Learn how to change the fork seals in a Suzuki GSXR 1000 motorcycle. We found a leak in our fork seals when we saw residue under the front fender and on one of the legs of the fork. John shows you how to remove the fork from our Suzuki GSXR, then disassemble the legs of the fork. Next, we’ll replace the fork seals on our GSXR with new parts from Suzuki. Then, the process shifts back to reassembling the legs of the fork and setting the fluid level in the legs. When we get the legs put back together, John shows you how to reinstall the fork on the GSXR.

You ever been confident you can do something then watch a video and you're not confident anymore? So it's not just me??? Ok thanks!
These videos are so helpful, that's really the main reason I buy my stuff from you guys because you offer so much value, not just parts Thanks, Guys!
The detail of these videos are by far the best on RUclips. Thanks.
This was a freakin awesome tutorial! This saves the motorcycle community and its enthusiasts some cash when we can do it ourselves 🤙🏽
Thanks PARTZILLA!
Great info!!!
Just did fork seals my self on K6 GSX-R 1000. First fork was like 3 hours but second was like 30-45mins. Incredible how easy its to do with the spring compressor, damp rod puller and oil level set pump thingy.
i did this on my 06 hayabusa and it was easier than I expected. And I made the tools I needed. Used a wood jog in a bench vise with a car jack to compress it. worked good enough. sketchy but the budget minded might like it. It was a new bike after. Gonna do the same to some 2006 GSXR 1000 forks I just bought for a conversion on an SV. This is a good video covering the steps!
Thank you Partzilla and John Talley, the video was great and really helped me a lot, i just finished doing the seals on my k7 1000 and all went well, replacing the seals themselves was the easy bit, the hardest part was getting the forks off the bike as i had to remove the top fairing, was a great leaning experience though and something i wanted to learn so thank you again for the helpful video
Will we be seeing any more videos about the gsxr 1000?
Man your so awesome love how you work and explain this bike
Excellent video! Gave me the motivation to go for it myself. Greatly appreciated. Probably saved me 300$. My manual says 21lbft for the fork cap to locking nut. I have a 2005 gsxr 1000. Same 11mm height just requires more tourqe
Buenísimo. Muchas gracias por este maravilloso tutorial.
Thanks. Very professional sr. !!!!!!
Grazie, ottima spiegazione dettagliata, ora posso eseguire il lavoro con più sicurezza.
Beautifully done and said sir. Thank u for the quality content
Absolutely excellent explanation
Thank you
Just got done with the job. Wow, way better response. I had them done when I first got the bike by some shop. The oil they used was way too heavy and the levels were off. Your far better spending the time to do yourself. I used maxima 5 weight oil
Closest to Lo1 Suzuki oil
Good luck all. It's kind of a big job and very time consuming if your a good job kind of guy like myself. I know many that ride. Mostly Harleys and none of them actually maintain there bikes like there supposed to. This was worth the time, money and effort. Get the OEM kit. That's the best out there
Thank you so much for this video! I’m doing my 06 750 this weekend
Thank you for this video...was able to replace mine this weeked
Great tip with using the ratchet straps.
Worked for me.
Glad it helped
Very nice video! Thank you.
Dude your awesome I have 2.. 2007 gsxr600s keep it up plzzzz.
excellent video thank you...
Ratchet strap idea was great!
very very very very very very very veryvery very and very HELPFUL!
Great video as always. I don't watch no others unless they don't have it
Exelent exelent exelent!!!
I did the fork seal replacement on the 2008 Kawasaki Z750 from my cousin a few months ago, and the suspension is pretty much the same. I made the special tools myself
Bruno Ribeiro ,,,treeman32935@gmail.com ,,would you please share your homemade fork tools please?, I just can't see paying someone else to do work on something that I ride and the knowledge you have may benefit me too. By the way , I ride a 02 model gsxr 1000 , ,,,ride safe guy .
How did you make them?
Perfect video, he’ll yeah , saved me so much money
Nice video thanks
For those having issues removing and installing the lower triple clamp bolts, the easiest way I found was to use a 1/4 to H6 bit (not a 1/4 socket to hex as it's too long, its a specific bit you can find in a few kits.) that I found in my gearwrench kit (80944), then use a 1/4 ratcheting straight or flex box end wrench on the bit to remove and install the bolts (you can find this bit in other kits, harbor freight sells one). There's not really enough clearance to use anything else unless you want to remove the air ducts. No you're not going to be able to torque it to spec unless you want to remove the fairing and air ducts. Just get it nice and tight.
Also at 7:30 I found it way easier to use a seal driver (if you have one) or a right sized socket to gently tap the seal into place then slide in the inner. No need for the special tool.
Speaking of special tools, I bought the fork service tool kit for inverted forks by traxxion dynamics on amazon for $70 bucks and everything performed well, no need to spend over $400 on the factory tools. You still need a vise that's attached to the edge of a bench and a ratchet strap. And yes you're basically going to have to ALMOST fully ratchet down the spring to pull up the rod and insert the holder at 4:25, yes there's a lot of tension.
