Fun fact: Witch Hunter General is most likely a reference to Matthew Hopkins, a real life witch hunter from the 17th century that referred to himself as the "Witchfinder General"
Personal note: I really like The Collector's theme; really good balance between childish and ominous. Season 3 is gonna be nuts and I will NOT be ready for it
Given the crazed curator of the Gravesfield Historical Society was Jacob Hopkins, you're probably on to something. Nice catch.
Hopkins was also a Puritan (much like the Wittebanes are implied to have been)-- in the actual American witch trials of the 1600s, many Puritan-driven witch hunts in New England **used guidelines written by Hopkins himself**. Aside from being a reference, I wouldn't be surprised if Philip is supposed to have been directly inspired by him (both in terms of Philip's characterization and Philip literally being inspired in-story).
I think Jacob might have an unpleasant encounter with the Belos symbiote in season 3.

Also, the fact that the Collector is just a really powerful child is so fresh and nice, because he's not aware of the consequences and context of situations, for him everything is a game 😱
Its kind of terrifying. Everything the titan did- hiding king, giving him that invisible collar thing, putting him in an extremely guarded place, potentially even sacrificing himself to trap the collector, all of it, it wasnt to protect from the titan trappers. All of it was SOLELY for the sake of protecting King from simply PLAYING with the collector. The collectors idea of childlike games were so horrifying the titan did all of that just to protect king from them

I'm still not convinced that he's not aware. I just don't think he cares. He was seconds away from murdering Luz and co, before King stepped in.
@@gaybatgosqueak that's because he thinks they can handle it, if you don't teach your kid the limits of certain things they are not going to be able to measure their own force, for example when I was a kid I thought that a stone and a paper ball act the same if you throw it at someone, so I did, I hit someone with a stone, but as a kid I didn't understand that was dangerous I just wanted to participate and didn't have paper, some kids squish animals by accident if they're not teach that they are soft gooey creatures in the inside, little kids don't get things, they need attention and they need someone to show them things and to care for the life of living beings, otherwise they just unaware

I am CONVINCED that Belos did in fact say "Caleb" when he saw Flapjack. I've listened to it over and over and that's all I can hear. I'm fairly sure that was meant to be our confirmation to the theory people have had since Any Sport in a Storm that the Wittebro was named Caleb, seeing as Flapjack is the one who gave Hunter that alias when he blanked.
EDIT: Dana just confirmed on Twitter that he did, in fact, say Caleb!
This episode hit *hard,* but I appreciate that Hunter was able to stand up to his abuser and say "you're lying to me" when he tried to manipulate him again. He has backup this time. He has his friends to help him. It meant a lot.
(Also, I'm fairly sure the draining spell didn't manage to claim any lives. Eda's arm, yeah, but it seemed to be stopped before any deaths)
Also... Gus being the first to fall over and sob *broke me.* He's wanted to go to the human realm for *so long,* and the first time he does is tinged with the pain and fear and uncertainty of being locked out of his home, of not knowing the fate of his loved ones, his father... it *hurt.* He's the youngest one. He tries to appear strong, but he's the youngest. They're all kids. And he's *twelve.*
And the final image of the group on Camila's doorstep... Luz trying to smile and act okay... Amity posing in a "proper" manner, reverting back to what she knows is safe in reference to her abuse at the hands of Odalia... Willow trying to appear strong and supportive... Gus just fully not there, broken, silent... and Hunter wrapping his arm around Gus, taking the soldier's role, pushing his own panic and thoughts and grief to the side so he can protect above all else. As awfuk as Belos was, he still raised Hunter. And Hunter (thinks that he) just watched him die.
God, this show, man.

