Pyrite (iron Sulfide) has long been known to be an indicator of Gold and can have Gold associated with it in the host rock but for most people the question has always been - " How do you get the Gold from the Pyrite." In this video we describe what Pyrite is, how to identify it (as compared to Gold) and of course to extract the Gold (if any) from it. Be careful when roasting any Sulfide especially Arsenopyrite as dangerous fumes are released during the process. If you have stories of roasting Gold ore leave them in comments section and smash that Like button. For more video on processing ore to get Gold watch this video. ruclips.net/video/nSegsChkSCY/видео.html

I really enjoy your back catalogue Jeff. You cover all of the good stuff and your high jinks and jaw jackin is good fun too.
Say, you know what, see when your gonna do re runs a wee intro at the start to set the mood. You could tell the when why of it and then fade into the re run. Im sure it would not be too time consuming or annoying. Anyway.
Hope Mrs Jeff and you are doing ok and living the loving life.

Hi again Jeff! I got one of those tables from Rhetta when she was alive. It wasn't an actual miller table but its very similiar. It attaches to a 5 gallon bucket. She said Darren used it all the time out at her claims.
I also got a couple of those graphite conical molds from her. Those are very good ones. Much better than the steel ones although she carried those too. Gawd I wish that woman was still with us
So my mine is like full of sulfides galena and pyrite but I'm saving all the ore that has a good amount of sulfides in it. Good idea?

In my younger days, when I wasn't enlightened, I used mercury to pick up the small gold out of my finish pan. One time I put the mercury in the pan and all the black sand stuck to it. I thought this was strange and took the mercury to an old timer I was friends with. He took one look at it and said "bring me that black sand." The next weekend I brought him the black sand and he smelted it. Got a nice little button out of it. I know mercury is no bueno now, but it sure was an easy way to determine if black sand was worth keeping.

Do you feed your material dry like that still? I was under the impression that it was better to wet your pay prior to feeding it into a Gold Cube?
I found my first piece of quartz with Iron Pyrite while panning for gold here in Arizona so thanks for this video. Definitely looks just like the brassy stuff you’ve got there. I’ll give it the ole hammer smash to see if there’s any gold in there. I don’t have enough material to justify all that extra gear yet, but maybe after collecting a few buckets of the stuff it’ll be a necessity.

So, I got my hands on 5 pounds of MBMM's high grade, and 26 pounds of his run of the mine ore. The high grade had free mill in it, and I'm still working on processing it. (I screwed up my first cupelling attempt, and have to reprocess, but even so, I managed to get exactly 2 grams of gold beads separated so far) For the mine run ore, I've only panned the around six pounds of screened 30 minus so far, and saw no free mill.
However, I've been wondering if I should smelt down the ferrous material I separated from mine run ore, as under the microscope, is a lot of pyrite. (curiously enough, very little ferrous material was pulled from the high grade ore, and what there was, barely had any signs of pyrite)
The Mighty Mill showed up today, and I'm in the process of crushing down the rest of the mine run ore!

So Jeff, ive known about pyrites carrying values for decades. Ive never understood them to be free milling? I always understood they required roasting to release if not aditional chemistry to leach. Costing more to proccess than the gold value with the older technologies but now we can profit from it.
    A. What's the possibility of the free gold coming from your equipment residual from previoys high grade runs?
    B. What's changed to make pyrites value recovery profitable? [I mean, the capitol to crush roast n smelt is key difference along with efficient furnace, is that all ? Or do we better understand tge metalurgy/chemistry better as well?
Im currently building an electrolitic cell for .9999 refining and offering custum refining out of utah as small startup [heirlooms to bullion and small batch high grade]

Jeff, you truly are the best. However, in this case I see several errors. First and foremost is not covering what happens when you break down the sulphides.
When you break those down you are also breaking the bond with other elements present. And when you add water, it's not exactly like a zoo, but there is so much that happens. In this, the water ideally should be distilled. Gold can escape by attaching to the chlorine in the water (if tap water). This may not be much, but it's still YOUR gold! And it escapes as gold chloride. Then the other minerals, no matter how minuscule, present also break down with the water. Rule of thumb is the more massive, i.e. lacking crystalline structure, the most "impurities" in the pyrite. This can be a lot! Name any of the metals that bond with sulphur and you *could* have present in the pyrite. And that gets into the water. And that is one of the other problems.
What is being done with the wastewater from this? Yeah, I know. The amount YOU produced is minimal. But...human nature kicks in. If they, our fellow prospectors, can get more ore, you bet they're gonna get it and process it! And...you get more wastewater. No longer 1 or 2 gallons, but 5 gallons. Then 10. And it goes up. Ya gotta process the water before disposing of it. Ideally you want to test it to make sure you're getting the crud to drop out. Like molybdenum, zinc, vanadium, lead, iron, copper, amongst others.
In small amounts like you process Jeff, I see no problem. But as I said, opportunity and prospectors a dangerous pair! You know, like Bonnie & Clyde, Thelma & Louise, Butch Cassidy & Sundance Kid, you and Slim...oppps!

I’d been so excited to become one of your premium patrons up until I saw your gold giveaways weren’t some kinda drawings instead they are a guessing game a snowball would have a better chance surviving in hell than I would in a game guessing how much gold there is in a picture of gold oh well you can’t win em all I’m still proud to be able to contribute to Jeff’s mining in his drift mine.

Why separate silicates and calcites out when they are useful in the flux, and contain their own gold? Why separate the free mill when is useful as its own reducer/collector?

You just need to find some of the gold tellerides (Au..Te..) that were mistaken for pyrite by the old timers...

    • @sixfigureskibum

I wish I knew about telluride when I was living in Mesa Verde I would head east on my days off and explore national forests looking for old mines places to ski and shoot trap. I found mines with telluride all 9ver the surface float below the dumps. I knew it was terrilum / telluride but had no knowledge of its real values or means of extraction. Been wondering lately if I could find those places again 25 years later.. and then realize I got my 4x4 3/4 ton 3:11 gear truck stuck in snow drifts and was in top wild fire fighter shape back then 😂😂😂😂 maybe I could make a treasure map though 😮😊 . Google earth wasn't a thing back then. All paper usgs topos.
