep going Lady
I TRULY LOVE AMY GRANT. I'VE PLAYED THIS SONG HUNDREDS OF TIMES AND LOVE IT JUST THE SAME EVERYTIME. IT'S SO COOL HOW AT THE VERY END OF THE SONG SHE GIVES US THAT BLUESEY YEAH. FAN
Never get tired of watching her signing this song. Amy's presentation of George's "Bartenders Blues" just bring to a new level of emotions, for me that is.
Singing a beautiful, heartfelt tribute to one of country music's biggest influences is sinking low? How? What an honor for her to have been asked to sing one of his biggest hits.
Great song.. only love of God can hold us not to go astray.. when we be faithful to God and our loving spouse then lots of blessing come from above. My prayer to God never let anyone to go astray ..because life is precious.. sometime true love also be misunderstood . God protects His children from all evil
Sounded great. For the life of me, I can't understand why some folks expect a singer to sound exactly like someone else. If they all sounded the same, there would be no room for individual expertise. I prefer to listen to a performer and to appreciate their uniqueness and the personal style they emit to the audience. I do admit, sometimes I just plain don't care for some various occasional performances/ renditions, in which case I just move on without seeing the need to disparage them.
Patricia Rookstool Hi Patricia, I have Amy Grant singing this song, it was on a CD called George Jones and friends. She is fantastic no doubt. Hope you find it. Cheers Rosie.
Lyrics:
Now I'm just a bartender
And I don't like my work
But I don't mind the money at all
I see lots of sad faces
And lots of bad cases
Of folks with their backs to the wall
But I need four walls around me
To hold my life, to keep me from going astray
And a honky-tonk angel to hold me tight
To keep me from slipping away
I can light up your smokes
I can laugh at your jokes
I can watch you fall down on your knees
I can close down this bar
I can gas up my car
And I can pack up and mail in my key
But I need four walls around me
To hold my life, to keep me from going astray
And a honky-tonk angel to hold me tight
To keep me from slipping away
Now, the smoke fills the air
In this honky-tonk bar
And I'm thinking 'bout where I'd rather be
But I burned all my bridges
And I sank all my ships, now I'm stranded at the edge of the sea
I still need four walls around me
To hold my life, to keep me from going astray
I need some honky-tonk angel to hold me tight
To keep me from slipping away
Thank you
If there ever was perfection in a cover. This is it.
I like it better than Jones' cover of the song .

Brava to Amy Grant for stepping outside her usual zone and owning the stage!
Definitely one of the best versions of this song --- anyone who ever tended bar can probably relate to this for sure.

Amy Grant is the bartender of this song. NOBODY sings this song like her. With that whiskey voice of hers she is all of the lady bartenders I worked with for many years. Love her.
George Jones disagrees
Amy makes this world a better place..
She sing this all throaty and no one can match this version!
Wish Amy would sing more blues
George Jones is still the King of Country music but Amy Grant owns this song. This is an unbelievably great performance.
James Taylor, who wrote this song, owns it
It was perfection!
Gloria put it into words for me. No matter how much I love George Jones and have most of his music, I get the same experience of chills when Amy Grant sings Bartender Blues. I have watched the entire show of Georges 50th almost every night
Nobody does Bartender's Blues as good as Amy Grant...the emotion and feelings are authenic...
Amy sings the song great but George Jones lived it!

That cute little "yeah" at the end. Beautiful performance!
Even singing the wrong words in the chorus she recovers and makes it better!!!
I’ve listened to different artist sing this song. But Amy Grant is the one I like the most. I listen to it several times a day.
Im a great guy but Im envious of Vince Gill.Off course he deserves Amy
She is literally the only one that received a standing ovation with everyone on their feet for this song. Such a beautiful voice ❤❤
before I leave this earth its my dream to just go to one more show, perhaps play the guitar and sing a little with her back stage. She led me to God and with out her music I would have never been able to survive the loss of my husband and my entire family
So sorry to hear of your loss.
God Bless You.
That's so very sad and beautiful.
If you like her you would probably like jason crabb also
Can’t deny it, Amy Grant’s performance here stunned me. The best I’ve heard in years.
I am not surprised that the audience stood for her ... what a performance.
Amy hit that one out-of-the-park. I'm sure George would have been pleased..
James Taylor wrote and recorded this song before George did his cover. I’m sure James too is pleased.
James Taylor wrote it. And his recording of it is the stansard by which all others are compared. I love many of the covers but please give all the credit to James. He suffered for this song!
She's got the most beautiful voice on the planet and her beautiful music is why I love country music 🎵🎶🎼🎶
If Amy Grant went country she would turn country music inside out. This is the very best I've heard this song done. Yes even better than the man himself and I think George Jones is the greatest ever. Amy just does something to this song. Fox..
And when I heard that honky-tonk Angel, that girl now she can rock like I said, I love her for life, so gifted so beautiful hallelujah. Amen.
If you would have told me she could own this song I would have laughed.
George Jones sung it Way better than she can!
Love ti
Wow a fantastic rendition of this song. Love it
Love this version of George Jones song.
She is singing about an Angel with no halo and one wing in the fire - what emotion!
Amy actually introduced me to this song at this tribute to George Jones. I heard her sing it and I was blown away. I hadn't heard her sing the blues like this before. This is my favorite version of this classic. I actually think she outsings George here!
She was incredible with this version, but I don’t think anyone one Earth could have out sang George.
Written by James Taylor, covered by George Jones and many others

Christopher Riley but, it’s George’s song. Even though James wrote it.
Amy Grant is aging so beautifully. She's looking younger every time I see her and very elegant.
