3:42, Fun Fact: Christine's Mom is actually voiced by Candi Milo, who isn't a stranger in the Scooby-Doo Franchise, since she voiced Crystal and Amber in Scooby-Doo and the Alien Inavders and Charlien (if I spelled her name right) and the Female Tour Guide in Scooby-Doo and the Monster of Mexico.
She also did work on other Cartoon Network Shows like Dexter in the later Seasons of Dexter's Lab, Ophellia Ramirez in The Life & Times of Juniper Lee, The Flea fron Mucha Lucha and Madame Foster & CoCo from Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends for example.

One of my favorite things about this particular Scooby Doo movie, Is that while the Scooby gang has solved mysteries that have more than one villain. SD: Stage Fright is one of the few times in the franchise where all the bad guys dress up in the same costume and or as the same monster.
And every time I see the part where Steve Trilby reveals his face, It makes me think that Daphne is right about Steve's real face. He may not be the most handsome man in the world, But he's good looking in his own right.

In short, my 4th favorite Scooby-Doo movie

Opening night, and you're ready to go
Ticket in your pocket to a sold-out show
Outside, the limousines are lining up in a row
Tonight, you're gonna have some fun
But there's a rumor going round,
    There's a phantom inside
A shadow and a mask as a cunning disguise
So if you hear a cackle find a place you can hide
'Cause tonight he wants to have some fun
You want to see your name in lights
Well this may be your lucky night
Or you might be in for a fright
    In this haunted place

Then get a clue and make your name
Just like Scooby and the Gang

Just like the glitz and glamour of celebrities
But nothing beats a riddle or a mystery
Yeah, tonight we're gonna have some fun
    Velma's got it figured
    Daphne's hatchin' a plan
Fred can make his trap with only rope and some sand
Scooby's eating snacks with Shaggy back in the van
Oh, tonight we're gonna have some fun

Gotta say, the post What's New era and the pre 13th Ghost shitty movie era was incredibly underrated. I always enjoyed this art style for the gang, a modern version of the classic design, and personally this is one of my favorite movies. I loved the story, although it has a ton of reverses to Phantom of the Opera, it had enough of a spin on it to make it it's own original beast, I thought the approach to the monster was great, having multiple phantoms and deciphering which one is who was fun to do, and honestly I just love the respect they had for these characters. In the post 13th Ghost era, they made the gang insufferable (Fred into a joke, Daphne into a weirdo, Velma into a science worshipper, and Shaggy & Scooby were okay). The way Fred is a real competent leader, how Daphne is a sweetheard, Velma an actual detective instead of a "mOnSterS aRen'T reAl, iT dEfYs sCIenCe!" I also appreciated the setting being in Chicago instead of some random town, I enjoy when they actual dedicate time to where the mystery takes place, similar to the original Direct to Video movies. Overall, one of my favorite modern Scooby Doo movies

Having Fred and daphnes romance in the spotlight is great too. Like you I would say all the scooby Doo movie that came after this era have become less funny, cleverly weapon and cartoony. Andrew Lloyd Webber's _Phantom of the Opera_ is one of my favorite musicals, but I didn't know it very well when I first watched this movie (and I can't believe the film's over ten years old). The references are definitely something to appreciate when re-watching this, and you made an excellent point in how they made something new out of it as opposed to straight-up adapting the plot. Instead of sweet Christine Daaé who's a poor victim of the Phantom's obsession, you have a spoiled brat who's aware that Daddy's helping her cheat.

This movie is so weird to me. As a kid or young teen this was the second to last movie I saw on DVD. I remember my mom wanting me to get it when I showed interest of it because she is massively into broadway. I remember enjoying it but also thinking it was confusing with all the phantoms. I love the idea now as an adult due to how it uses the scooby trope of multiple suspicious people and actually has nearly all of them be the Phantom one way or another. And that cop questioning the crowd does show they are a bit self aware to it. The Fred x Daph stuff did kinda annoy me a bit when I first watched it. Since MI kinda made their ship way too overly used. But rewatching it it’s fine and cute especially the way Velma looks at the audience like “oh no who could have scene that coming?” . Again it was actually funny stuff. So overall not one of my favorites but I can see the appeal

You made a couple errors about Leroux's book actually:
8:00 in the novel the Phantom/Erik never kills Carlotta. He does threatens Carlotta with disaster though and so when she performs instead of Christine she begins croaking like a frog midway through (its hinted the Phantom had something to do with it and the 2005 musical movie actually shows him switching the bottles of that throat spray; this is actually what the movie/Stage Fright is referencing at the scene showed at 7:54).
Then of course the chandelier crashes down and kills a woman who was to replace one of the Phantom's favorite staff members; "she is singing to bring down the chandiler"-- the phantom (if you don't get it: the phantom knew the chandelier was going to crash and thus indirectly kills the innocent woman).
After that Carlotta leaves the opera out of shame and embarrassment (and probably fear)
10:26 also as far as I remember the phantom never reveals his face, Christine just takes off his mask after she got kidnapped (the first time)
11:15 technically this is both right and wrong: the phantom does not directly murder the man, rather the man was investigating the phantom and fell into his home's torture chamber (huge red flag) which is meant to drive one to the point of suicide by an already prepared noose (in case you don't get it: the phantom/Erik in the book is not a good person evidenced by his threat in the Grasshopper or Scorpion part of the novel). But the Phantom is definitely to blame for his death because he had a torture chamber meant to make the prisoner k*ll themselves and knew the man was in it but decided to not let him out (at least as far as I remember), so I would describe it as indirectly murder.

