Oh wow. I remember watching this show in 1996 and never saw it again. Wondered whatever happened to it cause it was good. Didn't even remember what the show was called, but i did remember the "Chigs" so I just looked it up on google and here I am. Dam I wish it were 1996 still.
Takes me back to the mid-1990's and working the late night 3rd shift.I would have this recorded on vhs and watch this show when I get home sometime after 6 am when the sun is rising up.
I remember this series and was hooked but it was difficult to catch. They kept changing the times of showing it. Not many people remember it. Drove me nuts the enemy was so elusive and mysterious, near impossible to catch. They had some strange land mine that gave off a lot of light and this did something to humans, don't remember what. Lot of fire fights on dark planets and moons and such.
I think this is one of the few TV series from the early 90's in which the special effects didn't age terribly. I would go for a sequel rather than a remake.
True, I feel as if a remake would cheapen the original by attempting to overwrite it. In a direct comparison, the history of Hollywood remakes suggests a high chance of failure. Plus, given how the series ended there is arguably a lot of potential to continue the story with some fresh faces.
@Mert Dekor, unfortunately the special effects would look crappy on a HDTV set: they were made by the same company that did the effects on _Babylon 5_ , IIRC (and the video was done two stops on the register, which is why initially it didn't look like CGI.)
I remember seeing the longer intro when I watched this on the Space channel (in Canada). I picked up the DVD set and was a bit disappointed they only use the short intro. :(
Prob my fave show! So many good lines, fantastic writing, barely a moment of bad acting, nothing corny, nothing that feels like American propaganda (90% of todays shows especially all the police, CIA, and other secret services/agent shows - complete and utter trash and US propaganda), great chemistry between all characters, great camera work and directing style, every episode is well done, and did I mention many memorable lines (especially from Hawkes and McQueen)? Noththing is over dramatised but that actually makes you feel more for the characters. Everything about Space: Above and Beyond is well done and that's why it's one of the only shows (especially recently) I can watch while actually caring and without cringing.
Except for the "Stay with the dead" episode...*shudders* but otherwise I agree, this show was great and showed real potential but like many potentially great things it was ruined by various outside sources...
as a kid i watched red dwarf and doctor who, i also watch star trek and TNG then i watched Space Above and Beyond, and i loved it. it changed what sci fi meant to me, i never seen anything like it. what a shame they brought it to an end. i loved this series, i loved this show. such a waste of potential. i will always remember this show whenever i re-run my sci-fi dvds, bladerunner, alien, terminator, etc, space above and beyond..... very underrated
It was one of those shows that deserved a better audience. in the mid 90's mist networks didnt respect good science fiction, unless it was syndicated or on the sci fi channel. they kept moving the show around. Look what Fox did to "Firefly". And yet the X-Files was the exception.
The stuff that is on TV now isn't worth shit. Why don't they run this again, get the audience all worked up and then create new episodes. Just like Battle star. I'm gonna watch these series again right now.
I know, the fact that the company that handled al the secret stuff during the war was also paying for the colony was always controversial. One of the most important episodes was the one of the Presidential election, references to the Lincoln Assasination made it very moving.
"Speculations say that the mammoth hit Babylon 5, despite it's inferior cast, production and scripts, muscled S:AAB off the air." Wow, sour grapes. S:AAB had it's strengths but that a pretty bold statement!
This was aired in England, late at night, so not big viewing figures- but a 'cult' following...aren't they the most loyal?... very disappointed to not find out what happened in the end!!
@Cyproduction It was me, rememberspace is my other account. Unfortunately, RUclips deleted it and I can't upload it either. It was on grounds of copyright for the music, and there would be no point to that video anymore without the music ;(
when i tuned in to bsg not knowing what it was i thought "could it be? did they remake the show?" then I saw the galactica and was still surprised lol!
Doubt that'll never happen now as the original show was a FOX production and FOX is now owned by Disney. And if there's one thing Disney are known for it's not giving a shit about any of the properties it owns that aren't deemed "successful".
I can personally vouch that this show aired in 1995. Why am I so certain? Because I remember very vividly as a child that I was playing outside one day and found a 1995 decal sticker for a license place, and I gave it to my mom because our car's tags had expired and we didn't have the money to renew them, and I used to watch this show w/ my mom and her then boyfriend.
