- Welcome back to the channel
In this video I show you how to replace an AC tensioner and belt on a 2006 Subaru Forester all wheel drive automatic. This is something that you can definitely do in the driveway provided you have the correct tools. It is a problem with the Subarus that is often overlooked by many mechanics and owners. It is a simple fix and some preventative maintenance you can do provided you hear the bearing making noises before it chews up your belt. Hopefully if you were having the same issue my video helps you in fixing your vehicle and getting you back on the road with some nice cool air conditioning. Of course if it does please support my channel and work by hitting that subscribe button. Good luck out there and don't forget to leave a comment if you have any questions.
As always thanks for watching we will see you in the next one...
Had this exact failure on my Forester, your video helped me fix it, thanks!
I really like your tutorial. Very clear. Even I just watch it for fun.
Thanks Nancy
My tensioner looked exactly the same on me 02 impreza. Used all metal replacement from the 2010 forester. I used wire brush on pully surfaces
All the emotions you felt I felt😭
Those gloves! I need to know where to get those!? They are resilient.
Luckily I bought a case right before the pandemic off of Amazon. There are work hard HD gloves or something like that I can't remember but these are really good gloves. I think they come in green and orange.
can you post a list of all the things you used for this
God those bloopers were funny😂
Absolutely Awesome 👏 👏
Thank you! Cheers!
Every time you say don't break the bolt I keep waiting for you to say my name lol
One of these days I'm going to remember when I'm recording and I will mention you LOL Honda Fit camshaft sensor for life 😅
Hey man good video. What’s that set called, the one that you used to clean up the bolt and that aluminum piece?
Hi, the set that I used to clean out the thread on the bolt and aluminum piece is called a tap and die set. There are many different sizes for metric as well as standard. So try your best to get one with as many sizes as possible. Good luck
You are so funny! That’s what she said 😂😂😂😂
Lol thank you
Whats your feeling on the stretch to fit AC belts on slightly newer Subaru models.?
They're okay. Personally I like having a tensioner but I will say they are a decent option that last a while. It is a bit tricky sometimes to install and can be a real pain.
Have you seen the ac compressor actually touching the tensioner when doing a service? That happened with my Forester and the belt broke. Is it OK to drive without the ac belt, since we don't use the ac anyways? Thanks
I have never seen an AC tensioner touching the AC compressor. I can only imagine how that happened. Maybe the tensioner completely failed or the pulley wasn't fastened properly. It is okay to drive without the air conditioning belt. Of course you won't have air conditioning but it does no harm to the system or anything else. I would suggest though if the AC was working when you turn on your defroster it does help quite a bit to get rid of fog in the interior on a rainy day. That is really the only really great thing about the air conditioning other than it cooling the car. But you can definitely drive around without the air conditioning belt. Good luck my friend. Can you run it with out the tentioner ?
Hey, yes you can run it without a tensioner if you get a stretchfield belt that is the appropriate size for your compressor and fully. You can also run it without the belt of course your air conditioning will not work. If you're thinking of running it without the tensioner and the same belt it will not work and you will damage the belt and other stuff in that area.
Step one don’t buy a Subaru 😎
