What's the Difference? Mojave Rd. vs. East Mojave Hertitage Trail

Mojave Rd vs. EMHT? Join us as we have a fireside chat with John Marnell, expert on the Mojave Rd. and the East Mojave Heritage Trail.
Back in the 1970's and 1980's, renowned desert explorer Dennis Casebier joined with other desert enthusiasts in rediscovery and mapping of The 140 mile Mojave Road. The Mojave Rd. trail became widely explored by adventurers from all over the world. Casebier soon recognized that growing crowds and overuse of the Mojave Rd. could have negative impact on the environment and set out to create a new, 660+ mile trail appropriately named The East Mojave Heritage Trail. The EMHT created a more expansive tour of the Mojave and gave explorers the opportunity to experience the most remote portions and historical sites the Mojave has to offer. By 1994, Dennis had completed development of this new expansive trail and, with help from The Friends of the Mojave Road Organization published four detailed, turn by turn trail guides for each of the four EMHT sections. Soon after, The Desert Protection Act, that created the Mojave National Preserve was passed. The DPA cut the original EMHT by 75 miles and impacted 13 sections, pretty much rendering the guidebooks useless. Casebier's hard work, personal investment and sacrifice in creating the EMHT could have quicky faded into obscurity. In came Billy Creech who (with Casebier's blessing) spent 2 years remapping the EMHT and creating supplemental guides to the original guidebooks so that we can still enjoy the EMHT today.