which one the first or the second? I loved the original intro its what got me into the show..The other one I dont remember at all seems almost saturay morning character like but then again most sci-fi shows kind of are
Recuerdo esta serie juvenil espacial, la dieron en MEGA Pero tuvo un par de temporadas y la finiquitaron..... Los '90 solo intentaron continuar con copias de Galactica y Star War
Yes its true. When I was a kid I was always watching this when it was on. I cant believe Fox ended this tv series. If they bring it back which I doubt. They already know what to put in it for a story. Just make it where West is a squad leader now and new events happened like earth is messed up internally and someone in his squad isn't really human at all. Part Alien and part human and the Govt. knew it too. He was special and helped beat the odds against what was left of the aliens.
I never did get chance to see S:AAB when it aired but have since watched it and was horrified to be left in the lerch not knowing for sure if Vansen and Danfoose were dead and left wondering if there would be a way that Wang could survive, please Fox BRING IT BACK!!! peace negotiations obviousle went to pot but i for one want to see if we beat the Chigs and if McQueen can return to duty with prosthetics. sooooo sooooo gutted!
@crichtonIASA Yes it was. It was on FOX first, then after FOX failed to kill the show, it was picked up by PTEN for the last year or so, then Crusade followed, and that show tanked. PTEN also picked up the movies. When the show first aired, and for the first four years of the original run, I watched it on my local FOX 17.
wow, better than b5?its quite hard to compare the two,b5"s story and effects were light years ahead of saab, also i think b5"s cast were way better, however saab had that little certain something that b5 did not,mmm a higher budget me thinks........
I loved this tv show series back in the 90s I dont remember the "aliens" digging up human corpse and ripping the bodies apart. The "humans" fucked with the "aliens" on that one mission where they stole a chig bomber and bombed a "alien city" with dead soldiers on it, I never saw the rest of that episode and the one after it. The "ALIENS" didnt know what to do or look at when they saw this. It was kinda like a ruse or tactic and screwed with the "aliens" understanding of humans.
The chigs had no concept of afterlife. From their limited understanding of humans, they thought our dead really would rise up like some zombie army and attack them again, which was terrifying - hence dismembering corpses and otherwise desecrating human graves
3:16 PM 3/10/2014 Listen to the second intro. Its a synonym. WE DID THIS A LONG TIME AGO TO HUMANS. We bred humans to fight wars, that was there task in life. Back in the day each race had a task in life. That's how we setup the system. Blacks were forced to work in the mines, they knew that was there task in life too. Aryans got bred for warfare and fight wars around the world for the King/Emperor. Yes this is real. Invitros are artificial humans, they are ARYANs. Even the Kings of Atlantis were Aryan. ;)
Dark Matter got three seasons (out of a planned five)... and then was cancelled for performing too well, because it was licensed from Canada and Syfy couldn't make money off merchandising it, and didn't like how it had better ratings than several Syfy Originals.
Hey take solace in the fact that most of the soaps are dying off (because the people who watch them are also dying off) or because nobody cares about them anymore.
The main reason why FOX cancelled the show because the producers were trying to be more politically correct by putting in more minority characters, having more women and having a female commanding officer by replacing TC MCqueen. This show got axed right before it was about to turn into a disaster due to political correctness.
@Ephabia same for the FireFly series... Fox just dont know what's good... Sarah Conner Chronicles was another decent series... i'm just waiting for them to screw Fringe.
Not to mention Dark Angel, which they renewed for a third season and then changed their minds and cancelled it instead. Then they put Firefly in its slot and cancelled that too before the first season was finished.
they killed so many extras and main cast by the end of the show that it was practically another show...ending sucked a bit. Interesting one time watch.
Totally underrated series! Cut before its time! ☹️😒 Whereas the grossly overrated RDM Galactica (which was never much of a reimagining of Battlestar Galactica - appropriated the title and character names) completely ripped off Space A&B(!!) 🤬😤👎 and was allowed to go one for several seasons (all with diminishing returns) and unwanted spinoffs (like Caprica💩)!? ⁉️🤔🤷♂️
SAAB and BSG EQUALLLY AS GOOD I remember when WILL SAAB WILL BE ON when i was like 12 lol WHEN WILL IT BE ON!? lol INTERGALACTIC WEDNESDAY HOW I MISS THEE!!!!!! OuO GRIPPING