Man we are gonna miss out on so much fun stuff the squad could have done in the human realm, and probably more from the collector. This show deserved a full season 3.
It feels like there will be a very clear push to make a new door (the remnants of this one clearly busted), and as they say 'necessity breeds innovation'
Very possible that Collector could face threat of being stuck in the in-between again, though I suspect a different solution might be found, even if it's unpleasant.
Or to put it another way: Hooty remains the solution to everything. We are playing The Owl House now, and Hotty's been getting played for years.
i’m really sad we missed a full season 3, but dana said that condensing it opened up creative choices that they had never thought of before! so while we all want to be sad, i think we should look to season 3 with excitement and i’m definitely going to enjoy what we‘ll get! i’m using fan content to fill the void of human realm shenanigans that we won’t see canonically :)
I really hope they allow the kids to really feel the impact of the finale. My biggest disappointment with Amphibia was how they (were supposedly forced to?) completely undercut the S2 finale by jumping straight back into wacky shenanigans rather than exploring the effects that experience would have realistically had on the group.
The collector is like literally a child. They get fooled easily, and they don’t understand how cruel they can be. They also get godly powers which is concerning.
I don't think they are a literal child. They are a childlike, god-like, immortal, being. And I think he understands what he's doing at least on a base level, but he just doesn't care. He was playing "tag" with Belos, but he knew he destroyed him. He was laughing about Belos making Grimwalkers, but he knew that Belos made them and then murdered them. He knew Belos plan would kill most of the witches, but was for it so long as he could play. He was sealed away by the Titan for a reason. He's not just some innocent, misguided, kid.

This isn't a child. It's a sadistic god who acts like a child. The only way I can see this ending is with the collector's death, or a deus ex machina.

I’m expecting the characters to find out more about the Wittebros story now that they are in the human realm. It feels pretty confirmed that Flapjack was Caleb Wittibane’s palisman, because he wanted to choose a future that wasn’t witch hunting(much like how we saw Flajjack bond with Hunter after he expressed a wish ti choose his future) The Clawthorne connection perhaps will also be confirmed? I really hope Belos doesn’t mess with Hunter more.
Definitely. In that one scene where Belos sees flapjack he says caleb. I know some people were saying it said kill him, and the captions even say that but it’s been confirmed by Dana I believe to be wrong and he does actually say caleb.
Hunter will probably recognise the symbol of Gravesfield as the Golden Guard sigil.
gus watched belos’s memories of caleb, too, so i’m pretty sure that will come up too!

I really liked how the tenor of the final episode shifted from, "Big boss fight" with Belos to "unfathomable cosmic horror" when the Collector stepped in, and just casually, offhandedly wipes out Belos AND the draining spell, and then demonstrates that everyone is now officially WAY out of their league.
I have no clue how the hell they're supposed to beat this.

Like I know it's supposed to come from their bile sac but remember when Lilith entered the human realm and cast one spell, then tried another and it just poofed? I think they actually rely on the magic of the isles more than they think

It left us at this weird middle ground and I love it. While Luz was working on getting home she didn't necessarily want to stay there. Now she has to deal with having to tell her mom that she has to go back.
Her mom has the opportunity to see some of the bonds she's made and how important this life is to her.
And amity gets to meet Luz's mom and that excites me.

It would be amazing to get a full arc of them on the human realm. The five of them going back to their unhealtly coping mechanisms as a response to trauma (Luz forcing herself to act okay, Willow and Gus being quiet and not speaking up, Hunter acting all tough and not showing weakness, Amity acting proper and distant), Camila and Vee trying to help, Hunter, Willow, Amity and Gus trying to understand more about the human realm, Camila finnally understanding why Luz chose to stay in the Boiling isles and fully making ammends with her, them trying to think of what to do next...
Sadly, i doubt we'll have that, with all that is going down in the Boiling isles and the show not having a full third season. I might write a short fanfic to fulfill my need for more development and angst...

By now it seems almost obvious it must have been Terra who was spying on the CATs. I forget who spotted it, but there was a snapdragon flower over the door of their hideout and the way she behaved in this episode sure sounded like she knew what was up. Also, can we change Belos' name to Emperor Blobby now?
I mean it sounds like he's done with the mantle of Emperor now, and tbh idk how much of him that wanted to be called Phillip again even still exists, soooo
Through the mirror, Gus got to see Belos' memories. He now knows that Belos killed his own brother, and witnessed that alongside all the other people Belos got rid off. This opens way to the possibility of Gus telling everyone the true backstory; to Gus questioning why hunter looks so similar to the dead brother; and to Gus now needing therapy
Holy shit I didn’t even think of this. Could that also be a reason to why Gus breaks down crying.

