Amen on being “invisible” - I actually quite like it! I’m 66 & enjoy being unnoticed. Thanks for great comedy!
What an engaging, intelligent, courageous woman. I'm so glad to have met her in this special program.
Thank you so much for posting this! Initially I was so sad to see on your website that you are no longer performing and not available for podcasts or interviews, but after seeing the ending of this performance, I now see that you're just enjoying a well-earned retirement. From 'I love my shunt!' and 'Julie where are your mixes?' to these endearing stories of your mom in her later years, thank you so much for the laughter and tears. You have been given a wonderful gift. Sending so much love from Portland, OR!
Thank you so much. xoxoxo
What a wonderful talent! Julia’s sense of humor lines up perfectly with mine. I really enjoy her nuanced delivery which allows me to savor the joke. I’m my wife’s caregiver from 9pm to 7am everyday and her observations on her mother certainly resonate with me. At 70 I’ve experienced enough life to be able to appreciate the alchemy of joy, sorrow, victory, disappointment and wonder that constitute this journey. I’m grateful I can laugh at the absurdity of our human condition. Well done Julia - thanks for sharing your story and providing me with an hour of laughter and edge of my seat anticipation of what comes next.
Wow, my heart is with you in caring for your wife. Thanks for the compliments. xoxo
Thank you for this. It helped me so much.
@juliasweeneymeh I've dated a Irish Puerto Rican. She was very racially awared identity as well to the point of being a racist 😉
Julia, thank you for sharing your life and path with us. I adore your humor and humanity
Thank you, Julia. Your candidness in your shows has been a real joy to the rest of us just plugging away at life and its absurdities. I hope you remain well and all the best to Mulan.
Thanks so much!
The speed with which my fingers did click! You were my touchstone through my own cancer journey, and you have been one of my favorite funny voices since I was 10 years old, loving Pat, and watching them with my late Grandma. Thank you for this, and for all the laughs. Enjoy your peace and love!!
Thank you so much! xoxo
Oh, my goodness! What a brilliant, genuine and heartfelt swan song by this extraordinary talent! Her “Pat” character on SNL made me laugh, but this touching personal tale made me cry, too. Especially being reminded of my Aunt Pat (ironically) who was in a Spokane assisted living facility until she died of dementia. When I visited, I had to patiently explain that my mother had died some years earlier over and over again. It’s a real gift to find the humor in something so heartbreaking.
What an amazing talent. So full of heart and irony and just pure fun. This surely is not your last show and stop calling me surely lol.
Aw... thanks!
Thanks for making this available. Such good material.
All I can add is- thank you for sharing your life with us. You are a gift.
Julia, I am in my twenties and I’ve been reading your books which led me to your “God Said, ‘Ha!’” Special and now I’m here. I think you are wonderful. So thoughtful and funny and intelligent, I really adore you. Thank you for all the warmth and art and creativity and inspiration you’ve put out and continue to put out into the world. This is another great special ❤
I realized I first saw you when I was a kid in Beethovens 3rd haha
Wow, thanks!
I loved doing that.
Thank you for sharing your life with us in such an intimate, poignant, and hilarious way! You have always managed to get a huge GUFAH out of me and I am so grateful for the laughs! You are a GEM. Wishing you all the best in the days to come! Love and Loss... ah Life! Thanks again. XO
Wow, thanks so much!
The entire show was a work of talent and a solid offering, but that ending....oh my and wow....that ending...what poetry. Many women of a certain age will be touched at the soul level by the poetry of that ending.
Wow, this really made my day. Thank you so much. xoxo
i agree
I had the pleasure of seeing you a number of times at UnCabaret in L.A. when I was helping Beth out with seating people, etc. It was a true pleasure to watch you every time you performed. “God Said Ha” is an amazing show and this, your final show, is something to treasure. You are so talented and will be missed. Thank you for all that you have given us. Wish you the very best and more!
Thank you so much!
Excuse my ignorance but I've just realised Julia was in Frasier as the character Ann Hodges and I LOVED her / you in that!!!!! The dinner date episode when Frasier "ate all my ravioli's" is still something me and my girlfriend joke about to this day, no jokes! Such a funny woman. SO glad I found this!!!! :D
That was probably the high point of my entire acting career. Really! At least in my enjoyment of the entire experience.
