Nocturnal, well it really was not that long ago, when U2 launched their "Joshua Tree" album that included this classic, performed beautifully by Sarah. Having said that, I understand the nostalgia for far away yesterday's when life seemed much more lovely with endless possibilities.
@@deanmitchell9568I have been a devout fan of Sarah's from the beginning of her career... If you enjoyed her U2 cover, you'll likewise enjoy her original music, I'm sure!.. Here's a link to most of her cover work: secondhandsongs.com/artist/46838/covers Astonishingly, each of her covers seem to me, a necessary and intended addendum to the original...Perhaps my Jarosz fandom gushes a bit too much, but she is musical perfection to me :)
Agreed. I still hold her cover(s) of Paul Simon's "Kathy's Song" as one of the most amazing covers I have ever heard in any genre. And there are a number of other examples including this one. I think part of it is that she only seems to cover songs she loves and feels deeply in her heart, and thus wants to make sure she treats them as they deserve.
I love U2, and I typically cannot stand when their stuff is covered. But this is different. This version gives me the same goosebumps as the original. Absolutely beautiful! Thank you Sarah!
I hate to be the downer but I have to comment that the woman sounds as if she can't sing good. Maybe she can rap but this version is terrible. Maybe she just need practice but she sounds off key for the song she is singing. I understand that some people can't sing like me for example, I can't hit the high notes of a song but I have good rhythm. So I had to dislike this version.
We have a new contestant!!! Putri Ariani just sang this song on Americas Got Talent and advanced to the finals for the whole competition. It's was a masterful performance

2020 has been a shitshow and I'm more stressed than ever. My fiance and I are going through our own issues. But hearing this just evaporated a great weight off of my shoulders and my mind. I want to listen to this on repeat forever. Thank you Sarah, you are a Goddamn national treasure.
I'm by no means a "U2 fan", but I've always appreciated that song. I honestly never imagined it so sweet and vulnerable... Almost fragile in its beauty, but so incredibly powerful in the delivery of the "triumphant" parts. The balance of strength and weakness in the lyrics was conveyed PERFECTLY with that beautiful voice. I went in expecting another ill conceived cover and quite literally couldn't look away. I don't think that song could be done any better by anyone else. Period!
If you think this is better than U2 you are obviously not a fan of U2. The original version is an amazing multi-layered pitch-perfect masterpiece. This one is very good, but it's a completely different song which can't possibly be compared to the original. Apples and oranges.
@@RickDeckardMemories What would be the sense of comparing, when any artist covers a song ultimately they are paying homage to the original artist. Sarah is a beautiful singer and amazing instrumentalist who possesses and old souls love of music. I prefer Sarah's cover based on the fact that she is probably my favorite artist making music today and although I am a fan, I wouldn't list U2 in that same category for me personally. My guess is that they are probably among Sarah's favorites though and that's all that matters. And your description of the original as multi layered is spot on, it's what makes it such a dynamic song.

For the first time in my (rather longish now) life, the lyrics of this song were brought right to the front by Sarah. These covers are such a brilliantly refreshing change each week. Indeed, as others have said below, Sarah's music continues to bring light and hope into the grey (and smokey!) times of Covid. Where there is excellence in music like this, there is hope for tomorrow!
I’m 66 years old and I’ve seen a lot of great musicians in my life. Except for this one. Sarah is truly one of the finest singer / songwriters I’ve ever heard. Praying for a tour to roll my way sometime soon.
If you see a tour coming, jump on it! I had the extreme pleasure of seeing Ms. J at a small but acoustically perfect concert hall that had been built for speeches after the Civil War. She and 2 other players filled that hall with sound, and it was special.
I love how you pay tribute to the Edge"s guitar playing in your octave mandolin part, while at the same time, playing something that is completely new and creative! This is great. Your playing and your voice are so beautiful!!!