This was an amazing finale to the show. The reveal of the collector, their child-like nature eradicating everything, King sacrificing himself, The Amphibia connection in the last few scenes, The whole gang going to earth. Amazing show and I wish Disney extends their third season.
well the episodes are 20ish minutes each, but season three is 3, 45 minute episodes so it's like 7 normal episodes, so it's at least half a season without as many cliffhangers
Now I wish they don’t extend it cuz they’ve come this far and if they add 20 more episodes and it’s just chill after this it would just be weird after the day of unity
I’m just saying let this show end in a good way and not an out of place ending

@@amber9605 Not really I mean Amphibia got a full 3rd season and still had the Finale episodes be around 45 minutes long. So it's more than likely that the owl house's third season finale would have been at that length anyway its just that it's now Immediatly following the second seasons finale without another season in between. (17 episodes = 5-6 hours of content now cancelled)

The Collector becoming corporeal, how the music stopped for a couple beats and then synths played accompanying the Collector. How the music is so jarring against everyone else we had until that point. Yikes. Something new.

I hope I'm not the only one who gets sad about how fast the series is advancing and spends it watching the episodes of the first season to return to those moments where everything was calmer and happier.
Bro I rewatch season 1 so! often!! Like, season 2 is so amazing and compelling and heartstopping and emotional, but I love the simplicity and sweetness and fun of season 1; it's what I watch whenever I just want to be comfortable and happy.
Ok 2 Things 1. When Belos/Philip saw Flapjack and said Caleb that means Flapjack was Caleb Palisman and that means Caleb made Flapjack and 2. That was Anne Boonchuy on the iPad.

hey so I think gus saw Belos's memories during that one scene bc I think I recall the illusion head mentioned using that little mirror (?) thing to look at memories??? which means Gus probably saw Belos's memories of murdering his brother and possibly his memories of creating and killing the previous Golden Guards

The thing that wrecked my emotions the most in this episode was the music. The composer, Brad Breeck, has posted all of S2B's soundtrack here to YT; go give the music suite for this episode a listen. When "If We're Gonna Play Owl House..." starts up, you can hear the drums and chords from TJ Hill's theme song. Then the trumpets kick in, and after a few bars you can hear a slow, orchestral version of the theme that's reminiscent of a dirge. It terrified me, and plays into the scene of how the "Owl House" collapses into itself.
The score is brilliant. I mentioned in a different comment but the moment we saw physical Collector, we got a whole synthesiser thing with almost an electronic heartbeat. It's so, so different from every whiff of music before and after that point. Like it didn't belong. Like the Collector does not belong.
SUPER EXCITED FOR WHAT DANA'S GOT PLANNED FOR SEASON 3 AND FOR THE GANG TO PROPERLY MEET CAMILA AND VEE!!! (WHO ALSO EATS MAGIC-?)
When Raine ripped Eda's arm off I made this strangled crying noise and my mom looked over at me like "are you good??" so I paused and said "owl house" and she understood. I came over to her babbling like a baby at the end of the episode too, lmao. Had to take like 20 minutes to collect myself and started crying again when I got to Eda's arm.

