This is as close as you'll get to seeing a man singing at his own funeral. Layne was a gift to the world and was only here to grace us for a short time but what a time it was. Thank you for reacting to my request. R.I.P. Layne

One of the stories I had heard about this concert was Laynes mouth had started to Rott from the repeated drug use. This can happen when people start having issues with toxicity in the body. You don't even have to take drugs necessarily, it happens to people with liver issues and diabetes as well. Anyway, Layne was very self conscious of the teeth and didnt want to do the show. So even though they had a multi-cam set up to capture the performance, most of the close up shots have the mic blocking his mouth and his wide shots are from out to the side or slightly over head so the teeth are harder to see because of shadow and depth to scale. Again, this is just something I heard over the years, so I can't validate it as true.

This song is a very honest representation of how Layne (the singer) felt about his issues with addiction. I love the 2nd verse because of how sincerely he talks about his "true self" being taken away from him.
This was one of his last public appearences which was a big deal at the time. The band hadn't been together for 2,5 years and the media was speculating that Layne would either not show up or absolutely crash and burn - as you ladies could hear, he was still all there. Great choice for a song. I would love it if you could listen to Down in a Hole from the same MTV Unplugged concert. The harmony between Layne and Jerry (guitarist) is amazing. Love from Portugal!

Ladies you are witnessing greatness. Layne was such a tortured soul and this concert was while he was in the throes of his addiction. But he makes this looks easy. I am a 30+ year card carrying member of the Grunge Era. I was 16 when all of the Grunge Era hit in 90 91. It’s still haunts me that Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam is the only frontman of the Grunge that’s still alive. They sang the angsty soundtrack of my high school years. RIP Layne, Chris Cornell, Kurt Cobain, and Scott Weiland.

Check out Mad Season, their song called Wake Up. Layne was the lead for Mad Season too. Mad season was a sort of super band, it was a culmination of the best artists of that time; from the drummer to bassist to the guitarist, vocalists all in one band...

He was so under the influence of heroin that he almost couldn't open his eyes because of the light. Between the death of his fiancée in 1996 and his use of heroin and crack from 1990-1996 did not help him. ''I know I did my best or what I thought would be right. I changed my number. This fucking drug use is like the insulin for the diabetic needs to survive. I don't want to see people anymore and it's nobody's business but mine. I know I'm dying. I'm not doing well. I know I'm near death.'' In 1998 he began stuttering and losing his teeth and weighed 86 pounds. Layne during this 1996 tour, sang at his own funeral...

Love for you to go back to the70s. In my opinion some the the best rock ever came from that decade. Kudos to those to current day, there are some really great sounds. I have a suggestion Loggins and Messina is the group, the song is Same ole wine. The perfect song for the world today. And in the video you did for ELP Trilogy I am fortunate that got to see them at Madison Square Gardens in new your after they pot out the album Works vol 1

This reaction was cute. The things you said were very generic. How do you say you don’t know anything about Alice In Chains without saying you don’t know the band? Lolol.