one of the best scifi-shows ever made. after over 25 years this epic story still kicks ass.
Your comment made me feel nostalgia for memories that aren't mine. :)
That's pretty awesome. :)
That Starship Troopers vibe. :) I miss this show - '90 and early 2000 had the best sci-fi shows. ;/
Fighter pilots? Space Carrier? More shows like this please!
Those bastards killed the show cause they fucked up the time it was aired
I remember this series and was hooked but it was difficult to catch. They kept changing the times of showing it. Not many people remember it. Drove me nuts the enemy was so elusive and mysterious, near impossible to catch. They had some strange land mine that gave off a lot of light and this did something to humans, don't remember what. Lot of fire fights on dark planets and moons and such.
Oh your talking about the episode "the enemy". I found it last night on Dailymotion: www.dailymotion.com/video/x62uuuh .
I think this is one of the few TV series from the early 90's in which the special effects didn't age terribly.
I would go for a sequel rather than a remake.

@Shiruani, there would have to be a remake of this show, because there's no way there would be a reboot due to it being a cult niche property/TV show.
great show to bad fox cancelled it after the season one
This show should have never have gotten canceled. It was written for 5 seasons.
Loved the TV Show as a kid. I m looking forward to re-watch it tonight.
"all of us must rise to the call, above and beyond"
I remember seeing the longer intro when I watched this on the Space channel (in Canada). I picked up the DVD set and was a bit disappointed they only use the short intro. :(

Yep, that was a great episode, Hawkes gave such a strong performance
Inspector Kido brings me here.
Holy, completely forgot the second intro, way cool thanks for upload
I will NEVER understand to this day why Fox cancelled this well written and engaging series, a missed opportunity to make some real action SCI-FI.
They did the same with Firefly
as a kid i watched red dwarf and doctor who, i also watch star trek and TNG
then i watched Space Above and Beyond, and i loved it. it changed what sci fi meant to me, i never seen anything like it. what a shame they brought it to an end. i loved this series, i loved this show. such a waste of potential.
i will always remember this show whenever i re-run my sci-fi dvds, bladerunner, alien, terminator, etc, space above and beyond..... very underrated
when i saw bsg the re imagined series my first thought was how similiar was to this series
1 of the best scifi shows on tv in a long time.
Oh I cried when this was take off!!!!!
One of the most defining series of Sci fi and barely anyone knows it. In 2019 i say this...we are 30 years before this atleast.
"Space" was well ahead of its time. BSG is quite similar, aired about ten years later and is a success.
Frankly the reimagined BSG was like the spiritual successor to this show in many ways.
It was one of those shows that deserved a better audience. in the mid 90's mist networks didnt respect good science fiction, unless it was syndicated or on the sci fi channel. they kept moving the show around. Look what Fox did to "Firefly". And yet the X-Files was the exception.
I love that the title is blown up.
Hell yeah Bill buchanan is badass! will def. buy this on dvd down the road looks cool.
Hope you got the DVD set. The show is great and is pretty much one of the many inspirations for the reimagined BSG that came years later.
i'm actually rewatching this show right now!
Whoever on FOX made the decision to cancel this show had better already be fired!
the speed is enhanced.,... wjhay?
@Bladestar7: The reason 'The X-Files' survived was because it was a mundane's (non sci-fi fan's) show. That is the only true reason.
Its 2018 and i just realized that part of the Intro Music is from Tschaikowskys " 1812 " Overture, Op 49
@brainsare Too bad :(
It was a great clip, would love to see it again. The music was just perfect with it. Damn RUclips :/
The stuff that is on TV now isn't worth shit.
Why don't they run this again, get the audience all worked up and then create new episodes.
Just like Battle star. I'm gonna watch these series again right now.
indeed another classic sci-fi show cancelled before its time
I know, the fact that the company that handled al the secret stuff during the war was also paying for the colony was always controversial. One of the most important episodes was the one of the Presidential election, references to the Lincoln Assasination made it very moving.
They need to remake the series this one of the best shows ever
I remember this show!
"Speculations say that the mammoth hit Babylon 5, despite it's inferior cast, production and scripts, muscled S:AAB off the air."
Wow, sour grapes. S:AAB had it's strengths but that a pretty bold statement!
Yeah, I enjoyed this show but Babylon 5 had many more dimensions to it.
This was aired in England, late at night, so not big viewing figures- but a 'cult' following...aren't they the most loyal?... very disappointed to not find out what happened in the end!!
I liked this show very much actually, too bad it got cancelled back then. Thanks for sharing this vid. :)
@Cyproduction It was me, rememberspace is my other account. Unfortunately, RUclips deleted it and I can't upload it either. It was on grounds of copyright for the music, and there would be no point to that video anymore without the music ;(
Loved this show - cancelled way too early. Thankfully we got Battlestar Galactica almost ten years later which was a success and a fantastic show also
@avi8r1: Both Babylon 5 and S:AAB had the same effects company, BTW (the FX look realistic, but the film was printed two stops down on the register.0
Beautiful...
when i tuned in to bsg not knowing what it was i thought "could it be? did they remake the show?" then I saw the galactica and was still surprised lol!
Watched it and would play the shit out of a xbox game adaptation of this movie
Netflix fancy doing us a favour and bringing this back?
Doubt that'll never happen now as the original show was a FOX production and FOX is now owned by Disney. And if there's one thing Disney are known for it's not giving a shit about any of the properties it owns that aren't deemed "successful".
I remember there was a clip about Shane with the song "Embrace - Wish 'Em All Away" it was awesome. Who made that clip?
back in the days when sci fi was awesome!
I've been reading that this show started in 1995, but I'm almost certain it started in 1993.

