If you've missed the last few episodes, we decided to buy a cabin, move into it and get comfortable for the winter. It has been a LONG 4 years of self building our home and it's time we start living again. This cozy cottage is exactly what our souls needed!

How did we end up here?
It all began with a year of full-time travel, embracing the van life until the world shifted, and we had to adjust accordingly. With travel no longer an option but determined to stay productive, we transformed our compact mobile abode into a self-sufficient off-grid dwelling that fulfilled all our needs. Recognizing the uncertainty of the current tiny home, we quickly realized a permanent residence was the most sensible choice. Over the past three years, we have meticulously overseen every aspect of the project ourselves, planning the construction while simultaneously setting up the off-grid property to sustain our future food requirements. For the last two years we've lived in a Geodesic Dome, which has allowed us to be comfortable (expect for the winter months), while we realize our shipping container home dream. However, this will mark our 4th winter with stable electricity, running water, or a flushing toilet and time has come to come up with a new plan going forward.

I don’t think I can remember a video where Charlie, Eddie, and Squirrel had so much screen time...they were definitely the stars of this one🤣…like we said in the video, when we picked up the camera this week we had an entirely different plan. 1. Thank you for giving such a loving, safe healthy home to your Charlie, Eddie and Squirrel. So many pets are less fortunate. Love to see the love.
2. The relationship between the two of you is so developed, so centered, so weathered, so warm. It's obvious you have been together happily a long time and worked through the pitfalls we all experience in relationships. Thank you for providing a (admittedly a small window) glimpse of such a loving, joyful relationship. Enjoy it so much second hand.
3. Your work ethic is amazing. You surely deserve all the wonderful fruits of your labors.
4. Any child would be lucky to have you both as parents. Such a wonderful examples of how to make a path in this sometimes crazy, sometimes wonderful life we live. To grow up with parents who know the value of laughter and love and communication and a desire for learning is the best way, IMO.
5. Hunch/hutch! Gotta love the word play.
6. Your videos are so beautifully done, edited, thought out. I know it takes a lot of time, but the effort shines so brightly. Thank you.
I love seeing the dogs so happy. I lost my little BFF on Monday. She would have celebrated her 17th birthday in June. She had a great life but this past few months she declined quickly. Found out the week before she left me that she had lymphoma. So please keep showing how wonderful it is to still have your boys and Squirrel. The house is looking fantastic, too!
My condolences. It's so hard to lose one, no matter the age, but almost 17 years, that will be quite an adjustment for you. I wish you peace and wonderful memories of your little buddy.

😪 so sorry 17 years is a lifetime with somebody. I wish I can🫂 you. Only comfort I can offer they are around and still watching over you as my Aunty Golden Retriver to us. He passed away over 15 years ago and when we moved back in 6 years ago Otto appeared in the window one night. It was so comforting.

Whoo-how, that dim green is gone!!! The white just brightens the space soooo much, beautiful and fresh. But I actually really like the hutch, it looks like a treehouse built around a tree, the inside support column. It does balance the cabinetry in the kitchen to create a complete look. I’m sure you’ll make it rock with whatever you put in it, maybe put lights on the inside, make the dining area romantic at night. Love the table, chairs, rug, and chandelier. The perfect addition to the dining area. Maybe buy a couple of white fake fur throws to put on the dining chairs that your kitty likes to rest on. (Helps with the shedding)

Tyler, the second best thing that I have ever done in my life was therapy. Many years ago, (28) to be exact, I was in group therapy and one-on-one therapy simultaneously for one year. What you shared on this vlog about therapy was so wise!! The healthiest thing that I did was for me to acknowledge that I am an alcoholic and I have been sober without a slip since 1989! I have been lucky to have helped many women get sober ( as a sponsor). I will be 72 in June and I am the happiest that I have ever been in my life! Bass River Chairs (AKA Dominion Chair) is a Nova Scotia staple. I personally remember sitting on little Bass River chairs in school in NB. Although no longer manufactured in Bass River, you can still purchase the furniture (even at IKEA).
The Dominion Chair factory in Bass River burned down back in the winter of 1989 after over 100 years building Bass River Chairs, now called Dominion chairs. The are built in Debert, NS since the 1989 fire. Because they were in business for so long, there are many chairs and rocking chairs in circulation still in the antique and vintage markets in Nova Scotia. Some of the most solidly built wooden chairs you will ever find. Iconic in these parts!

I must comment on how well the two of you work together in making your homes "yours". I must also commend you on how well you both work together in such close proximity to one another (especially when painting a room). If we work on the same room together, my husband and I need to be on opposite sides of the room at all times! Kudos, Tyler and Todd!

Maybe do an Infrared Audit of your Walls...1100$ in Electricity..you must have Walls that are not well insulated...its possible..

The windows in the sun room/office off the dining room cause a large heat loss. The big window in the living room doesn't help either. They need a large ceiling fan in the living room to push the warm air down in the winter (and up in the summer).

Personally, I would paint that corner cabinet and wallpaper the inside backing. Make it sort of a statement piece. Do what you can with what you’ve got

The hutch might be a little 90s but I will say as someone who is always looking at home design trends, built-ins are having a major moment again and people are seeing how useful and cool they are! I'm planning on ADDING built-ins into my old house that probably got removed back in the day. And the points you guys already made in the video itself about it matching the existing woodwork are also obviously solid points on their own! but what I'm trying to say is that everything comes back around again and you'll never regret keeping solid wood, high quality-made stuff!
