Matthias, You could give the chickens more protection by making extra hidingplaces in the field and put brenches or something in the ground with old cd's on top. Preditor birds will not land when they feel like someone is watching them (cd's shine/blink in the sun) and the less open a field is the less they will land in the field. They will only land when they are surtain that they can fly up again. They will not risk theire own life for a little bite ;) I've made little wooden tents in the past from pallets. The chickens love them. Especially when I put sand under it. They all would squeeze is to take a dustbath :P

When it was not yet possible to store all meat in a freezer, another solution had to be devised to preserve meat. Of course, it can also be dried and smoked. But it might be worth storing the meat in fat, for example, because it will last, and it will be very tasty! This type of preservation is worth doing for goose, duck or pork, it can also be a chop, ribs, sides or shoulder. Place the salted meat in a casserole dish or baking dish, then pour enough fat over the neck to cover the meat. Bake at a low temperature for 70-90 minutes. Once the meat has cooled, pour it all together with the fat into mason jars and keep it tightly closed in a cool place, in the pantry, cellar, refrigerator so it will last for up to a year.

Smoked goods can be preserved by rolling them in clean wood ash. Acacia is the best for this purpose, because this wood has the smallest particle size, so it creates a uniform coating on the outer surface of the smoked product. The salami is simply turned and rubbed with the natural substance, thus protecting the salami against harmful bacteria. The huge advantage of this method is that the ash does not prevent the white noble mold from creating a fine coating on the casing or artificial casing covering the salami, but thanks to the method, the shelf life increases significantly. The texture of salamis treated in this way is also completely different than if they were not treated with ash: the salami remains juicy even after long-term storage and dries out less. According to experts, sausage or salami treated with wood ash can be stored for up to 8-10 months. It is recommended to gently rub off the combustion product with a wet cloth before consumption, although this is not absolutely necessary if you are eating delicacy stuffed into an artificial casing.

Viel Erfolg! I haven't watched for a while, and have missed a lot. this episode is confusing - Why did the Chickens have to go to the village? They were healing a field that had something wrong with it? Was it for your parents? How did you collect the eggs when they were in the village?

I wonder if you could get a solid rubber wheel vs interlude style wheel possibly? In the US the have a mountain bike type of wheel that is much wider and looks sturdy. Fingers crossed you find a solution.