My favorite show is space above and beyond

just found the full series on region 2 for €10 thank you game stop
I kinda remember they cancelled it cause it was way too expensive
But we live in a different world. The 90's are totally different from the 10's... < totally weird to say.
Amava assistir!!
@Tablo Not enough viewers to recoup the production costs to charge advertising rates. It's all about economics.
I CANT WAIT FOR STAR CITIZEN
It's like those demotivational posters when I think of Fox xD.
Fox. Fucking up your favorite scifi series since the beginning of man.
Fringe is like 'X-Files' so it will be kept on the air, and the brainless mundanes will lap it up like sweet creme (or Hostess Twinkies).
the first intro was better.

OH GODDAMN THIS WAS ONE GREAT SCI-FI SHOW
SEMPER FI MARINE HOOOYAAAH
It was this show that made me wanting to be a spacemarine
Thanks to Space Force, now you can be
@@Trek001 yep, mos def
8:12 AM 12/8/2019 A race of artificial humans bred for warfare? Why does this sound familiar especially in a scifi show?
best sciFi serie ever! F***k for Star Trek! P**s off Babylon 5, Thats the real good stuff!
a great series
Yeah but the 2nd one is talking about something that you people cant see. Metaphor/synonym type stuff. I like the first one too.
@Neville6000 that and when they scheduled the show.
wow, better than b5?its quite hard to compare the two,b5"s story and effects were light years ahead of saab, also i think b5"s cast were way better, however saab had that little certain something that b5 did not,mmm a higher budget me thinks........
I miss these days...Seaquest, Space Above and Beyond, Earth 2, Time Trax, Star Trek Next Gen, DS9, and Voyager. Great shows.
I loved this tv show series back in the 90s

Actually, you would have to type "Shane's Story space" to find it now hehe
@Smitty1586 I watched all the shows, all the movies and own several.
Sadly Missed
@polyquaternium7 Hooyaah is the Navy Seals warcry. Marines have OORAAH
This show was cool.
@Cyproduction I managed to get it back up :)) just type Shane's Story into the search field :P
@grooveclubhouse so say we all!
@myrkjartn Babylon 5 and BSG GINO also were pretty true to actual space physics.

Why do all the best Sci Fis only have one season :(

I only watched one episode of this. It was okay. Pretty much just generic 90's action sci-fi in a poor man's Star Wars style.
@brainsare Awesome :DDD
@TimeGod12
Wow I though it was already politically correct.
@smoku46 :D sounds like you are one of the Star trek babys! :) peace brother and life long and prosper! :D
Star trek is so..... boring! ;)
@Smitty1586 wrong m8: all star trek can be 'boldy' summurized as the following:
TOS: to boldy seduce any chick within 5 lightyear
TNG: to BALDLY solve all shit in KNOWN space within 42 min
DS9: To boldly kill new life and wage war with new civ's
VOY: To go to the other side of the universe and see new aliens in alpha quadrant ships.... fed fighter in 4 seperate episodes alone
ENT: To boldy solve torrows problems today...
Tng was a sci-fi soap and voyager only survived cause of borg-ratings