The music of the ep was amazing, i loved the collectors theme
I can't stop thinking about how Luz knows the petrification glyph. Will she have to use it?
I wanted there to be Luz and the crew experiencing the mundane wonders of the Human World that is Connecticut, but not like this. I don't know how to feel about The Collector; infinite cosmic power with the whims of a lonely child, there's no malice behind him, but at the same time I don't know if I trust him.
I had some ideas, as someone from Connecticut I can confirm these things are a thing, things the gang could do, I thought about it a while ago, I thought it'd be sweet:
- Going to the Beardsley Zoo; just them in-awe of Earth animals, Willow would find her way to the greenhouse.
- Going to a Bridgeport Sound Tigers game; they go feral because hockey just does that to people
- Going to a Duchess; it's nothing special, it's like a local fast-food chain that also sells like diner food
- Chip's Family Restaurant; Hunter can learn what flapjacks are, there's like a radio jingle, apparently they have the best pancakes around.
- Maritime or Mystic Aquarium; I know Maritime has otters.
- They go to a mall and just amazed at human shopping. They have zero fashion sense when it comes to human clothes and somehow find the tackiest ensembles in like Kohls.
- Go to the Nature Center and play on the wooden playground and learn things about nature and stuff.
- Go to Lake Housatonic or Indian Wells for a day at the lake.
- Sleeping Giant State Park
- Walking around Stop and Shop and taking selfies with the wandering monolith robot.
- Peabody Museum
Also, the details the coven head abilities are amazing, the potion head witch is really clever, because how can you have quick access to make a brew or potion... Just use your mouth, saliva is a common ingredient in potions, Oracle using spirits, and Healing literally using a scalpel ready to make and incision into Eberwolf 😱😱😱

gus & hunter's friendship has become my favorite thing ever
It’s so BEAUTIFUL 🤩! Our boy needs friends more now then ever!
• So The Collector is adorable - their form is so cute and a chaotic neutral (which is a bad antagonist, because they want to play and won’t stop until that goal is met)
• So Eda lost her arm dang rip - at least she doesn’t belong to a coven at least(?)
• Belos made it to the Human Realm after all since the goop attached itself to Hunter before they entered (we never saw an actual defeat) - the credits showed the goop closing the door too, so I think the abandoned home actually belonged to Belos and his brother
• Philips’s brother is Caleb, due to after seeing Flapjack he yelled, “Caleb” (ironic foreshadowing since in “Any Sport in a Storm” Hunter’s alias was *Caleb* - told by Flapjack)
• I hope Camila will take care of the kids while they find a way back home (maybe Vee has some answers)
• All the magic Belos has learned has come from the Collector (arm sling, red eyes, and etc.)
• We love the Amphibia Easter Egg (truly sister shows indeed)
• King what a sacrifice dude (interesting to see what happens between the Collector and him - hopefully King can calm them before they do something crazy)
• There must be a reason that the Titan (King’s dad) put the Collector in a 2-dimensional form (that collar was definitely protecting King)
I will forever be mad at Disney, because the potential this show could’ve gone with a third season, but was cut to basically 6 episodes (if that even what it is) due to not “matching the standards” of Disney is so annoying/heartbreaking…🤬💔🙎🏽♀️
i feel like the thing about the collector is that they're not inherently good or evil. they're a force of pure chaos. they don't have a moral code; they just want to play. they weren't imprisoned because they're evil, they were imprisoned because they're too powerful and too destructive. like a child who's also a god. you just don't like the idea of a child having that kind of power, it has nothing to do with their morality.
i like that; the collector doesn't need to be evil to be a villain. they just need to be stopped because of the harm and destruction they can cause.
your owl house videos (and steven universe and at in the past) have helped with a lot of really intense happenings this year and it’s been really cool to watch someone be as passionate and excited about this cartoon and the comment section as well it’s so delightfully absurd to share opinions and theories and just overall excitement with so many people especially when not many of my irl friends have been introduced to the show (YET!) ahaha anyways thank you bill
100% knew there would be a Coven Leader battle (can't call it Day of Unity with a rebel plot and not do that), but i actually LOVED that they put the combat entirely in the hands of the four unused coven heads of Construction, Healing, Potions and Oracle. Terra and Graye have been seen and used, so this was a great way to do it.

KING WAS SO AFRAID OF BEING SEPARATED FROM LUZ, ONE OF THE VERY FIRST SCENES OF THE SEASON FEATURED HIM LOUDLY PROCLAIMING HE WOULDNT LET LUZ GO AND HE WOULDNT LET HER RETURN TO THE HUMAN REALM WHILE CLINGING TO HER LEG. HE WAS SO SCARED OF THE POSSIBILITY HE’D NEVER SEE HER AGAIN BUT IN THE END HE CHOSE TO STAY BEHIND AND SEND HER AWAY BECAUSE HE WANTED HER TO BE SAFE. I CANT EVEN IMAGINE HOW MUCH THAT MUSTVE HURT HIM GIVEN HOW MUCH HE WAS DREADING HER RETURNING TO THE HUMAN WORLD.