Other than that great tutorial, thanks!
Thanks for sharing this! Do you mind sharing the link to the tool kit? I couldn’t find it on Amazon. That’ll be much helpful. Thanks!
Good job , thank you so much my left fork leaking i wish that i can bring my bike to, you are master
Nice job sir🙏
Very helpful 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You don't need any kind of spring compressor. You can just remove the entire cartridge with the bolt at the bottom.
But it's good to know how to remove the spring from the assembly
How do you get the oil level right at the end without removing the spring? As the spring has to be left out as per manual? Just wondering
@@Mr.Studer Its a guesstimate, there will always be oil in the catridge so its important to get as much residual oil out and then refill to lower amount than what is mentioned in the manual. Plenty of writeups on how this is done online.
Great video has me saying HEEELLLLL NO I'm not doing it in an apartment 😂
Good job.......
nice i like it👍
Great vid! How is the bike secured in this video? Can I have a link to the frame that goes over the stand? K&L product?
this is the video to watch
Thank you. Ima tackle this project this weekend hope it goes well. I dont think most local shops will take the time to do this correctly.
Donnelle Brooks how did it go?
Pearling Aquatics
It went surprisingly well. The first fork was tough but I took my time and the second fork went much smoother/faster. Theres no way I'll ever pay to have this done again. This video is the best by far.
Sweet. I'm going to give it a shot. Local shops want 400 dollars for the job. I think I'll save that money for my tune.
Pearling Aquatics yeh it's crazy best price I got was $375 and I'm sure they wont get air out before putting everything back together.
Thanks for the excellent video. After watching it, I tried the job on my 07 GSXR1000 and ran into one problem that didn't seem to cause you any trouble. With the spring compressor bottomed out on the outer fork tube, I had some trouble getting the damper rod pulled up far enough to get the retainer under the locknut. I had to pull up on the cap and rod with a fair amount of force to get clearance. I had an even harder time in assembly because I used a "universal" rod holder and had to screw the locknut further down on the shaft to get enough thread for the rod holder. I really had to lift up with considerable force on the rod to get clearance under the nut. Question: did you have to remove the air ducts to get a socket wrench to your lower triple clamp bolts? Thanks again for the excellent video.
You shouldn't have to, though they are a little tricky to get to.
this is tough!
Definitely not as easy as it looks.
Hello great Video buddy you really helped me out. Any chance you could name the stand that has the bike in the air. Please and thank you
Are those tools are relevant for Suzuki GSX-R600 2004 also?
Use some painter's tape on the fork cap nut. That will keep from rounding the corners of the nut and preserve the look of it as well.
Good morning boss I have a CBR 600rr (2014) would you say it’s the same process???
Thanks for these videos, some about cleaning of electronic injection would also be very interesting.
Just run some injector cleaner through your gas. You really shouldn't have to do more than that.
Partzilla thank you, that´s exactly what I do, 6 in 6 months I use an additive. A thorough cleaning is deal when buying a used motorcycle without knowing its history.
SV Souza the fuel tanks in these are terrible for rusting, my k7 1000 rusted twice in 1 year so keep an eye out for that first because injector cleaner wont do a thing if the pump is just sucking crap
Mine if full proof now and back to being an animal pushing out over 170+hp :D :D :D
I had to buy a new (used) throttle body for a 600-750 engine swap. It was super dirty, but I removed the electronics and ultrasonic cleaned the throttle body and the fuel rails. After that, fuel cleaner should definitely be fine enough for injectors, though I admit this is a little extra.
Fuel injector cleaners from motion pro are $180 for those who want to go the extra mile!
what spring hardness should be mounted close to the original? maybe a little harder. motorcycle is gsxr 600 k4. I mean the front suspension
Do the tools work for any inverted forks?
Would the the parts list be identical for a K6 1000?
how do you know to set the damper rod at 11mm? does it say in the manual? also where can I buy one of those tools @ 10:48?
Is this going to be the same for a 2012 GSXr 750?
Were can i get that tool that you use to compresse the spring ?
NICE WORK AND PRO EXPLANATIONS....How To Service a GSXR K4 Rear Shock??? Not much explanations for the service on road bikes --- thanks
How did you clean the sludge out of the fork?
SALUDOS, ME PODRIA INFORMAR CUAL ES EL EQUIVALENTE DEL ACEITE DE HORQUILLA SUZUKI L01 EN OTRA MARCA , PARA USARLO EN UNA MOTO VZR1800 O M109R GRACIAS POR SU ATENCION
I’m probably going to buy a naked bike next. Just because I’m tired of taking fairings off my bike.
What about bottom fork 10mm allen screw, I watched videos where unscrew that bolt and there is not need to compress spring?
Seems like a much simpler method.
DO NOT twist the forks back and forth when removing and installing them. That will scratch them bad! Gently use a flat screwdriver to spread the triple clamps open a tiny bit, and they’ll slide in and out easily.