I remember seeing this movie one time in 2015 online as a kid and I was very dubious about the movie. I stopped watching these films after seeing the Samuri sword in 2009, which I guess it bored the hell out of me and I went in with the mindset that this will be just like every other Scooby Doo film, economically viable for Warner Animation and their studio. And in a way, it is, but something about it felt like that it was trying to end the franchise as a whole.
There's nothing new about the relationship between Fred and Daphne, it's already been played as a joke before, and most of the time it works. Here though, something about it speaks out differently, through the sappiness of the balcony scene, it kind of shows how the characters tick, which is something that I have never seen in Where's My Mummy or Chill Out, and with them going out together I thought they were going to go in this direction where they'd admit to each other and leave the gang with just Velma and Shaggy left to work together with Scooby in doing what they do, until the end of time. Sadly they didn't, which I'm personally fine with, the actual ending doesn't sugar coat the whole experience.
Although the writers didn't intend to do this, I got the impression that they were trying to make the film speak with bewitching buoyancy, to nothing less than the purpose of living and the mystery of life, it's not enough for them to do a High School Musical rip off with Scooby Doo slapped on the product, they have to put in an underlying plot of just loving someone for who they are, and Fred and Daphne basically represent that while the other three just carry the comedy. So in the end, I was actually surprised where they took this film, it turned out to be something I liked, not master cinema or "oh let's watch this again, but on crack", but just something I liked.

I thought this one was okay. Just too many phantoms, honestly I would have gone with just three, the original one from the 70's, the one trying to make Chrissy win, and the one committing the actual crime. Three is a solid number and would of been a bit better and easier to keep up with. This one was okay, the fred and daphne relationship was cute, sneaking scooby into the show was funny. just an a okay movie. looking forward to your next video, if you wish to do something lighthearted you can always review a pup named scooby doo, another one of my favorite scooby doo adaptations.

Well then I guess im not on my own with slowly moving away from Scooby Doo around 2014. Im only 18 but my momnsaidbid been obsessed with Scooby Doo since I was a baby, i have so many photos of me with Scooby plushes and pajamas as a toddler. And every year all the way until I was 13 I had a Scooby themed birthday. So trust whenni say I'm a Scooby Doo expert I mean it. I've watched every new movie coming out and all of the older ones ( Zombie island on top) , so it wasnt so much that I was falling out of love with Scooby Doo, but so the world was. Because I remember when everyday checking the tv guide and seeing when the newest Scooby Doo movie would come on. But my family was already in the inevitable switch of changing from cable to streaming so I lost track of when new movies coming out, but not only that I also. Noticed that they were slowly getting less and less interesting. So I just fell out of the loop with new Scooby media and hated it. So I've seen almost every show and movie except for everything after the WWE movies and shaggys showdown

In college I kinda lost track of a lot of things I was watching (including Mystery Inc despite loving it) I need to check this one out. I am not really a Fred x Daph guy but it's not bad or anything. I am the weirdo if I got a hold of Scoob would have it be her and Shag, Velma with Marcie (though HDW would be introduced maybe a bit later), and Fred would be asexual. for Daph I'd probably take a bit of her stuff from What's New Scooby Doo (thrill seaker, trained in self defense) and a bit of her depiction in the Scooby and Batman Brave and the Bold crossover for her personality.

I liked this movie and its nice this video mentions all the references this movie uses. I think the multiple phantoms angle would have worked a bit better if there was more collaboration between them? But I do agree the multiple reveals was really overdone and not make me rank it as high as other films I have seen.

When I see the part where it's revealed that Chrissy's dad is one of the Phantoms, I always found it stupid how the Scooby gang didn't suspect Chrissy's dad from the start. I mean I know there's a scene where the gang say that her parents are the only logical suspects, But they never really questioned which of Chrissy's parents would've been desperate enough to go as far as to dress up as the Phantom and thin out the competition to increase Chrissy's chances.
I know it's dumb that I'm making such a big deal about this because no one really cares. But I'm just saying since Chrissy's parents were only logical suspects, Instead of just one of them being the Phantom it could've just as easily been both of them since both Chrissy's dad and mom had everything to gain from making sure she won.

I want to know if you can make a video on physical media and what's the best route to collect Scooby-Doo on physical media

    • @Scoobytopia
      @Scoobytopia  6 месяцев назад +4

I probably could, but it's likely not too helpful. I had to make a tumblr post a while back on how to collect just what's new and that you have to get the individual season sets because the complete series set is ironically missing three episodes, and either way it's cropped instead of the original wide screen aspect ratio. And then for season two of the Scooby Doo show officially, you have to collect a bunch of random releases to get individual episodes because it never got a complete release. It's a lot of hassle to try and complete this franchise. Which obviously a video trying to make it more easy would help, but the mess just might be too big to really make a cohesive haha

@Dashiell777 some of them are stuck exclusively on Tubi, which at least is free, but super random. Sucks that the franchise is so spread out on both physical and streaming media.

This was a great movie but they way they played with how Fred and Daphne felt to each other was kind of dull. They could of let it went through where they open it up to each other but then they left because there was another mystery to solve.

Honestly I don’t like this movie because the more one than one phantom was far too much and it was annoying that they made all the female suspects innocent. Scooby-Doo needs more movies where the culprits are all women with no men (reason why The Sword and the Scoob was a relief for me)
