One thing I'll always appreciate about Lustig is he uses every single penny of his movie's budget in order to make it awesome. Great independent filmmaking.
Sobering take on physical media. It’s interesting to see his very candid insight into the cold reality of boutique labels, money involved and whether or not they’ll survive years down the line. Doesn’t seem very hopeful. I’d hate to see a world where these labels can only survive by resorting to the streaming trend. As a fellow film fan, it was sad to hear that portion of the interview. But thankful for his honesty.
Maniac is 1 of the creepiest movies ever made. Still holds up to this day. 💀
Outstandingly awesome interview 'bro! He was one of pioneers of gritty guerilla filmmaking. Maniac was so famous in it's time and it's still clamored today. Thanks for bringing this talented filmmaker and boutique label founder to be interviewed. Cool video Heath!👉😃👈
All I had to see was BU + William in the title!
Wow Heath! You keep coming with these interviews I love.
Well done, Sir.
William Lustig is awesome!
The best guest yet. Would love to hear more about the glory days of 42nd St.
That would indeed be awesome!
Blue Underground might be the highest quality in my collection. Those lenticular covers are a treat
Thanks Heath and Mr Lustwig
Bill is like a firework, you light it and it goes off. Always a great interview. Your channel needs more people watching, you're never a disappointment. Thanks!
I agree! Help me spread the word! If you aren’t subscribed, that would help the RUclips algorithm pick up the channel and help get the word out. Thank you!
I found that to be a real treat! Thanks so much, Heath!
I am definitely a fan of Mr William Lustig. His films are fantastic and Blue Underground is a boutique label to watch out for. You can tell by the restorations and packaging that no expense was spared. I have every 4K film by Blue Underground to date and I don't plan on stopping. He is one of the pioneers of cult horror and one hell of a director. My film collection wouldn't be the same without the wonderful Mr William Lustig. Thank you very much for this interview Heath.
Greetings from Norway. Thank you for this extremely enjoyable interview! I have all Blue Underground 4K UHDs released to date. I regard these discs highly, absolutely reference releases in all respects. The Zombie 4K is in my opinion one of the very finest 4Ks there is. I hope Blue Underground keeps going for many years to come! Thanks again.
I love his movies. The man is a living legend. LOVE Blue Underground !
Good stuff. I've heard Mr. Lustig interviewed a few times and always appreciate his passion for movies.
Awesome interview! I laughed, I cried, I learned something.
The question you ask at the 50:20 mark is the best part of the whole video. Excellent interview.
This was a great interview Heath. Loved William’s insight on the industry and his passion for what he does
Thanks for this interview. You made me buy some Blue Underground 4k's movies!
Great interview Heath! Thank you for these awesome interviews!
Thankyou Heath. I could listen to bill for hours. I live in the UK and remember him talking on a documentary from the the 90s which was broadcast on British T.V about a Soundtrack of Maniac (1980) he sent to a friend over on these shores, this was confiscated by customs and pointed out the individual couldn't be named or the storm troopers would be round to break down his door:-) Definately a Director who wasn't given respect until now in Britain.
I'm pretty sure I watched that too. Was it on Channel 4 at about 1 in the morning? And so glad Maniac is finally getting an uncut UK blu ray release. It's about time.
@@marvinnashsear Your probably right but i saw it air originally around 9 pm?. Thanks for the feedback my friend.
That was a really interesting interview. Really hope you can have Mr. Lustig back on again to continue the conversation!
Awesome interview, such a fan of William Lustig films. Physical media forever!!
I don't kno about you guys but I'm still a big fan of anchorbay. Thanks for the great interview cheers from montreal
Great interview! I still have some Blue Underground DVDs that I've had since the early 2000s.
Amazing interview. Lots of information provided by national treasure, Bill Lustig!
As a lifelong horror film fan (and movie lover in general), I have much respect and love for William Lustig and his work, and I've very happily supported that work with my purchases, but I don't think he's right, *in terms of* applying his physical media take to the particular companies that he mentioned here, such as Kino Lorber and Vinegar Syndrome. He is right, of course, that from time to time, deals that the labels have signed expire, and when that time comes, certain films on Blu-ray do go out of print. However, these labels (Kino in particular!) are also able to renew some of their deals and release other films on Blu-ray and 4K, and they're also *signing massive new deals* with different labels, with many films becoming available to the public that have either *never been on Blu-ray at all, or have never been on 4K* , and fans are very excited to pay for these releases. I am one of them!
On the biggest online Blu-ray discussion forum, there are literally *thousands of pages of posts* (I can't even begin to keep up with all of them!) from dedicated fans of the output of Kino, Vinegar Syndrome, and other labels, and these fans are *putting down their money* to support these labels and keeping them not only afloat, but actually thriving. Some of the fans are *so dedicated* that they will even, seemingly, buy almost any Blu-ray that comes out from Kino, VS, and other labels. At my income level, I can't begin to afford to do that, to say the least, but I've been surprised by how, especially when there is a Kino sale, some fans will spend anywhere from $500 to over $1,000 *on one order of movies* alone-- and then, sometimes, go back for another order before the sale is over! I might be wrong, but I don't think that William Lustig is spending too much time hanging out on online discussion forums to see how labels, other than maybe Blue Underground, are doing financially-- and if he's *not* spending much of his time this way, that's to his credit, simply because he's too busy and focused on his own label continuing to be a success, *but* if he's not on these discussion forms much, then he also may not be aware of *just how active* these other labels are, with signing new deals, and putting out new films, and fans eagerly looking forward to them and buying them.
The smaller "boutique labels," such as Kino, VS, and others, will likely always be a niche market *within* a niche market, as far as physical media, itself, now being a niche market. These labels are probably never going to make the same amounts of money, overall, that bigger companies make, when they release a massive new blockbuster superhero movie on Blu-ray and 4K. However, as long as these boutique labels are still signing new deals, and releasing great amounts of films on physical media (which they do), and as long as fans like me continue to add many more of these Blu-rays and 4Ks from Kino, VS, and others, to their collections, I don't see why these labels will not continue to survive and thrive for many years to come. Sorry for the very lengthy comment here, but I just wanted to add my more much hopeful perspective on the future of *at least certain* physical media labels, as compared to William Lustig's (whom, again, I do support) seemingly near-despairing take on them!
amazing video. I'm a big fan of you+👍🔔
Great video 👍
This was fantastic 👏. Great.
Not that I have but I could talk with Bill all day. Always interesting. Good stuff. Kudos, Heath.
Wish I could meet The Great Man!🎃
Thank you both for the great interview!
Terrific interview 👏
I have many anchor bay produce but my MOST cherished piece in my physical media collection is the - Dawn of the Dead Ultimate Edition 4 disc set.
This was a very cool interview. More interviews please.
Heath such a great interview dude!!!!
Great interview! I didn't want it to end.
Why does no one ever ask Bill about Inferno? It's the most requested BU title right now for a 4K upgrade.
wow!
Brilliant!
It's the dad from The Goldbergs!
I was going to say the same thing 😂😂😂
Awesome interview Heath, Bill is never not interesting and honest.
20:53 LOL
What about Inferno???
I’m thinking it’s probably one of the films he can’t talk about that are in the pipeline
Inferno?
😊
Loved this interview! Thank you Heath. It's always great to hear from Mr Lustig. Blue Underground Channel: ruclips.net/channel/UC-0Cia5Ygqqd62d7mliaXDQ
Somebody must know where Edward Montoro vanished to. Isn't he on a missing persons list or something?
Much of these seems to be coming from a point of view of a heart broken artist, hence the doom and gloom. Very insightful nonetheless
