Sitting in front of my car now. Thank GOD someone had my exact issue replacing the pulley. So hard to find decent Subaru videos for my problems. Much love brother 🙏🏻
Ive seen most all of yours guys videos, and literally today my pulley split in two and this was in my recommended before i even searched it. Big shout out
you’re a legend thank you! Just picked up an 03 Z as a project car and my 07 impreza (my daily) decides it wants some work done to it aswell!! Made the repair 100x easier!
Thank you so much for this, my dude. Probably saved me hundreds doing it myself rather than paying a shop. Same process and part on my 08 Forester, only you have a lot more room it looks like. 😆
I'm trying to find out if it matters (cause I'm sure it does.)where the Idler pully is positioned on the bracket. In his video he called it a holder(sounds like a good name to me lol) but the long bolt the holder is attached to aligns with the slot in the bracket so the pylly can be moved up and down when tightening the tension for the belt. Does it matter where the pulley or holder is first positioned on the bracket and long bolt? It seems to be fairly at the bottom of the bolt and in the slot, but we've shredded two belt trying to do this so far and I'm not sure what we're doing wrong. We tightened the belt till you can only twist the belt 180° or straight up and down like another video said to do. Drove around fine, got home and found 1/2 the belt shredded off... any ideas or advice???
I see you zip tied it to the bracket to stop the annoying rattling I assume? Were there any negative affects from that? I'm in the same situation you're in and just waiting for the part to come in the mail.
I keep having the problem of my tensioner wheel hitting my timing belt wall, Is there any piece that separates the tensioner wheel and the timing belt cover?
Im curious what sound was it making exactly? Mines making this whining noise and its rpm related, im not sure if its tbe bearing inside of the compressor clutch or the pulley you replaced here
Just finished watching your video an realised that you were using a normal wrench. You should buy ratchet wrench honestly its one of the best tool you'll ever buy. Cheers from canada
1:55 those plastic piece always break when someone trys to release the tension on the belt without loosening the nut. I've done it 3 times and have learned my lesson after going to the dealer to get em haha
I’m in Australia and I just broke that plastic piece yesterday while changing the A/C belt. The part is called an idler pulley adjuster. I had to buy one from a Subaru dealer. Such a weak little part! Nice vid by the way!
I bought mine from NAPA parts..... got a metal one.... not more of that plastics shit from the dealer.... I may have paid a bit more at $40.00 but I hope to have this car for a while
I keep going crazy, looking at different torque specs for all of these different bolts and nuts and driving myself Crazy trying to solve my own belt chirp issues. But does anyone go by the factory torque specs? It’s true from what I’ve read the top bolts that hold the pulley housing to the block should be around 17ftlbs and the ones below 16.6ft lbs or some nonsense like that so your right. Not too tight.. but. … doesn’t seem like anyone does the torque specs. It’s like all feel maybe. Idk. Also the factory says to snug the adjuster up 5ftlbs after locking the pulley nut. Do I need to go crazy worrying about this stuff Ahhahaha I’ve gone mad lol Or was the the alternator that is snugged up 5ftlbs … What do you think?
Pauly P it is called an “idler pulley adjuster”. See this link for a diagram and other parts. www.subaruparts.com/auto-parts/2004/subaru/impreza/wrx-trim/2-0l-h4-gas-engine/cooling-system-cat/belts-and-pulleys-scat
Hello, im looking to buy subaru wrx or sti, i have money for wrx now but would it be worth to wait and get an sti? When u drove wrx did you feel that you were missing something? and i have read people say that they are totally different cars. thoughts?

FYI. Threaded adjuster shown in video is part of Dorman "Idler Pulley Adjuster Bolt Kit" part number 917-124.
Thank you! That definitely should be in the description!

spforsupergringo1980 actually it was a ratcheting wrench :) I just couldn't get that side in there with enough room to turn the wrench
I agree there were two spots where I had to use a offset box wrench as my ratchet would not fit.
Dope as always!
