This was my favorite song when I was a little boy, and then I got to sing in the choir for this performance as a grad student. Life can be magical sometimes.
My father used to play the violin and I sang with him..He told me this is a plantation song! Sweet memories of days gone by with my dad who is no more ...Thank you! .
I'm glad you have those memories but he was mistaken. This song was written in Kansas and we never had slavery here. I'm sure it spread across the country and was likely sung on plantations, but it was about Kansas from the songwriter after he moved here.
I ne'er expected to find this song here. I'm very not used to it being in this style however, I'm surprised how magically inspirational this song could be!
I am so fond of this song I learned in grade shool. This is exactly how the song begins. Some singers in youtube just overdo the tune that it sounded out of tune anymore.
Not musically, it was beautiful, but this was a prairie song. It's meant as a campfire song. There weren't many world class opera singers out on the Frontier. Still, awesome song, and my State song.

It's his approach. His projection with sincerity. Bryn Terfel. OUTSTANDING. As is Andrea of course...this is quite easily PERFECTION right here.
This song is popular again and sung beautifully by Byrn Terfel, it makes you proud to be an american in these troubled times.
Very troubled times we are having, but these gentlemen put a song in one's heart. God bless them.

My father used to say the same. Good times! 😌🙏🏾
