I don't actually play Cities:Skylines but I love to watch.
Every time you place something and the terrain screws up, you have a conniption.
You move it, replace it, smooth, remove dirt, replace dirt. Over and over till you're satisfied.
Biffa does it, Yumble does it. So I assume most do it.
Are there no items or mods that are Retaining Walls, Terraces or Boulder Banks?
This would seem a good solution to most of the terrain issues that people seem to have.
But again I'm just speaking from outside the game.

Those "storage" tracks may find a future use as bypass tracks if necessary.
Also, I agree with the people suggesting that you separate your cargo and passenger rail earlier. Even if you already have it planned for a later episode, it seems to me that it's better to get that separation set up as soon as possible.
Anyway, I'm as always excited to see what you will build next!

  • @TheJMBon

A good tip for rails: Later in your games, you'll rail traffic can easily becoming congested due to the double rails used at 13:40. Use single rails that are one way and just make a large loop. The congestion problem happens because of the way trains are programmed to enter and exit stations. Heavily congested stations can easily get a train 'locked' at the station and cause a backup on your lines. Single direction rails prevent this.
Also, apart from the rails that come already placed on the map, keep your freight and passenger rails separate to further reduce tge chances of train gridlock.

  • @noahkohn9350

I think you could solve the zoo visitor problem if you place a small pavilion on the zoo side of the bridge with side gates to enter both the zoo and the amusement park. Amusement park visitors would exit the amusement park onto the pavilion and then enter the zoo through these gates (or vice versa). Replace the zoo path bridge with an amusement park bridge for continuity’s sake.

  • @TheRealJupitz

About the death wave. The game used to have a bug that when you build residential zone and people move in, they all are same age and they die at same time. That causes a massive spike on deaths and could cause problems. There's a way to minimize this and that's building residential zone slowly and only when there's a demand for it. Like when you see a small demand bar for residential, you don't go build 16 blocks of residential zone. Just worth of mentioning.

When placing zoo enclosures that come with their own path going around them, couldn't you just use that path as _the_ path? I think that would look better than having parallel paths, which seem a bit redundant. I haven't played any DLC though, so I'm asking.

Not sure if you noticed but when you deleted your old Poop Outlet Pumps, after putting in your new ones, you broke your electrical grid as the pylons were no longer connected. Think the old Poop Pumps were acting as the bridge. You can see at 9:07 in the video the blinking icon showing you the broken connection. This may have been why you suddenly had your power fail and needed to put down those wind turbines.

I think what I've been missing is doing stop signs instead of 4 way lights down that main drag. I don't even remember that being an option last time I played.
I think for me the next step would be unlocking the blocks down the industrial side and taking a highway all the way down. But what you did cleared up the traffic so much; I'm surprised how much that helped.

39:12 Imagine driving all the way from another city to visit an amusement park with your family. When you arrive, you realize that it is located directly next to a bay full of raw sewage. While enjoying one of the rides (and trying to ignore the horrible smell) you suddenly hear some chill lo-fi beats blasting out of the sky as god himself reaches down and erases the road you parked on so he can finish the fence around the amusement park. Your car disappears too, and you find yourself trapped in the stinky city with no way home. You decide to visit the zoo.

"Hello, welcome back to City Planner Plays. Where we are creating The Ultimate Beginners Guide to Cities: Skylines by creating the city of Tutoria. Or perhaps I should say by destroying the city of Tutoria because in this episode we're going to be taking the population from a /staggering/ 40 million+ to zero by introducing the Natural Disasters DLC. In the previous episode we actually gained the largest population boom on record for Tutoria, and we're going to strategically negate that with just the click of a button. However, as any self respecting city planner knows, you can't just plop a tornado down all willy nilly. You must predict the path of most certain destruction. To do just that we'll be sloping the terrain to create a perfect- Well nothing is perfect. We'll be creating a funnel to the best of my ability to guide the tornado into our cities most population and travel dense areas /AND/ will be following it up with a flood that /should/ wipe out most, if not all, of the population. Let's get started."

May want to consider adding a side gate to the zoo from the EggSperience - ie, on the bridge. That should allow park-goers to transition from one to the other without having to walk around. (Unless it doesn't fit, of course.)
Also, it looks like the bus route from the terminal to the zoo isn't being used any more, as the metro line completely canibalizes riders from that route. You may want to consider checking it, to see if it's still useful.

Lane Mathematics: For that stretch of highway between offramp and onramp, remove a lane. That way, the only ones in the right lane are those taking the exit, instead of all the traffic, due to the C:S traffic AI being not very smart.

Funny this is that last year I went to a natural reserve and the guide went to explain how they kept human at the absolute minimum, never touching anything outside the path. If a three fell, they would only remove it if it fell into the path, and even then only the part of the try that fell into the path.
This is to say it was a bit funny to imagine that while seeing you do some minor terraforming for your nature reserve.

These tutorials have been IMMENSELY helpful in building and managing my city. Great content, excellent editing, fantastic information. Do you have a list of recommended mods that create sort of a Vanilla+ feel rather than an entire overhaul? Thanks!

    • @CityPlannerPlays
      @CityPlannerPlays  2 года назад +2

I'll be covering that in a video, but Vanilla ++ roads and some of the visual enhancement mods will still keep things pretty vanilla

@@CityPlannerPlays Excellent to hear and thanks for the response. I've heard that there are lane and node customization utilities and stuff? I hope you cover what you consider to be quintessential mods for your non-vanilla playthroughs!