@@juliasweeneymeh thank you for replying :) Well I certainly love you in that role!
Two or three years ago I listened to an old episode of This American Life on which Julia was a guest, and ever since then I've wanted to hear more of her takes on life. It was revelatory. (I'd been a fan as a teen in the '90s, but wasn't aware of her later solo work.) Every few months I'll have the thought, "I wonder what Julia Sweeney has been up to? Is she doing okay?" That thought happened today, and I am so happy to find out that Julia is very much well and still creating. I too have been down that road with a parent with dementia, and I'm really looking forward to sitting down with this special when I can give it my undivided attention. Her insights are not only funny, but both unique and relatable. The world needs more of the voice of Julia Sweeney.
I am just so glad right now. It has truly made my day that I can look forward to watching this. Right on.
Her "Letting Go of God" performance was such a big part of my younger life when I was trying to reconcile being born into a very religious family and my own personal beliefs that were changing. Through comedy and lots of laughs I realized I wasn't at all alone in my journey. I'll never be able to thank her enough. I am going to listen to the American Life episode b/c I don't remembering hearing it. Thanks much!!
It's funny throughout, I hope she does more specials in the future, this was so good 🍿🍿🍿
This show is a gift to the world.
Wow, this is a big compliment. I'll take it! And thanks, xoxo julia
Thank you. Really enjoyed your show.
I’m only a few minutes in but this will be my evening! You’re just good at talking to us. Thank you, again. ❤
Why, thank you so much. xoxo
@@juliasweeneymeh Because it’s the right thing to do? 🤪 You da best! You’re one of the very few things I miss about Twitter.
Thank you. Watching from Alaska. 🕊
Julia, thank you!! Can't tell you how good it is to see you again.
Oh thank you!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! The story of Julia Sweeney's mother asking how to screw in a lightbulb has lived in my brain, since the late 90's.
in "some special way?" :)
@@DanSteadman that bit never gets old for me. ;)
HAHAHA! I'm glad she could bring you joy!
A wonderful show, thank you so much for sharing! I helped cared for my aging grandmother and we would tell her that her grandpa (deceased) was out working the fields when she asked about him. Her mind was in a different decade and she would calm. They farmed for over 40 years together. My friend works with dementia patients and says it's best to tell them their loved one is away for the moment rather than say they're dead if the reminder upsets the patient. I'm glad the thought of Heaven brought your mother peace.
Thanks for your comments. Yeah, I really came around on the idea of heaven being comforting for some people. xoxo
Wow! Again.
That intro was the perfect follow up to 'Letting Go of God', which I've just finished watching.
"Believe in yourself" I'm so happy that your journey brought you to your rightful place.
I listened to God Said Ha, In the Family Way, and Letting Go, over and over, on repeat, for years. Every once in a while I'd look to see when the next one came out, and it didn't seem to happen. The world has felt distinctly Julie Sweeneyless and that has been indubitably a lesser world
I realise the she's been here the whole time, but I couldn't find her, apart from a bit part in Brooklyn 99, which was just a delight.
I've missed you Julia. So great to see you again ❤️
I just watched “The Trouble With Angels” last night! It certainly brought back memories of simpler times! 😂
I love that movie.
Thank you for posting! I’ve always loved your humour & storytelling. I absolutely broke down hearing the last line; both beautiful & heartbreaking as a fan. Wishing you the best Julia!
You are so welcome! xoxoxo
So proud that u are from our great state of Washington..Thanks for all the great stories and laughter threw the years ...If u tour more I hope to catch a show and if not I just wanted u to know U are great and we love all u shared with us. I hope u have a fantastic retirement and rest of ur journey threw life .
Thank you so much!
Thank you Julia. Thank you so very much.
This was INCREDIBLE! 💜
I really loved this, thanks for making it available :) Letting Go of God was very important to the adult I ended up becoming and I still go back to it often. Much love!
Jean-Pierre Rampal was my muse! So I played the flute and won the high school State of Oregon solo contest in 1985! And I got told that about my lips too. I think I'm related to Julia because my Great-Grandmother was Mary Sweeney who immigrated from Cork in County Cork, Ireland.