You touched on the meta layers of it, but there's something extra terrifying about how The Collector said they need an Owl House in universe that made me go "What IS an Owl House? Are you going to make a house out of owls or do you actually know of the house itself? Do you even know what it looks like?" The Collector didn't ask for rules or what Owl House the game is despite it being something unfamiliar. I guess it could be The Collector was always around and heard about it through Phillip or when Luz came by in an earlier episode, but I don't know, it gave me the heebie-jeebies like Bill Gravity Falls.
I'm glad the 3rd season is super soon, but I'm not ready. Everything about the pacing of this episode as well as the atmosphere were so on point, and if everything jolting to a stop with Luz standing in that empty doorway hit that hard then what am we going to do with three 45 min episodes of this?

The Collector's Beastball is just hilarious to me.

I love the tonal shift with the Collector, and one of the things I'm most bummed about regarding not getting a proper season 3 is not getting more time with them. I love overpowered child entities with the warped morality and lack of knowledge about consequences because they had never gotten guidance (see: Peter Pan, who in the book committed such atrocities as killing the Lost Boys when they began to grow up). They are sympathetic (I always think about that moment with the Collector with King listening in on them talking about how they will no longer be alone when they are free, and then desperately begging King to stay) but at the same time terrifying because you can't predict just what they'll do, and they don't have any inclination to curb their power. The biggest thing that sticks with me as far as the Collector being a child is this: they truly didn't think Belos would betray them, because he *pinky swore*. To a kid, pinky swears are sacred -- and Belos paid for breaking one.

Dude when I first saw this, I have to admit, I was crying so much. And this is my 7th time watching it and I still tear up. This was such a breathe-taking way to end season 2. I am actually terrified for what's going to happen in Season 3
3 things caught my attention throughout the series.
1. Back in that episode when Hooty tried to help everyone, it seems that the Collector has deeper connections to Eda's owl curse during Eda's dream self-therapy.
2. The Golden Guard insignia on Hunter's hand-sewn cape also appeared in the creepy historian's museum, next to Luz's reflection. I'll be disappointed if that doesn't get addressed or discovered by Hunter.
3. Human garbage regularly transports into the Boiling Isles. I'm pretty hopeful that'll be a plot point. It's been brought up a few times so it's a concrete story element.

so i've been rewatching episodes from season 1 and season 2a - particularly i went back to Knock Knock Knockin' On Hooty's Door, which i know a lot of people remember as the Lumity Officially Dating episode-- BUT during eda's portion of the ep, we see her going through some of her own past memories, and then a memory of the owl beast, of it being CHASED BY THE COLLECTOR, then falling into the ocean and turning into a scroll containing the curse. i'm not sure if the collector turned it into the scroll or not, but i get the feeling that their name comes from them seeking mythical creatures (among other beings) to bend to their will and turn into playthings. that's probably why king's dad sealed them away - to make sure king never became part of the collector's collection. it all reminds me of other villainous child characters; the giant baby from spirited away, molly from pokemon movie 3 spell of the unknown, ect - these young characters that come into way too much power and don't realize how much harm they're inflicting with it when they're trying to use it to cope with their unmet needs. i'm really curious to see how things unfold with the collector- i think a lot of their obsession with control revolves around loneliness; "a child of the stars", but how exactly do stars raise a child? i'm gonna be thinking about this for a While
Hoping that King, if a destined foil for the Collector, learns what it is to be a good ruler. He now has the responsibly to steer an unstoppable force, having spent so long wanting to rule. His learned compassion from Eda and Luz will ground him in whatever path he has to take.
Thank goodness they have Gus and a healthy supply of magic from witches and palisman alike to help vee be able to transform. Those decks are going to run out eventually. This episode gave me major Amphibia True Colors vibes.

Im so mad we won't get a full season 3. So far Ive been able to kind of be positive and just enjoy what we have, but omfg imagine what we could have gotten. all the little moments of Luz and her new witch friends living in the human world we'll never see.
