Bit of a leap I know (doffs tinfoil)
Wow....I always love listening to your passion for the ED Lore. There is so much taken for granted within the ED game these days but unknown to a lot of commanders. I often imagine what the game could evolve into if THE lore was followed. Anyways nice work as always! o7
I've always wanted Guardian AI to be a thing when/if these permit sectors ever open up. Can't get my hopes up though... been burned too much lately. So much potential in Elite, underutilized.
This is a game that deserves a passionate development but the nature of games have changed, going from creations of art to that of business profit margines. Elite is probably the best example of how that model has corrupted the art and lead to a state of stagnation when the potential is so fast that if given the nurturing care it deserves could become a modern sci-fi epic the likes of Dune or Star Trek but that damn profit margin holds us back and I am a capitalist but this infuriates me because the fan base is there and wanting more, with a genuine love of the game but spurn them enough, this game will die and it's potential never fulfilled.
As you began your description of the Guardians, my mind was cast back to my first reading of Julian May's 'The Many-Coloured Land' novel from the 'Saga of the Exiles' series, featuring the Tanu race. I enjoyed your Guardian lore summary. Thank you. o7
I love the Guardians, to me they are the most interesting alien race in the game. It is a shame we will never get to see them. Sometimes I hope that some groups of Guardians managed to escape. Now they have been building their numbers and trying to recover. As they hideaway from the rest of the galaxy somewhere on a distant moon or planet. Anyways, thank you for you work Drew!
From a roleplay Perspective my commander is a guardian, disgused through technological means... He sees what Humanity is capable of and Fights to protect them from the dangers of AI....
Stuff like this is why I still love this game despite the poor decisions made by Frontier the last several years. I had no idea that the guardians were wiped out but their own technology. I thought they simply got tired of fighting with the thargoids and went back into isolation. Although the player base would be upset, it would be cool if the A.I. became a new enemy of humanity outside the bubble. Maybe there is a random chance that when you jump into a system a guardian equipped module ship will interdict and attack you if you don't leave immediately. I have always said that exploration in Elite needs to be more challenging till they properly implement the dangers of flying near a black hole and super neutron star.
What if Humanity is the Guardians? One lone Guardian ship found a 1g water world in a solar system of 8 planets in the inner orion arm. They landed took just the basics and sent their ship straight into the star BSG style.
Would be a plot twist if all this time the thargoids have been desperately trying to communicate with us to unite against the still present guardian AI in another region of space seeking to wipe out all life
Maybe we've already spoken to a Construct or two. Salvation seems to know stuff at ftl speeds, and know things they shouldn't. And over at Farseer Inc a curious "Other" signal shows up if you scan her hunk of rock. But you can't land at it. Or can you? Maybe it is at Farseer Inc and you're already looking at it. Maybe it speaks to you when you are landing in that machine voice. Maybe. But then again, who really knows?
the guardians and the thargoids are fascinating to me, slightly intimidating too. considering you are one of the official lore makers for elite, do you know if they might introduce any other alien races, maybe some that can be found in other sectors of the galaxy
as always @drew wagar great video I enjoyed lore videos and I agree with BrokenSilence how do we know that some of them didn't build a ships and travel to another galaxy or maybe floating around the void between galaxies or even one maybe a fringe group that saw the coming 2nd civil war and built new arks before the 2nd civil war that were completely cut off or new communication system so the AI couldn't track or infiltrate. I mean as far as we know if the guardian AI is still around it hasn't infiltrated humanity systems that we are aware of....
My theory is that the Guardians did not die out but left the galaxy for another or went through some portal which became known as Raxxla. We have no records of a homeworld or record of an extinction event and were clearly more advanced te technologically. I am guessing they left to escape the Thargoids to a safer place and may one day return.
Also humanity almost committed genocide against the Thargoids through the use of a virus which the Guardians with their history of biological and chemical warfare would have easily been able to do. The Guardians are out there and I am thinking the Dark Circle found them and Raxxla is the key. It is said Raxxla is a door and the key, a door to were? And a key to what? The door to where ever it is the Guardians went and the key is to the mystery of their disappearance from the galaxy.
Not sure if i can bring myself back to playing this. The new gameplay is just another way for more grind. Devs listening to a few hundred hardcore cosplay commanders has been the death of this game (we need toenail customisation etc) the latest large update should have focused on landing on atmosphere planets with lakes, weather and volcanos etc
I vaguely recall Mr. Braben assuring the community that the development efforts on the dinosaur park games would find their way into Elite for atmospheric planets with vegetation and alien animal life. That was some half a decade ago. I still refuse to buy into Odyssey for an undercooked FPS grind while players still get teleported out and back on their pilot seats without being able to traverse their own ships.
would have been nice to see in-game footage rather than re-used trailer stuff Otherwise : good to have a well read narrative (thou room reverb does make it feel off - maybe switching to a XLR dynamic microphone would help with it)
I'm surprised humans are still around we always deem something not us a threat and shoot first ask questions later. Where gonna come across a alien race that can wipe us off the galaxy map one day and then we are fucked
They tried there hardest to make peace with the thargoids The ai was wrong about them not being capable of no violence I personally think there not extinct just rn they are endangered
Wait, if the thargoids were instantly hostile to guardians but curious about us at first... that means the guardians tech already passed them off. Meaning something else older then the guardian used similar tech and had already passed them off🤔
I'll be completing my lore videos primarily. Once those are done (as there's not much in the way of new lore coming along thus far) I'm pretty much done myself.
@@drewwagar Well I hope to hear more from you in the context of the Elite universe. Your contribution provides so much richness to the experience. I am currently retracing the journey out to the rift in horizons trying to maintain hope that it isn’t really over. If Frontier manage to revive the game after the recent blunders and inactivity they would do well to put you in charge of a large portion of the lore building.
With that sort of Hyperspace tech, who's to say that some of them didn't retreat to another galaxy, and as we speak, plan their return?
Seems plausible. I would love to see them one day. Excellent work Drew! o7
Machines retreated to another galaxy, coming back to destroy all organic life - if only we had Shepard :)
@@vasniktel111 The guardians are organic but they seemingly got wiped out by their machines
@@hodnydylko Or maybe a part of them are still alive in magellanic clouds :)