WOW!!!! THANK YOU!!!! I love this so much! Your work has brightened my life, and I cherish each performance. Sending you BIG LOVE! Be well!
Thank you so much! Sending love back! xoxo
NOOOOOO…. PLEASE, YOU CAN’T STOP!! There is so much more. Mulan has not had her family yet and you will be grandparents!!
Can’t wait to hear more, Julia.
🙏 ❤️
I never knew what a lovely, funny story-teller she is. What a great performance. ❤
You MUST watch "God Said, Ha!" It's one of the best monologues ever performed.
@@Ignatius_Lives I will look for that one! Thanks!
Thanks so much!
Great stories! Prepp’ing for a New York conference in the late ‘80’s, fate sat me NEXT to A young Miss Sweeney at a steak house bar in the small beach town of Playa del Rey, CA. NEVER forgot her! We playfully flirted and ate - Delightful person! I flew east the next morning. Now? I am FAIRLY confident she had been shooting a movie or something! And am VERY certain my being so nervous about a now-useless conference circumvented my chance to get to know a very SPECIAL lady! Followed her ever since she began showing up on youtube!
WOW! Well, thanks for remembering me. xoxoxo
@@juliasweeneymeh OMG. Such a sweet person! When Pulp came out I watched in Westwood and fell out of my chair the second you appeared on-screen. Unmistakably YOU! Still enjoying your tales of roads less travelled. Thanks for ALL your honesty, wit and wisdom and, most especially, for replying. (Tickled me pink!)
What a beautiful journey. Thank you for sharing it with us and just know that it's not over girl you still have a lot more traveling to do and you're still going to make people laugh.❤😂
Aw... thanks. I doubt it but who knows?
In Novemeber 1972 I was awoken at 5-am by my father. Who proceeded to dress me and take me for a walk around the local streets. (Relax. This was 1970's South Yorkshire in the UK. Absolutely no street crime.)
We wandered for maybe an hour and then went back to the house. Where I was introduced to my newborn sister! He had obviously kicked me out of bed as the midwife arrived. Thems were the days. Both my younger and older sister were home births. I was the only hospital birth. And the only one breast fed.
You are soooo funny!! Loved it!❤
Thanks!
Thank you.
Julia just keeps getting better. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
Oh Julia you had me weeping at the end of this. My husband and I started watching you at the beginning middle and finally our full reconversion from Catholicism/Religion. His Uncle a priest ans a beautiful man my dad a deacon another beautiful soul it was not easy. You so sweetly help your mama and reach her where she needed to be reached. I wept at the story in another video how at your father’s funeral you connected with the music and familiar ness of the church. We can too. We appreciate you and feel a kinship. Thanks for your gift to research document and beautifully explain how many of us have felt. 😊
De conversion not RE lol oh my gosh that would really suck hehehe
A wonderful show. I could listen to Julia talk about her life for a long time. And then watch it again.
happy to have seen this, i used to go to a Fox Theatre as a child also and some good laughing here.
I went back and watched all of her previous Ted Talks about religion. Julia is my hero!!!
Julia, we all saw "Pat" the way you meant Pat to be seen, at the time. And we all got it & luvd it. But things have changed so much for these kids(which is good, its what we were fighting for back then), and ya just can't explain the way things were to people. Its experience based, can't understand it unless ya lived it.
I was trying to get my daughter to understand my parents generation(born in 38 & 40), showed her things like All in the Family, Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts... oh boy the look of horror/disgust. I felt that flush of embarrassment, did the -but it was the way everyone talked then... Again, I'm glad its so different now they can't wrap their heads around it.
Thanks for posting this. I have always enjoyed your comedy and this was no different
Glad to hear it!
Omgosh..please don't stop..we need you an your funny..more please...your the best..miss you so much...
So good! Thank you Julia!!
You're welcome! Thanks!
Last week she was on Frasier, this week she is doing this and apparently I've been asleep getting old for 30 years. TF man?
I actually shed tears watching this. Yet again, thankyou Julia.
Wonderful presentation again. Thankyou once again, Julia.
PS: The problem with the label 'atheist' is not the lack of belief (which is all it is), but the stigma that has been built up about it ever since the Christians stopped.. being... atheists.