Is it the same for a 2012 Gsxr 1000?
Esas herramientas sirven para hayabusa 2009??
Ah balls to that haha Ill send it to the shop.
How long does this job normally take?
Can you get a part number to the special tools that you need? I have a 2001 Suzuki GSXR 1000.
Would anyone happen to know the dimensions of the damping rod holder in regards to the inner diameter and thread pitch?
Where do you get a lift like that and what's it called ?
Buenas, para realizar la consulta de como se llama la herramienta con la que baja el distanciador del muelle
Where you get the measurement tool for fork height
For those are really fussy about the condition of their bike like myself make sure you put something on your sockets like a rubber glove so that it does not scratch the nuts and that's the same with screwdrivers used rubber glove to cover it so it doesn't destroy the beautiful look
Great video! just made me cry a little when I saw that top nut get destroyed so thanks for the advice!
There are some scraches on the black tube in 8:33. I have same scraches on mine gsxr. Should I put new inner tubes or it is just normal ?
It's normal, just means you got some dirt in the dust seal so it scraped the finish. If they are deep enough to cause a leak, then you may need to replace them.
How much air space/gap should there be between the top of the fork & the oil level on a gen II hayabusa?
532ml is capacity. 93mm from top.
Hello. I need to change the seals on my 2011 gsx-1300r. Is the installation basically the same?
Essentially it's the same process
Did you use OEM replacement parts or aftermarket kit?
We use OEM parts for this video.
I need this job done to my gsxr 1000 2009 i live in pa any location
Great how-to video but it should recommend torquing the triple clamp and clip on bolts to the proper spec. Over tightening these bolts WILL affect fork performance.
Not only that it will ruin the tubes. Over torqued bendsthem and there is no fix but to buy new tubes.
I was wondering, why install the seal with the stanchion in place, why not put the seal in right after you take the old one out? It's just as easy and doesn't require another special tool.
How much oil in that suspension???
Where can I get the Gauge to measure fork height
Is the damping rod holder the same for a 2002 model?
The forks are different, but I'm not sure if it uses the same holder.
Great video guys Can you specify which types of seal grease do you guys prefer , as I am indian and racetech grease is far-off my grasp. Please specify NLGI 1,2,3 WHICH IS SUITABLE ,and is silicone grease or lithium or regular grease will work without causing leaks
You can just use some fork oil if that’s all you have. The lithium will work too. I always put a baggie over the end of the fork tube before installing the seals just in case any sharp edges might cut the seal. Can’t be too careful.
Will all of these same parts apply to a 2005 GSXR 1000? This looks like a 2012 or something like that.
The bike in the video is an '07. You can look up parts for the '05 here.
www.partzilla.com/catalog/suzuki/motorcycle/2005/gsx-r1000
This didn't work on my '03 1000. I couldn't compress the spring with the strap. At least, not far enough.
I did all of that
Can you also do a ohlins FGK 219 fork? 1199S
We don't have access to Ducatis.
Are the parts you used OEM or aftermarket?
OEM parts for this video. We always try to use OEM for our repairs, unless they are unavailable from the manufacturer or for carburetors, we will sometimes use aftermarket rebuild kits.

How much oil for each fork
What the price of this suspension
Hi. I have a 2006 gsxr 1000. Manual says fork oil level 101mm, your video is 124mm. Shall I go by my manual? Thanks.
101mm is the correct fork oil level for the 2006. We worked on a 2007, which requires 124mm.
How do I adjust the idle
What’s something like this cost?
6:19 isnt that seal the wrong way round?
Why not uninstall the fork from the bottom screw of the fork where hydraulics is locked?
How do you get oil level right at the end, and bleed the system, just curious
Toooop
are those the same parts for the 05?
For the most part. I just did mine last night and everything applied except a couple of the screws were 10mm bolts instead of hex, and the oil level should be 101mm for the 05 1000. Also do youself a favor and get the seal kit instead of buying each part individually - Part No. 51150-41810
@@russup5251 is there a cheaper option for oil and will one quart work?
NOBODY ever explains how you align the rotation of each fork so that is square and pointed straight ahead. Everybody bolts in on from the top of the triple tree and the forks miraculously line up perfectly straight and then the axle and wheel go right in smoothly. Do you make index marks on the fork to establish a baseline alignment? Or do you have a fixture that squares up the fork alignment? If it is crooked, there will be torsional forces on the fork, axle and wheels and the bike does not ride straight.
The fork is made up of two round tubes essentially. They rotate freely essentially, other than some resistance from the spring, seals, bushings, etc. Therefore the fork bottoms essentially are self aligning when you assembly your front wheel and mudguard (fender) 👍
Around how much does a job like this go for?
Depends on the dealer/shop. You can call around and get quotes
About 300-400
You may have destroyed your seal already by not protecting it from the inner fork tubes sharp edge.
Well, I did not...but it is something to pay attention to. :D
How can you protect seal when putting it on?
Butcher. Look at the damage you’ve done. Christ on a bike.