We need your knowledge and story telling to save the lore of this game; and your voice in the codex of course!

Nice one Mr Wagar. I was unaware of some of that info myself. A great snippet of Elite Lore for all. See you out in the black. o7. CMDR Cadman100
It's always a pleasure watching your videos about the story of elite dangerous
Excellent as always Drew.
What an AWESOME video. Thank you! Posting now in forums. This game has so much potential... unexplored by Frontier. :(
From the master voice to my own ears. Thanks. That was very much entertaining.

We still dont know what the Mars-Relic is. So...who knows?
Would be cool to see
Makes sense to me
Brilliant, thank you very much! Most interesting!
Nicely done Drew

Pretty much gave up on Elite the game but have been enjoying your content surrounding it.

Desperately with gunfire?
Another great video! So what happened to the Guardian machines that wiped them all out?
This should be added to spotify ''podcasts'' ''story books''
Looks like the religious sect of Guardians got the last laugh ultimately, and were correct.
I have a question, do we know all we can of the ancient race? Or is there more to learn?
Maybe we've already spoken to a Construct or two.

If the guardians went extinct, it only spells bad news for us through the great filter theory
I somehow dont think, that the Guardians are extinct (or not totally). But I fear about their KI. This could get interesting in future.
Thanks loremaster :)
Guardians seem cool, would drink space Vodka with them
Beautifull !
I wonder how the guardians would interact with humans, with them being so similar and stuff

That's what I thought, there seemed more thargoid content than guardian.

Drew keeping the lore alive even when Fdev seems to have lost their way.
Just the the forerunners from halo
I can see similarities between Guardians and Predators
Also..... Please bring back console updates! We dont need odyssey at all. Just keep us flying and keep the things we could do up to date please
I feel like this lore is similar to Halo lore. Guardians = forerunners, thargoid = flood. Maybe raxxla is a halo ring 🤔 🤷♂️
footage doesnt really fit lol
D.O.A.
Ai was invented because it was the only way they could communicate faster then light not for warfare. If my codex memory is right
Dark wheel low efficiency gaurdians hmmmm