Yes. Christians were called atheist by the Greek. Part of the whole persecution motif they seem to like.
Thank-you Julia❤❤! 52 year empty nest mom former Catholic from Wilmette- I hand lived your talent since I first saw you in SNL* and Pat was a great character and hilarious movie- I watch it once a year!*I still love him/her😂 This was just so perfectly in your voice- you had me laughing wildly with the windows open while I clean the house! xoxoxo A true fangirl! ❤❤-Mary (what else would I be named)
Wow thank you so much! I love that you listened while cleaning, my favorite way to listen to things! Thanks MARY. (OF COURSE MARY!) xoxoxo
Wow! She's an accidental prophet in some respects.😂😂😂
Very Inspiring, Julia. Brave, honest, and full of thought provoking ideas.
As someone helping to care for a loved one with mid-stage dementia, your experiences are comforting and informative.
'Letting go of god' was one of the external sources that gave me support, as I was doing just that. Thank you.
Peace
Thanks so much!
SO good! I need to watch again just to laugh that hard again.❤
Thanks!
Your woman’s point of view has found the universal. Thank you!
I love your comment, thanks! xoxo
Yet another great show, Ms. Sweeney. You've been a heavy influence for me as an artist and shows like this are a reason why. Maybe I'll write and perform another one-man show here in Jax. If I do, I'll give you the credit.
Wow, thanks!
You have a laugh that is meaningful, I need to hear it more.
Why thank you.
Hej Julie !You are the best - love You Girl -please keep going and never stop 👍✌️.
I can’t count the number of times I’ve heard “Letting Go of God,” but it was fantastic. It really covers the journey (almost) all atheists took on their way to atheism: from belief to investigating alternate/New Age religions, to examining the Bible and finding it a ridiculous and immoral mess, to learning about science and evolution, to coming out as atheist. Just fantastic; Julia’s journey was every atheist’s journey.
This is great, too. I’ll only say: there’s a moment where she (perhaps unconsciously) slips into an impression of Lorne Michaels… something which I’ve heard everyone at SNL does, and which Mike Myers built his Dr. Evil character on. See if you agree, at 1:23:21 - “We love her, our Mulan.”
I've been waiting years for this
You have? Of wow. Well, thanks!
Absolutely brilliant.
Insight, exemplified, just so well done, it's amazing, bravo Julia Sweeney, bravo 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks. I needed that.
Sweeney would be an amazing voice actor for animated films
I agree! However, I have only been cast a handful of times...
@@juliasweeneymeh the fact you took the time to reply to little old me is the nicest thing that's happened to me on the internet. 😀
Thank you Julia. Just thank yo, love from Australia xxxx
I really really felt that. Thank you Julia
😂😭💖✨️
Thanks so much!
Thank you for sharing ❤
Thank you Julie. Near nature near perfect, great laughs. Welcome home from Nine Mile Falls.
She is such a treasure! Absolutely adore her!
Never say never. It was great.❤
Thanks!
Love the Bolling Flute sonata! That’s a deep dive but great piece!
Julia has ascended from comedienne to prophet concerning Elon and his rocket.
Man... it's been a *MINUTE* since I saw anything from Julia! :) And for whatever reason, the one thing that comes to mind is her cameo in "Pulp Fiction" alongside Harvey K. as "Monster Joe's daughter" (Racquel). I'm pretty old myself as well. All good, though; we all do whatever it is we're gonna do until we can't do nothin' no mo'! ;)
True that!
This is so good! 😂
Thanks!
A beautiful poem. Ty. ❤️
Julia, you're the best. Just the best.
I enjoyed your tales of what happened.
My pleasure!
I enjoyed your HUMOR !!!!!!!!

Her Elon story is so prophetic
I love these Sweeney solo shows. She’s like John Leguizamo- best in this format, despite all their other work.
Thanks!
@@juliasweeneymeh DON’T RETIRE

Oh the irony of how many times she says "OMG"...
HA! I know. I have to get over that phrase!
You are an AmAzing woman, Julia Sweeney.
Thanks!
Genius 4evah😮😂❤
Thank you!
I totally get the mother/daughter relationship. It's me too! Julia, I think we are sisters from different moms and misters.
